Fishing Rod Challenge! Ugly Stik GX2 VS. BIG Sharks
This video was inspired by Catfish and Carp - Fishing rod challenge! Can I break an Ugly Stik GX2?! • Fishing rod challenge!...
In his video he attempted to break a Ugly Stik GX2 by lifting heavy objects including his son in a go cart and his boat trailer. Being that fish are more than just dead weight, I wanted to do the same test but against fish. Big fish. Really big fish. So my fish of choice is the Shark.
I figured I would start with a small shark (Nurse Shark or Bonnet Head Shark). If it survived that, then move up to a shark that was in the 3' to 6' range. After that, it was a matter of getting something big enough to break that rod regardless of size.
Well the day was successful as I was able to check off the small size by picking up a nice 3' Nurse Shark. After that a 7' Lemon took the bait and after a twenty minute fight, I was able to wrangle him in with no damage to the Ugly Stik GX2.
All of this was accomplished with the stock combo rod and reel. The only addition being some 20lb Berkley Big Game Mono and a foot of 38lb single strand wire and a 7/0 circle hook. A chunk of fresh caught Jack Cravelle rounded out the rig.
For the next part of the challenge, I will be looking for something in the 8' plus range or bigger that will break that Ugly Stik GX2....or not.
