First. Monster sunfish! Love the underwater releases. Thumbs up to the sunset, it’s Arizona after all.

Back in the 70's I caught a 4 1/2 lb bluegill at Lakewood County Club golf coarse in Lakewood, California. The water ways were loaded with huge bass as well. Thats where I spent my weekends. Great memories

Salut, Whoa! Those sunfish are amazing! We have many different and beautiful sunfish here in Indiana creeks and streams known as the "Pumpkinseed", 40 years ago one might catch them bigger than your hand with fingers spread out.... not so nowadays.... one is to be considered lucky to even catch one over 6 oz, a mere 1/3 the size they used to reach. I had another secret fishing hole, an old farm pond, the sunfish that came from the deeps were always over a pound and more.... but it was their singular beauty that brought me back; the main colours were the darkest silver which overlay jet black, and those atop a pinkish and metallic purple, blue jawed and oranges sides.... and for a forehead each had a bulge of meat between the eyes and upper spines. For me, the "Rockbass" are the true kings of the creeks in Central Indiana. I love small, cold water fishes! They are all absolute beauties and fun to catch!! Cheers and Blessings! Fishing for big sunfish with ultralight tackle is the best! We live by a private lake that's not overfished and I've pulled some biggies out of there. So much fun!

I live in Lake Havasu and this dock is by far my favorite! caught a 14 pound channel cat there months back. great fishing!

Lake Havasu! Use to fish there as a kid, when I lived in Southern California! Monster Blue catfish can be found there at the dam. Very nice fish!

I’ve fished for these guys in California Bay at Havasu. They say they get this big feasting on Quagga mussels. They’re a blast to catch!

Awesome sunfish video Back here they are thick but not that size. First time I have seen them that thick in our neck of the woods. You need to get out to your favorite spot back here and see how big they are

About 25 years ago I caught a 2lb 10oz red ear in southern California. The poor thing swallowed the hook deep! I was trout fishing in March and caught it on an inflated nightcrawler. It tied the lake record and that was the first bluegill I ever ate. Unfortunately it was the last one I have eaten. I would have been keeping those years ago if I knew they were so tasty! Looks like fun in Havasu though, can't wait to see what you catch next!

I just saw a picture of a 6.3 pound red ear that came out of that lake a couple days ago. I had to laugh a little at the beginning of your video when you said where your at. I wish you luck on the search for a 5 pound red ear.

Those are incredible specimens, but if bigger ones are to be found, I will wager you will get amongst them soon. . . Tight lines.

Those redears at Havasu are amazing! I've always wanted to go down there but it's a long haul from Denver. They would be a blast on a fly rod too. You're getting me psyched up man, in about 5 hours a lake here in Colorado opens to boating, ice is finally off. It has huge trout, good pike too. Heading out soon. Thanks as always and take care.

Have your friend take you to ski beach. Huge blue gill way in the back of the cove or black meadows across from ski beach. There is an island w/big blue gill. Also the dam produces good fish. The bass use to be giants.

If u are that close to coast again, u should try the Barred Surf Perch from the beach. They get that big {10-16"} and THICK, fight like hell, school can catch a lot, and are really aggressive plus good eating. Those, halibut and the desert was the only thing that kept me from losing my mind while working in CA for years!

I catch the biggest shellcrackers where I fish. And 12 to 14 inches are as big as I can manage to catch they just don't have the girth. You always fish the good places..great video.

Amazing sunfish! I caught some nice Redears underneath the London Bridge in town from the walkway just outside my hotel. Then I was chased off by some local dude. There are no "No Fishing" signs, but was told by him that it was illegal.

Those are some crazy huge sunfish. Damn and to think just the day after this video was filmed on that same lake a new world record red ear was caught weighing 6.2 lbs unbelievable. Great video man👍

July fourth 2015 my brother and I were at the same spot. We caught at least 200 bluegill from 1 to 3 pounds, it was slam fest. I was there at the end of March 2021and caught a couple small jaw bedding in the timber. The winds picked up and the fishing was over. Nice job😎😎😎

If you are going to fish from piers or fish a spillway from above where the water is far below you, a net supported by four lines that join a main line allows you to retrieve and release your catch without difficulty.

Nice. In my area I only hope to catch a 2-3 pound bass, let alone a 2 pound sunfish. There is one small lake in the area that isn’t fished that often and I caught a 1.5 pound sunfish. Another amazing video.

Those are some good ones..I have only ever caught 1 over 2lbs. And that was 20 years ago..I did have one bigger break 10lb mono in open water on a 33 in the same pond about 5 years later it was bigger than the other one. I'm pretty sure I cried. Lol..I thought it was a bass coming up on the bed in about 3ft of water until I turned it..
