Fishing For Rudd & WHAT Were those Dark Shadows? (Video 190)

You join me for a late evening to early morning trip during the Euro football championships as I headed out to investigate a new lake in hope of maybe finding some large Rudd and perhaps trying to find out what those larger dark shadows were? Bream? Tench? Only one way to find out!

What an enchanting place....It's hard to get through to the larger rudd very often...I tend to sight fish them....

good to see you back with a great new episode Mark. Those Tench looked positively pre-historic, really old buggers. Rudd are my favourite species although I don't fish for them much these days, I spent most of my childhood trying to get the biggest in the easily visible shoals of surface feeding Rudd to take my bread, grasshoppers and chrysalids. I've caught my biggest Rudd out here in France while fishing on the surface for carp, two 3 1/2 pounders on different days, I thought that they were small carp until I got them in the net. I've never known Rudd to fight quite so hard. A 2lb Rudd is a reasonably common size and they are just so picture perfect with their red fins and their golden/silver scales, I love catching them, thanks Mark, look forward to the next episode.

That's a good fish and some mate, I have witness my father land rudd to that size but not had them myself. This particular lake has got some large Rudd but it's getting through the smaller ones that makes it a bit tricky at times, I do think a mini boilie approach would be better suited.

What a delightful little lake Mark, I think the Rudd either large or small is a stunning fish to look at. Those 3 tench were rather splendid as well and certainly had an age and look In keeping with the lake, well done Mark 👍 take care and tight lines 😎

Thank you Andrew it is a delightful water and relatively unknown to at least me. I have seen some large rudd but getting through the smaller ones is tricky, but no less than enjoyable.

Nice trio of Tinca's Mark! I had one mini trip in the Summer, a tiny weedy farm pond. Took my 5# fly rod & reel with a black foam bug on a size 14 hook and 1.7lb tippet. Caught loads of mini Rudd off the top. All smaller than the smallest that you caught but great fun :)

Nice 1 Mark, tbh I’ve not fished a Stillwater for probably getting on for a couple of years now.. I noticed the fishing wheels 🚲 in the background... love it ❤️.... as a non driver myself I can honestly say the bike has put me into places and positions that I wouldn’t of been able to be in without it really... Good water craft and presentation as always buddy... what’s next ... & when...? Haha.... speak soon 👍🏼

Some big macho boy told me I couldn't be a 'real' man if I didn't like football! He'd gotten it totally wrong, it isn't that I don't like football, it's actually because I detest football and all the hype that goes with it! Give me fishing anytime! Nice little place you've found there Mark, I have permission for a similar lake our club uses, but as it belongs to a large retirement complex, we can only fish dawn to dusk, but we've had a few good days and that's what counts!

Great video! I think rudd are one of the best looking fish. I do best catching them at sunset, for some reason they generally start biting just as the sun goes down.

Thank you and I do agree I also have found on other waters that it can be easier to get through to the larger rudd after sunset, buit unfortunately not this time.

Hey buddy, how ya doing? I guess we are both missing our Dad's. Fishing just ain't the same now. Even though Dad didn't come with me as much near the end, but he was always the first person I would go to and talk about the days endeavors. RIP all fishing Dads, we miss u TERRIBLY. David I totally understand, it isn't easy and some days are very hard, my last phone call with my father the other weekend was one of abuse from him and confusion. His care unit has covid19 again..

@@francolinobasco I know mate, I cared for my Dad with Alzheimers & cancers for 4 years!!! Man it was hard. He went to a home for the last few weeks of his life and I visited him from behind a screen and only got to touch, hug & kiss him after his death which really hurt. I know its really hard fella but the man u speak to now is still that man we all saw how much you loved & respected. And it was also obvious how proud he was of you. The way he acts now & the things he says is only flashes through his brain and obviously not how he feels down to his boots. Just be there for him and let him know u love him and do your best to ignore the flashes. Fishing is quite hard for me at the moment as I suspect it is for you too for the same reasons. But I believe that in time, fishing will remind us of the great times we had with our fathers on the Bank. And not just remind us of how much we miss them. But it will obviously take time. My thoughts are honestly & truly with u & Dad. Make sure u take care of yourself mate. Chin up. Your friend, Dave.....
