First Person Fishing!
Fishing the Grand River where the Nith River joins. This is located in Paris Ontario. Out for some mmall mouth Bass. I was just downstream of the Penman Dam. I was using Powerbait minnow grubs in orange and white colours as bait. This was a morning trip on a mostly sunny, partly overcast day. Caught tons of fish on this trip!

There is a gravel parking lot under the Dundas Street bridge, like 1 minute away from there, off of Grand River Street south. If you take the small trail by the river that goes right there is a rly good spot under the bridge you can shore fish from. You can also wade but it has stronger currents if the water is up a bit. You can fish the bridge pillars that usually get action and there are a couple nice pools you can hit from that area to closer to shore.

Glad you liked my spot! It's usually fairly decent, I've caught a couple hogs there before, 5 pounders. There are also a couple nice holes within the first couple hundred meters of the Nith you can hit from the bank when the water gets too cold to wade, usually have decent hits there. Awesome day though, some very nice ones there.

Yeah, just parked at the public lot and walked up river a bit

@@fanminwang2314 you can get down to the water near the bridge, there's a little trail on the side. Or you can start on the other side and just walk downstream from the dam

@@TheRiverFish Awesome man. I recently found a little pond on google earth view here in Paris. Super full of Pike. Sunfish to and caught a couple bass as well. Never been to a more productive spot, like every other cast was hooking up. 43°12'03.0"N 80°21'36.3"W The Pike arent huge or anything but still awesome spot.. Spoons and spinners were killing it, the majority of bites i was getting were from Pike, i was using braided line with no steel leader but would probably be a good idea to use one. Fair warning though, lots of Coyote poop in the area lol, I didnt see one myself but they are there for sure, and you gotta walk through some long grass so get a good coating of repellent on to avoid tic's if you decide to go.

@@TheRiverFish Yeah, I've actually found a couple rly good new spots in the area. If you ever want some suggestions for spots i got some. =) Found an access point up river on the Nith, tons of shore access and will be great for wading. So many Bass, Pike, and Trout are even still biting. Also some rly big carp.

good video. thanks for sharing. I suggest you to try the dam in Caledonia. Great multi species of fish. If you go around this time, you might be able to hook into some trout as well.

went out and bought matching grubs to what you were using =) getting late in the year but ive done well through Fall in the past.

Good luck with the grubs! Fall is hard, sometimes they bite like crazy other times they are just hiding. Hoping to get out tomarrow and catch something

Hey that's only 5 minutes from where I'm staying. How deep does the water get there?

Most spots it's around 3-4 foot and drop offs of 6-8

@@TheRiverFish any recommendations of lures? I see you using a ball jig with a small spin tail grub, but was curious if there's a specific colour or something

Whats your technic when you're throwing a jig like that? are you just popping it along the bottom? or just reeling it in keeping higher in the water column?

These kind of jigs I usually cast, let it sink a bit then retrieve at a medium speed. Add weight depending how strong the current is. I try to avoid the bottom unless I'm using something like a crayfish or 5inch or longer worm baits

@@TheRiverFish Ah cool thanks. I usually favor crank baits and dont jig a ton but you seem to have a lot of success with them so i wanted to try em out more often.

@@TheRiverFish If you get the chance you should try out the spot under the Dundas street bridge i talked about earlier. Ive even pulled walleye out of there.

I think you mean the Wincey Mills parking lot, which use to be a Canadian Tire years ago. The Canadian Tire has since moved. Or like you said there is a public parking lot near what use to be the Canadian Tire as well

@@TheRiverFish Ah yeah on weekends is rly crowded but way back behind the building by the river usually is open. There are even steps to get down the ledge that the rafting people put in. Just wanted to mention something cause if they go park by where the Canadian Tire is now, its a long walk heh.

Not much, was out with covid for awhile and then it had been thunderstorms everytime on my day off. Really really hoping to get out more soon.

This location is only accessible in the water, there are other locations above the dam that you can fish from shore by parking on willow st

If you go a few hundred meters up the Nith river there are some nice holes to hit. Park behind the Wincey Mills in the parking lot there and you can access them from shore. They arent as productive as when you wade out like that but you will catch a few.
