I love that they honour and pay tribute to Fist of Fury so well in this film. They even reference the call back to Bruce Lee's version of Chen Zhen during his final fight with Hiroshi Suzuki when he draws a katana and Chen draws his nunchucks. Only here, Jet Li's version of Chen Zhen draws a belt instead. Even the sign General Fujita had in the beginning was a direct reference to the 'Sick man of Asia' sign in Fist of Fury, when Bruce makes two of the Japanese dojo's top students physically eat their own words. So awesome and badass!
I remember watching this scene with my old man and he mentioned something about Jet Li being fluid while General Fujita being able to pack hits. His favourite part was the crescent kick.
2:54 I love how Billy Chow just straight up tanks this flying kick. A lot of his power is conveyed through props and stagecraft, but right here they show that he really is a meat-wall of a dude.
"If you learn to be fluid, to adapt, you will be unbeatable" Chen: fast, sudden strikes Fujita: heavy strikes Chen: copies the heavy strikes, adds environmental attacks Fujita: copies the environmental attacks, adds pressure point strikes Chen: copies the pressure point strikes, adds limb grabbing Fujita: copies the limb grabbing, adds throwing Chen: copies the throwing, adds finishing move to previously-damaged areas Fujita: out of options, grabs a weapon Chen: copies the weapon grab, executes kill
Fun fact. The sign doesn't read "Jing Wu is closed" but actually "Sick man of the East" referring to China's fall from grace from being a regional power of Asia to being a punching bag for colonial powers
Absolutely true. Yet, when it's being heard in this English version, we can understand the anger and determination from the master as he's willing to fight to keep his school remained open.
I think Fist of Legend is a rare case of a film with a superior English dub. The sound effects are far more impactful, and the score is more dramatic and memorable.
Hum! Have you ever heard about a man called "BRUCE LEE"?? If you want to know the definition of the word "fast", just go and watch Bruce Lee movies. Jet LI is simply a beginner comparing to Bruce Lee in all terms.
Li could have taken the belt out earlier and dominated but I guess it was just supposed to be fist first until the General took it too far and tried to use a sword to kill. Amazing fight
The camerawork combined with the actor's movements did an amazing job of making the audience actually feel that the soldier is extremely strong and almost made of steel.
Billy Chow is one of the nicest people IRL lol. He was a legit kick boxing champion too. I love that he always plays villains when he was such a nice fella.
I give mad props to Billy Chow being able to move like that in that restricting army uniform. He was probably hot as f*** as well 🤣. Could’ve at least had him take the coat off for the second half of the fight when it got “serious.”
Eventhough i am a big jet li fan, but i must admit jackie chan's dragon forever final fight vs benny is the most real fight scene i ever watch. But this on is better than jackie in terms of speed and choreograph
You can be trained in Martial Arts. However, you cannot go against and race a soldier. Since, soldiers goes through extreme bone enchancing method to keep their bones much stronger than any ordinary man. The General is a true legend and this is a true story 🤠
