Thank you, excellent! I love that your guest Roxanne is so sincerely into what she does and hearing how she evolved into becoming a stylist. Maybe she could write a book on this and further elaborate on clothing choice. I’m sure she probably knows this, but I’d add that going beyond overall body type, there are other aspects to play around with. For instance I have square shoulders and a high waistline, so I like empire waists and scoop necklines- long shawl collars don’t look best on me.. If you have a round, square, etc. face shape, there’s a better style collar for that element as well.

Nothing has really changed over the years as far as what I discovered as a teenager. Mini skirts were only for twiggy style skinny folk! I discovered empire lines and still look great in this style in my seventies. My advice- go and try on lots of different styles and discover what you look good in and makes you feel good and comfortable. Once you work this out, you’ll choose clothing successfully. Not all patterns for sewing suit every body. Learn to adjust patterns so that you can enjoy a variety within your style and designs that make the most of your body. Trust your instincts.

I’ve just learned I’m ‘apple shape’ and dress accordingly. also a large bust, so I always go for ‘V’ neck .

This concept of balance is intuitive to me. But HOW to do the changes as she demonstrated is useful. For example the use of the belt, the empire waistline, use of puffed sleeves all very helpful in choosing flattering designs.

Most older ladies have a tummy. I would like to know how best to hide it.

At 22:42. She explains that if you are bigger in the middle, you need a high waistline on your dress (just under the bustline) so the material cascades and it conceals any trouble areas in the middle.

First lady looked good. not sure about the second lady she made her look frumpy. Hope not to offend.

no offense taken, but if the lady were watching, maybe you could word this a little more politely.

She refers to different body types so she uses the same terminology but the ladies are dressed to describe how to disguise faults.
