Great Video, my parents had a bigger fishing boat with a 30 HP Union Semi-diesel made in Norway. Lovely engines and yes we could make it reverse as well, had to learn the trick because it would start in reverse if you were a bit heavy with the compressed air...
Hello. I was thinkin about making a movie about how the engine works. We have to see:) The bulb keeps the heating when the engine runs at slow speed, and must be preheated before start. "Modern" hotbulb engines " Semidiesels" have no bulb, just a preheating chamber in the cylinder head. The engines can be preheated by a propanburner or a big electrik glowplug or the classic way the keroseneburner.
Thanks. Well I do it just to show the smokerings and to show how to turn the rotation. It´s not easy to se, but it runs forward and backwards in this movie. Hilsen.
Nice boat, the form is beautiful and you seem to have maintained it very well. Why are you slowing it and speedin up again? To see the reaction or to get it to run backwards?
Hello. The engine makes 21 hp at 300 r/m. The engine weighs about 1,5 ton. It´s started by compressed air. The boat is about 8,4x 2,81 meters, about 7 ton.
Yes. This engine makes 21 hp. I know boats likes this one where they have replacet the engine to a modern diesel, 100 hp is minimum to get the same power. I think this hotbulb engine weights about 1,5 tonnes.
i love the old engines like that and the hit and miss engines. i could watch one run all day. what is the rpm range on that engine, it must be fairly hi, i noticed you were running an altenator off of it. i think it takes at least 500 or 600 rpms to run an alt.
Well, most of the modern people of today prefere modern engines, They just want to switch the ignition on and start the engine. With this engine you have to preheat it for about 5 min before you can start.
I got one question why AREN'T they making them AGAIN? I don't know if you got any take-aways or hot food places where they fry stuff. I guess you could filter the waste oil and feed it to that old beast, no problem. BTW how many horsepower?
Hello. The engine makes about 600 r/m, but nobody runs an engine at it´s maximum speed. So I think 450-500 i maximum in real life. Ther´s no problem to run a alternator, you knew from big wheel to small wheel, mecanic roules. Have a nice day.
@XELA2T Well it´s around 50-60 degrees celcius under load. There is no heating at all in the weelhouse, but it´s possible to do it. I have put tubes outside the hull on some of my boats, under the whater line. A coolingsystem lika that is perfect, no saltwather in the engine, and you don´t need any conservation of the engine before the winter. Just put some antifreeze liquid in the system, like you do on your car. Take care :)
