Fishing With The DUCKETT CRAPPIE SLAYER! (Several Giant Fish)

I recently picked up the Duckett Crappie Slayer rod to test on some summer slabs here in Michigan. For about $70, the price is very attractive, and after a full day of winching on big fish, I would say this is a solid rod for the price. Fortunately, I was able to catch a lot of Crappie while shooting jigs under docks. That being said, this trip became a lot of work because the Channel Catfish were likely spawning in the same areas and it made for a crazy day with the Mule Minnow 2.2. Additionally, I was even able to land a giant Freshwater Drum. Gooooood times!

Crappies look like such FUN fishes to catch! Voracious and decent-sized. They tried to acclimate them here in france, like, a century ago, but the area they colonized is super limited. Which is better than being super-invasive like sunfishes, mind you. Edit: your huge catfishes are quite a catch as well.

Thanks! Yeah crappie are a lot of fun, but to your point, I’m glad they didn’t become an invasive problem. So many introduced species do…

On the subject of leader knots, I've gone through so many phases and have primarily favored the Alberto but I've always liked the blood knot. I have just always struggled with it. Recently a local fly fishing guide posted a video demonstrating how to tie a blood knot in 15 seconds. Granted you have longer tags to trim off using his technique but it really does work. I've been a blood knot tying machine!

Man, I really enjoy the thrill of casual fishing with an ultra-light, never knowing what'll bite. Here in NorCal, we have Lake Mendocino, land of the giant Crappie. Largely because Mendocino has Strippers, which feed on the large schools of shad. Already excited for February...

I've got an ultralight and a medium power rod. I've been waffling about stepping up to a MH or Heavy rod for catfish or slotting in a Light rod for the sac-a-lait. You've caught bigger cats on that Duckett Light than I have on my Medium. 😂😂

That rod actually looks killer for dock shooting, I’d love to pick your brain on how to find these Summer Crappie near me. I haven’t tried dock shooting in a long time. What were the depths that you think you were catching them in? There’s a bigger main lake near me known for trophy crappie and bass, but I’m sketched to get the yak out there. 😂
@FishAnything
@FishAnything 11 месяцев назад
Definitely be careful with the kayak on big water, but it is doable. Just make sure you wear a PFD, have a flag, and always put safety first. Conditions/fishing style in Florida are likely far different than here in Michigan. I found most of these Crappie off of the main river channel along main lake docks.

Hello ! Today is Friday September 1, 2023. Are that Duckett crappie slayer 6’6” light spinning rod are it better than the T F O panfish/ trout 6’6” light spinning rod yes are no please. Are you using straight braided fishing line in this RU-vid video with that Duckett crappie slayer 6’6” light spinning rod. May the lord bless your heart today to answer all of my questions and may the Lord bless you and your family and your RU-vid page in 2023 please 🙏🙏

@FishAnything 11 месяцев назад
Hey there! I was using 6lb braid to a. 6lb copolymer leader. I don't think it is better, but it is pretty similar quality. I would choose a TFO over this for multispecies and a variety of fishing techniques, whereas I would choose the Duckett if I wanted a specific Crappie stick.

Question Howdy, got my first ultra light setup (almost complete) I have 1 question, would 8lb berkley X5 braid be too heavy for casting lures around 1.5g - 2g It's 0.1mm thick and 4lb mono people use is 0.2mm So I thought since the braid is half as thin, it should be lighter and cast much better then mono What do you think of this? And will I get lots of distance compared to 6lb Berkley x5
@FishAnything
@FishAnything 11 месяцев назад
You should be fine with the 8lb braid but I would probably go with 6lb if you have the option. The thinner, the better.
