We're fishing Wolf Creek Dam, right below Lake Cumberland, for whatever will bite, but we've got sturgeon on our mind!
On this day we were fishing alongside fisheries biologist and ichthyologist, throwing swimbaits and jerkbaits for trout and skipjack, but also soaking some nightcrawlers on the bottom since we knew that lake sturgeon were in the area.
Lake Sturgeon must be immediately released if caught, there is no harvest of this species in the state of Kentucky. For more information on lake sturgeon visit: fw.ky.gov/Fish/pages/lake-stu...

If you find sturgeon interesting, and who doesn't, check out Herman the Sturgeon, the famous 79-year-old sturgeon, who lives at the Bonneville Fish Hatchery in Oregon (about an hour's drive east of Portland, on the Columbia River). He is roughly 10 ft long and 500 lbs. Lot of info available on-line. But nothing beats seeing old Herman in person. Sorry, he doesn't give out autographs.
