I did the modifications, because it became shorter, so for this shape I could make a leather sheath. With the hook it is a bit harder...So in this actual shape it almost looks like a "matchate", but it is shorter (better for small issues) and the steel of this Fiskars is more more more berrer then an average "matchate"! I thing this is the best thing in this "knife".The hook and the longer handle are a great features on this device, if you are working with it many hours...
Thank you! Yes... I use it until that time with satisfaction. The "knife" got a leather sheath, so it's easy to carry, or mount on the side of my pack. But the handle is also durable no any damage has happened until this time, or due to my modification... So it's OK. I'm over some working days in the forest of my family so, the experience is that, for a really whole-day(!) chopping is not the best with it, because the original handle-button gives a very good comfortable point. So I bought the new version of the X3, just for this kind of jobs... But this modified version is still quite good for bushcraft trips or hiking, because easy to carry due to the new “compact” size :-)
Też zrobiłem modyfikacje Fiskars. Ale moim zdaniem obcięcie uchwytu jest błędem 1. Skracając zamach zmniejszasz siłę cięcia. 2. Pogarsza się ergonomiczność uchwytu, po długim używaniu maczeta będzie wypadać z dłoni. Ręką się męczy. Mam uwagi do wykonania szlifu- brzydki. Zaletą takiej maczety jest w jej czubku, można BARDZO precyzyjnie odcinać samym czubkiem. Nie znalazłem żadnej maczety wykonanej fabrycznie w ten sam sposób, dlatego 8 lat temu przerobiłem Fiskars i jest rewelacyjny
Sorrry for the late answer... I kept the original angle. It is around 18-20 degree.Of course, it was importtant on the "ex-hook area"... but on the origional edge, it was fine, I did not modified.
