Few things here: First, I have never worked with chainlink fence before, but after watching this video, I have learned so much that I feel confident that I could tackle a chainlink project. Second: I always love it when I see people "suck it up, buttercup" and work with what they have instead of resorting to returning something. As long as the item is truly not broken and can be "made new," I often feel that the hassle of returning to the store outweighs anything else, so I just grab a frosty beverage and get to work. Third, why is it that anytime I hear the word "turnbuckle" that I want to rip the padding off of something and start eating it? (Note: If anyone gets that joke, they are showing their age).
I swear you have a sign on your back that says “ cheat me, I love it!” lol You have the worst luck. It is a good thing you are a man of many talents. Phil
I just knew you would ignore the instructions. Laughed when you tossed them away. 😆 Truth in advertising - it said adjustable gate - not the frame obviously, but the links that had to be adjusted. You did a great job, by the way, it looks really good.
I know the feeling Mr. Brad, I got one of those big dog kennels from Lowes, with the chain link like that for while I was building my fence for the dogs, and it was just as aggravating with the chain link...I am glad I got it tho, it made a nice little chicken run once I got the dog fence finished, LOL.
I was shouting out "turnbuckle" at my computer trying to help you out. : ) I hate when that happens to me. (which is becoming for frequent as I age) LOL
You had me saying turnbuckle, turnbuckle at my computer when you was having a senior moment, lol....I have those moments too! What is too become of me now that I’m talking to my computer 😂
What's worse is not remembering the name of someone (that I've know!!) when standing right in front of them. "Well, hello what's your name? My brain ain't working!" The older I grow, like weeds, the bigger the problem becomes.
Been putting off going to one of my favorite places because of the temptations there. Must make that trip to Lowes, soon, to pickup some needed stuff. After watching your video, I sure am glad that a chain link gate isn't on my list. That's for sure. Admire your patience. Like your two gate idea. I'm sure it'll be worth it, many times over, to have that choice only a latch click away. God Bless.
LOL - Don't have anything in particular on my wishing list, right now. Impulse buying is usually my downfall. See it, want it, and it tries to follow me home. Too often! Strange it 's never things I need like 6 mil plastic, Grip-Tite nails, plywood or plain white paint. (Stuff on my need list.) Instead, it's the sirens of Greek lore that lure me onto the shores of credit card destruction.
I’ve run many a financially sound ship into the Rocky shores of credit card destruction. Even the most seasoned sailors fall victim to the call. Thank God I have a first mate that is always at the ready to snatch the wheel and steer us clear. Ahoy!!!
PS: Just got back from Lowes. Can't believe how much the price of 10'x100' 6 mil plastic has gone up since the last time I bought a box. I need about 40'. Worse 2 pks of 10'x25' 6 mil cost almost as much as the box of 10'x100'. I'd have been crazy to have bought only 50'. They were out of roofing nails with plastic washers in the economy packs. I wouldn't use the contractor size bucket in the rest of my lifetime. So, still have them on my need list. And, yes, I just had to pick up some small odds and ends that called out to me from those rocky shores. lol Fortunately, the memory of the cost to replace my roof last week, kept me out of the TOOLS section. I DON'T NEED those Irwin blades you praised so highly a few days ago. I don't! I don't! I don't!!
It probably was a return, last guy tangled it up and threw it back in the box to return it. Turnbuckle . . . I couldn't remember either!! lol . . . looks good . . . Rog
Yes, I bought an open box and the chain link was so tangled that I had to return it. The second one was unopened and I still had to twist one strand completely in and adjust a few others. More work on the chain link then putting the rest of it together!
I must have missed where you told us what was happening..... I don’t understand where you are. I can see that you set up a new home but is it on the same land where the house is? What is happening with your older home? I saw where you went and looked at another house but it wasn’t suitable though it sure was a pretty place. Was there something wrong with your other home or did you just want a new one? Sorry about all the questions but I am really confused.
BCtruck, rebuild, repair, repurpose That’s understandable, I am probably going to do the same sort of thing next year. Thanks for clarifying what had happened. Your wife seems very happy with your new home so I am glad it has worked out so well. Hope your neighbours are easy to live near too.
Do the pipes that attach to the side verticals come with the kit? If so, they appear to be 6 ft and I'm assuming you cut them down to 48 inches to make your 4x4 gate. Thank you.
@@bctruck Well, it's been over a year now that I installed the double gates and your video helped me so much. Thank you. But something went wrong over time and I don't know if you've encountered the same problem. After installing the gates, the latch had very good clearance through Summer and Fall. Then this Spring the latch became very tight. I'm assuming the posts shifted in the Winter, but I'm just guessing. I live in Northern Illinois. I plumbed/leveled everything, but for some reason, the latch tightened up. I'm not certain if I should remove both gates and try to readjust everything...except the posts/pipe of course. By the way, the posts/pipes are well plumbed upright. Any info appreciated. Thank you. - Jose
Because when I checked to see how you would have done it, you were very busy telling other people how they should have done things and I didnt want to disturb you.
Buy a gate that’s already put together for couple more bucks then $70.00 🤔idk where you’re shopping but around here at Home Depot that gate cost $170.00 lol
You can’t buy an already made gate for a fence opening size that they do t make them for. That’s what these gate kits are for. To fit openings that aren’t standard size. Sizes that they don’t make gates for.
If that was a lot of work for you, wow, I through this together in a half hour. This gate is designed for non nominal gate sizes btw. Good video though
Obviously, yours wasn’t tangled in a knot. As soon as I got the thing untangled ,putting the gate together was Childs play. You should learn the difference between through and threw , but good comment otherwise.
The name Fit Right is kind of scary. Years and years ago my mom bought an air freshener for her car at the 7-11. It was called the No Spill air freshener. When she opened it the air freshener spilled. She took it inside the 7-11 and told them what happened and asked for her money back. They said no, No Spill was just the name of the air freshener.
