Fishing Rio Vista Dock Sacramento River Striper Run! 

Jay, thanks for the info! In all honesty I had gathered the same. We had just got a late start on the Striper run but had a desire to hit Rio Vista again it had been a good 6+ months. Think we tossed some Sardines also on this trip, and we JUST returned there (video will be up in a few days) the 2nd trip we were out of Sardines, still caught a bit larger one than these. The live bait thing is tough for me. I'm not into causing pain/suffering to fish/animals. Thou I've tossed a FEW live Bluegills out. Pains me each time. Alas we'll try again sometime... of Live bait's we have tried Mudsuckers, Pile Worms, Blood Worms, Grass Shrimp, Bluegill. Only things that got bite were Pile Worms & Grass Shrimp. Alas most of those bait's we've only tried 2-4 times. Mainly using Anchovies & Lures. Ironic, Lea wanted me to keep/cast the Pike we caught out. Alas see mentioned it as I was already releasing it. Hey JU!!! How you been boss? It kind of was... the day was just 74 with part cloud cover and the winds just 4-6mph. Finally got a recent trip with good bites (roughly 35 bites).... also sweet to see a Striper again, been some time since we fished them. Hope all is good with you & family JU! Ken & Lea

Haha funny thing is... I didn't even think of that. All good I just kept playing finger dodging while trying to hook it heh. Got few on kind of draped & balled up. While others threaded through most the body. Side note... both the Worms & Anchovies got similar action!

Funny thing is boss, did you notice when I had tossed it back Lea had said something and I turned to look. Tad bit annoyed. Lea had said as I was already tossing it back "lets use it for bait". Reason we didn't, I was uncertain as to the type of fish. Thou it did look like a "bait fish", which I think are all legal to use as Live Bait. So didn't care to risk being wrong. Thou I have called DFG directly to ask about using Live Bluegill as bait in Cali. They said, yes it's perfectly fine. Just don't "Transporting Live Fish". I'm sure you've heard also that Golden Shiners also work well. Tried Mudsuckers in the past, didn't get any bites thou. We hope you enjoyed the video(s)..... Ken & Lea

Oh did you see when we pulled it up? Naaa nothing. Odd as in the past we've had Crawfish actually hanging on to our Anchovies & Worms as we reeled in (not commonly thou).... Funny thing is my man, the bites were there! I'd guess we had 28-35 bites. Many times was 1-2 bites then they stop. So had to be on the alert! Think few of our baits may have been hanging a tad too much off hook. Been some time since we hit up Striper, so was nice to pull of those few! Few more Striper videos coming up, we JUST finished a trip (need to edit now) and hitting a new spot Friday! Tight lines brother... hope you enjoyed the video! Ken & Lea

Thanks boss to be sure! So safe to use them as live bait? They do seem to be a "bait fish". Right on for filling in that gap! Haha yeah... but still feeling it.

Yes they call those striper candy, use the same setup you have . Don’t have to throw it too far cause they’re heavy

I never knew otherwise... figured was always everyone having a certain amount of curtesy and making space for one another. But... we've had DFG show up 3 times since we fished there. Once actually chatting with us. Also local business owner at times chatted. Locals, and often see fishermen (and boats) using it. Plus we were sure to check all signs 1st time we fished it. Seen nothing on the subject. There is a boat dock time limit and no swimming from it sign. On a side note we do hope you enjoyed the vid(s)....

@@raidertwuan This is Rio Vista. They have the dock here as well as a Pier about 1 mile from there. If you find the Rio Vista City Hall. Park in front of it. You'll see the entrance to the dock near there. While the Pier is VERY close to that large bridge which I think is highway 12. Hope that helps and hope you're enjoying the videos!

Heard the term "Squawfish" before long ago. Surely heard of Northern Pikeminnow. Then I'm wondering... do you know is a Sacramento Pike & Northern Pikeminnow one in the same? Yeah didn't care for holding those Pile Worms. Sadly I didn't record one hook baiting where the worm tried at least 12 times to bite me. Sweet thanks for the note on the Pike, I THINK that was my guess. But was only a guess. Which type of worms David? Yeah what do they call those "flashes" again? Think they call some Orbs while this cigar looking one perhaps "probs". I'm not much into believing all that. BUT.... I can't explain it. Not connected to anything, no sign of it being a bird or insect. It went with the wind, then against it. It was fast.

@@davidgarcia9808 Nice the good old go to bait. Nightcrawlers! I think that's one of the best ideas so far. Sun hitting particals. But if I may David, please correct me if I'm wrong. But would not most particles (since they'd have mass) be moved along the current of the wind? Yet it darted back and forth ever briefly. I want to make sense of it boss... I'm not into Ghosts, Spirits, Aliens (just not visiting our planet) and so on.... but I can't logically explain it. Can't be smoke, I see no insect or bird body, it maintains it's shape, moves rapidly, and against the wind! Also thought a "Glare" but the Camera was on a Tripod. No shinning objects were nearby moving. It's a stumper... wonder if it by some way could have been Sunlight...

Ummm thou honestly feeling Light Reflection maybe the best we can all come up with. One thing for sure. It is something. Wish we knew it's distance from Camera. Would answer a lot. (ok I'm shutting up on the subject, don't want to dull the fishing heh). Hope others see that end part. Side note it was AWESOME to see the guy some up with a Stick & Line fishing. Oddly I've always wanted to try that... but in like a natural river. Not the Sacramento River heh
