0:27 This young Japanese woman is Kazu Makino and, according to the end credits and the IMDb, she provided vocals to the soundtrack; she's likely seen also at 0:22. A couple of years later Kazu Makino founded noise rock band Blonde Redhead with Italian twin brothers Amedeo and Simone Pace. They still record and tour after more than thirty years. I once read a Facebook post by Kazu Makino saying that she met John Lurie in Japan. Judging from the tone of that post I had the feeling that they were in a relationship and he brought her to New York where she later met the Pace brothers. This TV series is produced by a Japanese broadcaster by the way.
I love "Fishing with John." It is so mellow & relaxing. The only one I've seen so far is Dennis Hopper fishing for the Giant Squid. I think Jim Jackie h is a fabulously unique talent. "Deadman" starring Johnny Depp with music by Neil Young is a cinematic experience I want to relive over & over. I'm recovering from a long illness right now, but I am buying that DVD, first chance I get. IfI still haven't convinced you, you get to see Iggy Pop in drag, dressed as a frontier pioneer woman!😄
Jarmusch: "What am I doing out here?" Waits: "I'd like to hold onto it a little while longer..." Dillon: "Want some Fanta?" Dafoe: "I get kind of sweet when it comes to bedtime." Hopper: "You got a screw loose, Johnny!" Narrator: "Both fishermen are covered in sores and boners."
The fishermen arrive at Kenny’s Tipperary Inn. They prepare for a good night’s sleep. The fishermen arrive at Kenny’s Tipperary Inn. They prepare for a good night’s sleep.
I think so too I remember thinking in Bottle Rocket when Dignan said "on the run from Johnny Law this is no trip to Cleveland" was a nod to Stranger than Paradise, and I remember Wes Anderson referencing what Jim thought of Life Aquatic somewhere.
If I was a cop and saw Jarmusch walking down a street with the shades and that bag in his hand, I'd be real interested. I've never seen anything more conspicuous in my life.
I had this on my watchlist for so long i couldn't remember why - Lol Well at least if someone mentions this i will have an idea what they are talking about! The dolphin story was beautiful!
He didn’t. He is describing a monkfish. I’ve seen flounder sticking out of monkfish mouths before-it’s right out of a Bosch painting. Nightmarish and disturbing.
@@stephencarroll230 Oh is that right? From his description I just kind of assumed it was an angler, but monkfish does make more sense considering that anglers are deep deep fish.
@@jackburton3540 I only know about monkfish because my bro is a commercial fisherman. I told him about Fishing with John many years ago, because he does actually watch those shows on tv, but I’m not sure he ever saw it. My favorite was the one with Defoe-so tragic! Hilarious.
Criterion Collection and Turner Entertainment Co. Presents FISHING WITH JOHN & TOM & JERRY Written & Directed by John Lurie William Hanna Joseph Barbara
Art snobs? Are you kidding? They’re Artists! ...Music, Painting, Filmmaking... Plus, Fishing Is a F***ing Art, too... Proper Art Snobs don’t create; they just spend money and try to talk pretty about stuff they don’t necessarily understand, desperately hoping that it gets them laid after finishing their snooty dinner and overpriced drinks. #EverythingIsMusic #AlwaysBeListening
It's almost overnight. Turn for the hungry out of ours. It's the quickest way he knows how, interestingly. Boot Nolling. Rolling. Polling. . . . Loo pestilence in theirs
...if you’re not kidding, then “The Perfect Storm” (2000) is an excellent place to start. They both give you “Jaws” (1975). We add the first sequel, “Jaws 2” (1978), but you’re on your own after that (although the fourth movie in the series is, maybe, the most ‘let’s go fishing’ of the franchise). “Piranha” (1978), for sure... and “Passion Fish” (1992). How about “Finding Nemo” (2003)? “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” (2011) will score you date movie points. “Moby Dick” (1956) isn’t nearly the book upon which it’s based, but it also isn’t as bad as you may have heard. Lastly, we give you “92 in the Shade” (1975). They’re gonna be others, along with fish and fishing sequences in movies that may be about other stuff, but we gotta quit here and get back to the episode. Cheers!
“A River Runs Through It,” with Brad Pitt, popularized fly fishing. “Talking’ Trash: The Legend of Bob the Garbageman” is a fantastic short doc on the striper surf fishing scene.
@@punkser I am in the midst of reading John’s book The History of Bones. You are correct, it was a Japanese company that was also producing the film of Lounge Lizards live in Berlin, which was 2 CDs as well. John was actually very poor at the time and there were all kinds of legal problems with both, probably why Fishing with John was only a couple episodes
My buddy who introduced me to this show was/is a major stoner and made sure we were properly acclimated prior to viewing. We watched the entire series minus the last two episodes. Great afternoon.
