Fishing in Miami - 3 locations in Miami - MONSTER fish in a THUNDERSTORM | The Fish Locker

Fishing from the shore near our holiday property in Marathon in the Florida Keys. Using the skills and lessons I had learned in previous fishing sessions and using the baits I had caught fishing from The Florida Keys Bridges I catch some incredible sharks and fish. I also managed to catch, tag and release a lovely Nurse shark. The tags I use are to help NOAA track shark populations, growth rates and migration routes. All important clues for building a better understanding of these incredible creatures.
Here are links to some of the fishing tackle I used in this video. I hope it helps.

That first fish you caught is called a cow fish, and is related to boxfish, puffer fish, and trigger fish.

A good option I have always held - when fishing and catching. When you return a fish to the water, then get them a bait meal down their gullet - for their pain and travail - which is really what they wanted in the first place - a good meal. They then swim away with a full stomach - and metabolize that during their pain and wound recovery. This makes them (and our Pacific NW sturgeon and trout ) that much more catchable in the future when they grow up.

I caught a rainbow trout with 3 hooks in its mouth.. It was undersize , and I was at least the 4th person to catch it.. I removed the hooks , threw it back & moved down stream. 10 minutes later I caught it Again ! I think this fish knew it would get a meal even if he got caught... Craziest thing Ever.

I haven't finished the video yet but I'm so happy that you've come to our shores to vacation and fish. It distresses me however, that we have gained a reputation for being an unsafe place to visit. I wish you didn't feel that way, but I understand your feelings. Unfortunately, our reputation around the world has been tarnished because of the gun violence that is reported with so much sensationalism. Your comments about being fearful of your daughter and wife walking around at night made me sad. Also, the irrational statement by the Fish and Wildlife officer that you might be injured on the small "pier" that you were fishing from. Your concern that he had a gun also made me angry and sad that you were made to feel that way. I wish you and your family well and despite it all, hope your visit was an enjoyable one. By the way, you have one of the most enjoyable channels on RU-vid!
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 2 года назад
It wasn’t by reputation, the first day walking down the street I realised what the place was like. I have travelled to and served in some pretty bad places and miamis south beach has the potential to be violent and dangerous to women on their own. It didn’t stop us enjoying our time there. We just behaved accordingly.

@@TheFishLocker Good job. I'd be scared to death in a pasture full of cattle - I'd have no way of knowing how to read them, and no way to know how to stay out of danger. People are no different - you can get into trouble is you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. On the other hand, I live a few hundred yards from a big city, and I feel perfectly safe here. Most trouble is local, but outsiders have to be on the safe side.
@chickenfishhybrid44

While much worse with gun violence than most places, the way it's portrayed and the way people perceive it is rarely in line with reality. Being worried about random gun violence in the US is about as rational as worrying about being struck by lightning.

I was fighting a barracuda and tripped over my tackle box and all my tackle and lures went deep between the rocks. Completely unreachable lol. The mangrove snappers are spawning July-August which they do off shore. They will be coming into shore as soon as the weather cools down in proper numbers. They are the most consistent fish to catch near shore. I live one hour north of you in Coral Springs in North Broward county. We have a couple of piers but like I said not much of a variety in salt water at this time of year. What I have here in the fresh water is snake heads, knife clown fish, peacock bass, tilapia, mayan chiclids which all are biting this time of year. These all can be caught in the middle of the day even though it is hot.

Fishing isn't more regulated than owning a firearm in Florida, or any other State for that matter. You don't have to pass a federal background check to buy a fishing license in Florida. You do to own a firearm. You can have a felony or a domestic violence conviction on your record and still fish legally, but you cannot legally even posses, much less own, a firearm . Also, for what its worth, fishing off a pier isn't a right specifically named in the U.S. Constitution.

Hello again my friend. Nice Nurse ya got. Maybe one day in the future you can be up around my neck of the woods so I can show you some fishing spots and techniques I've used and showed hundreds of people how to use over the last 40 years. That is if I'm not on a charter.LOL. SO many good inland fishing spots for huge fish that people just don't take advantage of...or know of. CHEERS

Hey John, I'm sure some has already commented, I haven't read all the comments, but from experience that "horny*" fish is a Scrawled Cow Fish. It seems you and the family had a wonderful time away, look forward to seeing you fishing in the UK again. Thanks for the weekend entertainment. 😊 All the best.

You get time,maybe next time your in Florida ,they surf fish in spots along the east coast,I was up by New Smyrna beach,late February one year and I went to the Canaveral National Sea Shore and people were on the beach surf fishing,catching pompano, it looked like fun, and the national park service had classes on how to surf fish, but I was leaving the next day. I don’t think I’d like summer in Florida,but the one time I was there it was winter and coming from Wisconsin in February with the snow up to your knees and below zero temperatures (Fahrenheit) it was really nice.

Few miles north of Miami on the East coast Ft. Pearce jetty goes way out in the inlet. Fishing is viciously good out there at night. No lights at night. Also Walton-Rocks dog beach just south of there. The Cornish accent is great, although I'm 200 years removed it seems to ring in my genes...lol

Yeah...Miami is a very... _colorful_ city. Shares a bit in common with Chicago like that, just with a lot less history. It's kind of like death-metal in a way? If you enjoy it, you LOVE it, but if you don't, then you can't stand it for more than a minute at a stretch. Almost no middle ground there to be had. And that first catch of yours was a Scrawled Cowfish; cousin of the boxfish and more distant cousin to the pufferfish. Edible, delicious and not at all threatened by humanity, but can be poisonous if not prepared properly.

Good luck mate hope it works out for you and you get the job. Just a heads up, Cornwall is heaven in the summer, but the winters can be very quiet and a bit ghost townish. My mate opened up a tea and cake shop in Falmouth and said the winters Cornwall has a totally different atmosphere. And the pace of life can be quite frustrating at times, especially if your used too the competitive culture of city life. My mates boiler broke down last winter, now coming from Birmingham you would easily get a heating engineer out the same day, if not the next. He quickest he could get a heating contractor out was 4 days. In Cornwall that’s considered normal.

You may try to do some inshore fishing at one of the local parks. If you can catch some live bait try around natural and man made structure for Snook and Jacks also snapper. You want to use little to no weight depending on current but free lining is the best cast underneath a bridge or dock feeling you line and the bait. The most weight you'd want is a medium split shot. I love your spirit I wouldn't have had such a calm reaction I think they were messing with you. There is also a public fishing pier North of you I think there is a fee but, the fishing can be good and you can sabiki live bait.
