In this episode of Texas Fishing Travels, I head down to the very deep part of South Texas. Brownsville, Texas to be exact. Others might call this area the Rio Grande Valley or for short "RGV".
This entire area consists of South Padre Island, Port Isabel, Brownsville and McAllen. Such a unique area to visit when you get the chance.
I wanted to target snook and redfish in the beautiful waters of the Laguna Madre. There was one particular bay I've always wanted to fish and that bay is called South Bay. The water was so crystal clear and this is one of the only places on the entire Texas Coast that has mangroves like you see in Florida.
My goal was to show you how beautiful this entire coast line is and what you might expect if you travel down to South Texas to do some exploration and fishing from your kayak.

RX Angler in my backyard?! Bad ass! Im from Brownsville and fish South bay area a lot, wait for the temperatures to go up and when the water starts to warm up South Bay is money for snook. welcome to our home that is also your home deep south texas bay . ive had luck with catching snook behind the convention center by a marsh. i normally camp at the RV park there where you were standing by the booth. and dirty ALs is a really good place for fresh food. and oysters

The mangroves along the edge of Mexaquita Flats usually hold some decent fish. South Bay usually has smaller fish along the perimeter and the larger reds are closer to the channels and mouth. Tight lines.

Good stuff, Nick and Alec! My parents live in Port Isabel, so I always enjoy seeing that clear water. My dad has a Flats Cat, so we usually take it out to wade the bars in the LLM, but I'm going to try to squeeze in some yak fishing while I'm down there in a few weeks. BTW, my dad has the state record catch-and-release Snook that he caught from down there many years ago. I've never caught one, though. Looking forward to part 2!

Great video production nice fish being caught on the Kayak. I definitely want to go and visit and hopefully catch some fish and enjoy the different scenery. Your right it does seem like you were in Florida around the Mangroves. Have to try out the Restaurant as well.

Bro I started watching fishing videos when the pandemic started and shut down all the sports. I realized I needed to learn as much as I could. I live in the Corpus Christi area and I know that Rockport has always been one of my favorite places to fish so I looked up Rockport fishing videos and yours was the first one I came across. after that I've been watching almost all of your videos ever since but i can honestly say this was definitely my favorite video you've made. I appreciate your authenticity and excitement because when I started making my fishing videos I felt like maybe I sounded a little too childish or too excited but screw what everybody else thinks. BROWNSVILLE!!! That my home town I miss living there so close to the the beach to Boca Chica and SPI next time try to go to the space x on Boca Chica also try Joe's Oyster Bar it's really good I some Mexican mini tacitos. Hi i came across your channel enjoyed the video bud. I live in Los Fresnos TX im glad you enjoyed the fishing in our area, if you diced to come back down try holly beach in Laguna Vista it's a good spot for reds, trout, flounder and you'll hit a snook from time to time. Just a recommendation bud 👍

You had to have driven right by the Snook honey hole several times. Next time your down, fish under the Gayman bridge in Brownsville out by the port. Huge Snook and no kayak required. Check out the vids on RU-vid. Thanks for sharing Bro. Awesome video.

Hey Nic, so did you make it an overnight or longer trip? I have a Sportsman 136 I transport on a Smith trailer and would be hesitant leaving it in a Hotel parking lot or any other parking lot for that matter very long.

16:05; i don’t disagree with TPWD on decreasing the limit and increasing the size, necessarily. The freeze sucked. But the problem is the probability that they’ll never go back even when fish populations do recover. They went from 20 down to 10 in like the 70’s or 80’s whenever it was. Then they went from 10 down to 5 without any major fish kill event probably because of the increasing human population of Texas, or whatever their scapegoate was for that. Ok, I get it. I got it. In the name of conservation. Yep. But don’t expect it to ever ever go back. TPWD has been slowly but surely tightening the nooses on outdoorsman rights ever since their inception with yearly fee increases, etc. The old-guard of TPWD being run by Texas outdoorsmen for Texas outdoorsmen is giving way to anti-outdoors ant-conservation, pro-banning stuff agents and acolytes. Maybe I’m wrong maybe I’m too hyperbolic. Well I hope I am wrong. Maybe I ought to just go hog hunting there ain’t no limit on them 😂.
