Just bought a new one here in 2022. They have changed the design and with help from a previous comment here was able to get it working. You have to take out the white rubber ring they have and place an 2 in rubber o ring "hydro flask gasket" in and Wala. Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks for this comment. This is what I had to do, and it finally works. All the other advice to just remove the rubber ring renders it useless in an American Maid bottle - no vacuum to pump the water. Thanks again!

Companies trying to make you buy both thwir pump and bottle and one company doesn't have bottles and the other doesn't have pumps at the store so this only makes it a problem. Sometimes greed makes them lose.

I freaking love you man and I haven’t even watched the video yet! I just bought this pump from Walmart with the American made jug and was about to blow a gasket because they don’t match up! Thanks! I was ready to return my pump but now it fits!!! FYI - using needle-nose pliers is MUCH more effective than a flat-head screwdriver. I pulled my seal out in one swipe. Good info at the end, though: you should NOT try to lift the bottle with the pump handle because it's not snuggly fit to the bottle neck. But it works, and that's the important thing!!!!

Been there. It should be a common sense that Walmart sells the pumps that fit These bottles without people getting frustrated. Good thing these bottles are cheaper than other bottles and I have like 8 of them

Looks like the pump design is changed, by removing the white rubber ring it fits well in the bottle but no pressure in water even after multiple press. I had put a small white ring i got with costco thermoflask cap after removing the plastic ring and woo hoo, water flows like anything in one press.

Thank you very much for having this very informative video about modifying the Primo Pumps to fit the American Made 5 gallon water bottles. Before I watched your video, I was very frustrated and almost ready to return both primo pumps back to Walmart for a refund. I had also purchased 4 American Made Water Bottles, this morning, when I purchased both Primo Pumps too. Now, everything is a okay!

Walorenzo I think they either struggled too much and couldn’t get the seal out or they realized that without the seal it wont be a tight fit and the air will leak, giving you much lower performance. Or they do work for Primo 😉

Thx for the video. One thing I still had to find a sealer. So I used the seal from the bottle top. Just cut a hole in it. You were very helpful.

If you push it downwards without removing the seal, it will work perfectly, but if you remove the seal water will not come out of the bottle

I bought the 3 gallon "square" American Made water bottle and the Primo pump without the handle (the only one Walmart had). I had read reviews about removing the silicone gasket ring. I did that but it does NOT lock down on the bottle at all. It stays loose so there is too much air and I pump 100 times to get a trickle.

Did you try with the ring in, without removing the ring first? If not work still, you might have to buy a correct pump online somewhere. Let us know.

@@jamescc2010 It doesn't fit at all with the gasket in. But, I did manage to get the plastic outer ring to tighten. It's just really hard to turn. Water flow is better but there still seems to be too much air. I have an idea though. Will post if it works. A trip to Lowes today first!

Okay, I bought a piece of rubber and made my own thin washer. It works fantastic now.... very tight, no air leaks. I took pix of what I did if you're interested.

I found the rubber washer as a 6" x 6" square at Lowes in the plumbing aisle. I called the company from the sticker and they said it was safe for drinking water. I used the old washer as a template and drew it on the washer with ball point pen. I found I needed to cut the hole out where the water goes through.... apparently, not all of the pumps are designed with the hole off center.

Hello I just bought this ! U don’t have to go through the whole screwdriver Mumbo schmumbo. There’s a little crack at the end of the dial - u stick a paperclip in there and turn opposite direction and it just pops right off . If u do this screwdriver method u damage the inside !!! Don’t do it that way. Cheers !

Well I got that pump and can't make it work. I took the gasket thingy out... set the pump on there and turned it counter clockwise. It doesn't seem to be tight enough and it's sucking air. Is there some way to fix this to make it work?

Hmm did not run into this issue. Check to make sure inside the pump did not damage or anything broke, then try to push and tighten it again. Did you feel the pump fit the opening of the bottle or the pump is too big or loose?

Just tried this tick on my Nestlé bottle but it didn't work. It seems that Primo people have changed the design of the pump. It no longer screws/ unscrews as much.

For 3 gallon water bottles you probably don't need to remove that gasket coz the brim may be smaller than the 5 gallon ones. By the way, does the pump's hose reach close enough to the bottom of the bottle?
