Francois (Franna) Van Zyl, is widely respected in the world of Rock & Surf fishing and the Reel Africa team spent a few days in his home waters and learned some tricks on how to target Musselcracker
Here in the US we have a very similar species called Tautog. Ours don't grow to 70 lbs....maybe 24 for a monster. Most are 3 to 12 lbs. They eat most any crucetacean. A ten pounder will strip a reel from under a LOCKED thumb on a conventional stick. We use 40 lb running line, 80 lb mono leaders with heavy wire octopus style hooks and just enough weight to get it on the bottom.
Hi.franca what area was that.and which is the best time of year to fish for musselcracker.thank you from mosselbay.any tips where to try for it here in mbay
