I agree and have always thought that since largemouth see better in low light, they feed well the first couple days. Then they pull back and rest. That’s of course a guess but makes sense to me.

This is next level stuff Randy! I look at the forecast and circle cloudy days to go fishing. I had no idea that several days of cloudiness will send them deep or to the bottom. I love to throw the jerkbait so, I look for windy and cloudy days. This explains why days like that produce different results. Good stuff!

Randy, your knowledge amazes me. That's knowledge only someone who has spent years on the water comes to know. I fished the hobie bass open on pickwick in september. During practice, that hurricane system from LA came through. Day1 of tourney, people were catching them fairly normal and in very shallow grass like 1-3ft. On day 2 of the tournament (the 3rd full day of cloud cover and rain) you can watch the videos of the 1st and second place finishers. They start out same areas and nothing is happening. They both make adjustments, one starts finding them on electronics same general area but much deeper--uses ned rigs and finesse jigs to catch them. The winner finds his previously shallow fish out a lil further in about 8 ft of water, on bottom and on grass lines--- uses a t-rig senko to start catching them where they were on more of a moving bait bite shallow the day before. So I mean what you are saying is SPOT ON with what I just personally witnessed.

@Moses Kongl It's all good. sometimes hard to tell someone's reaction by reading it. but yes look it up, that's why it's good to fish right before a storm. it plays a big role but don't hear much about it. that's why I asked Randy to do a vid on it, him being a pro for many years I am Sure he knows this

100% correct I used to believe every time it was cloudy or you know a little nasty outside you pick up some reaction baits and you're going to go get them not true. I found that if you've had cloud cover for more than 3 days 2 or 3 days they get real lethargic and set on the bottom especially largemouth it doesn't seem to affect the spotted bass in my leg as much but large mouth for certain and big fish for certain.

I always tell people that fish are still living beings. They don't like extreme Temps and find comfort. A few days of clouds I would assume they would relax until weather clears the same way people don't typically enjoy outdoor activities in weather.

I don't think color will matter. For very much. When you're working. In this weather condition.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 3 года назад
What I'd say. Looking at it. From the point of view. Of a bait designer. As opposed to an angler in professional competition. If you go to the extreme ends. Of the color spectrum. Black on one end. And white on the other.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 3 года назад
And what you might find. Will happen. Is that you have to go. Up a size or two. On your dark colored baits. The opposite. On the white colored ones.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 3 года назад
What you've got there. Is a water surface condition. A sky and cloud condition. And a water clarity condition. And time of year. Where there is an awful lot. Of diffuse light. Bouncing around from all angles. All over the place. And while there is diffuse light. Bouncing around all over the place. None of it. Is direct enough. In it's intensity. To help you out. Very much from a color point of view. Not like in spring time. For example. Where the sun might break out between periods of heavy cloud color. And illuminate the entire. Underwater universe. That the bass fish. Is hunting in. In these conditions. The fish will become accustomed. To looking at overall profiles. And hunting after the bait profile. And less. The color subtlety. Of sunlight that filters down. Through the lake surface. To the world underneath.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 3 года назад
Almost black. Or almost white. Could be the best tools to use. For this situation. The subtle thing. With a white color. Is that in the eyes of the fish. It can appear to be. Closer and several sizes larger. Than the bait actually is. So smaller white baits. Even though they look ridiculously small. Might turn out. To look right in the water. Conversely. With these diffuse light conditions. A black colored bait. Might need to be over sized. It might appear. Smaller than it actually is. To the fish. And you may find. That you have to use something. That looks too large. To human eyes. But may appear right. In the water.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 3 года назад
From a practical point of view. The type of system. That will present a small white bait. To the fish. With enough movement and action. Is completely different. To the system. That one can throw. To put a larger 'ink' black colored bait. Out there. And have it. Work with the same cadence or action. Changing the size of baits. Does make them swim differently. In the water. It's a lot harder. To get something out in a cast. That is smaller in size. To achieve the depths that are required. And have any action to it. Than it is. Throwing a larger darker colored lure. Where one has lots more options. To select from. I would be inclined. To have something. That represents. Those opposite ends of the spectrum. In the boat. Where if the light did get. A little bit darker. I'd go with something darker and oversized. Or if the sun came out. A small bit. I'd change to lighter in color. And under sized perhaps.
