We use 3/0 or 4/0 short shank live bait hooks for sheep. hooks behind the teeth.

Mud crabs are our best bait over here on the gulf coast. Just picked 2 dozen.

What size shot? What do you use? Is it better to catch them on an incoming outgoing or slack tide?

I grew up fishing the Southern Louisiana/Texas Coasts & the swamps/marsh estuaries..... Sheepshead & Hard-Head Cat's were always picking the shrimp off our hooks but people like them b/c they taste like Crabs. There's been coverage about the Crab Industry packing Sheepshead into their product since the fish is so much cheaper = Profits >> So it goes. Most of them we caught were about 1lb or less.... you hit a nice vein of them. peace

The "GIANT" managed to use more bait than all the others combined... lol, dumped out you bait & where do you get the Sand Fleas? I guess the sand but I've never seen them for sale? Merry New Year

I caught them at the beach. The bait shops often sell them in my area. I suggest Black Dog Bait & Tackle for fleas over here.

Ahh, thanks for that. Next time I'll know! Sheepshead are such a quick "peck" of the bait & it's gone. I did notice the current running thru that cut - pretty fast & all you did was lay the bait right near the edge of the current or ya already knew there was a hole right there? They were nice sized compared to what we used to catch. peace

Finally...how long ago? Couple of years since you apload video with them? Nice, I love this fish. For its strength and taste. Used to have them in Mediterranean sea, never saw one though. Now we got only the ones you call exotic (its cousin) and if we are lucky we catch 2-3 pounders!!!
