Dude, that was an AWESOME review. Straight forward, concise, and intelligible. Believe it for not, my clip on my Charge 4 just broke today (one of the things you mentioned), and it not covered under warrante (wear and tear). You convinced me to upgrade.
I'm glad you enjoyed the review! Yeah I heard that happening a good amount with the Charge 4 so hopefully it won't happen with the upgrade. Good luck on your fitness journey!
Just to mention for charge 4 which I have for over 2 years now. The charger caused the little connectors to wear off and now I struggle to charge. Also for the interface, if you hold the button (squeeze) it brings some additional settings like do not disturb, sleep mode and screen wake
Thanks great video. Yeah I think it's worth noting the spotify on charge 4 is pretty pants anyway though since you need your phone anyway (there is no offline download play). I have to say I'd actually rather not have it in the watch rather than the poor implementation that they had before. With most wireless bud headphones you can skip tracks anyway with a touch of your ear, and you will typically select your playlist before putting your phone in your pocket / band anyway so the only piece of functionality that the spotify app actually adds is playlist selection if you want to change mid-run.
I totally agree. I think the Spotify integration was more of a publicity move for the band than actual functionality. The on board media controller works well too
Was thinking of upgrading to Charge 5 but held if off when I saw it does not have any altimeter something important for me who uses stairs on a daily basis. TBH Charge 4 is more than enough for me at this point.
Thanks for the great review I bought the charge 4 over the charge 5 because of the obvious price difference and no Spotify on the 5( my daughter who is getting this for Xmas would have been horrified). I did like the look of the 5 and the screen looks amazing. But your overall opinion between the 2 based on practicality was great. Thanks
Got both of them and I must confess I am wearing back the C4. I am pretty disappointed that they removed the relax app and stairs from the C5. No sense upgrading a device removing features. Sure the five has EDA scan but can't find it useful. Maybe I'm just a simple man, but I know when I'm stressed...I just need a relax help guide on my wrist to calm down, I find it pretty much more useful. Last but not least, those clock faces on C5 are all horrible (IMO). I'll keep preferring the black and white screen unless C5 will have more clock faces and possibly make them more flexible and with the possibility to personalize them according to your own needs.
Your not the only one who day they prefer the other watch faces. It does seem to be a common theme across the board to take away stairs climbed as a metric. Not sure if it's because it's not that accurate or not used as often I'm not sure. But I agree, taking away functionality is disappointing
Yeah stairs climbed maybe is just a very approximate data, generally yeah, such a strange idea removing features that I'm pretty sure could have been still offered without any significant effort. Thanks for always replying!
Great video! I have the C4 and Still thinking about it. My concern with C5 is the absence of an altimeter. I'm wondering if that can affect also data about steps without GPS active since I guess the device uses multiple data to have precise information.
Hello Mr Frost. Your videos are great! Seem from a fitness professional a and discarding unnecessary "fashion" attributes (but considering then when useful). Tim, I'm on a budget. Would you recommend a Band 3 Pro over a Charge 4? I'm interested on GPS/HR. If you recommend SpO2, the Band 4 Pro would be considered. Thanks!
I'm glad you enjoy the videos! Both bands are very comparable when it comes to both fitness and sleep tracking. I do have a slight bias to Fitbit. Where are you based out of. Typical I would recommend Fitbit for those located around the United States and I would recommend Huawei for those located in and around Asia. Also the Fitbit Charge 4 does have Sp02 as well(came in an update). Hopefully that is helpful
The difference will be the screen, ECG readings, EDA readings, and a bit note accuracy on heart rate with its newer sensor. You do actually get Spotify, stairs climbed, and a haptic back button on the Charge 4
Thank you very much for this review. I am looking to buy a fitbit for my friend as a Christmas present. I wasn't sure on the charge 4 or 5. This review helped me decide.
It looks like fitbit has discontinued the charge 4-- it's not available on the US website. If you go with the 4, you might have to buy at a store that still has them in stock.
Okay my Charge 2, just broke down after I bought it in 2016. I wanted to stay in the fitbit app becuase I am so used to it, that the Charge 5 has no altermete is kinda meh and the spotify control is nice. And atm on Amazon Charge 4 for 79 Eur inkl taxes, and 109 for Charge 5. I still took the charge 4, because I am not a fan of always on displays neither. Thanks for the review.
@@FitnessWithFrost thank you very much. I it is a really usefull Tool. I lost last year 30kg/66lbs because I couldctrack halfway descent my kcal income/outcome.
Starting out in fitness. Charge 4 all day. Then if having a fitness tracker actually helped with your fitness, after 1-2 years, as a reward look at a fitness smart watch. Depending where you are located the Charge 4 is about half the price of a Charge 5.
If it weren't for the GPS issues on Charge 5, I would definitely get it. I'm kind of disappointed because if I don't get I'll have to pay $300 for EDA and ECG on the Fitbit Sense but I really wish they could have put the GPS antennae in a better location so idk if I should get a fitbit
Just got charge 5 last week. Upgraded from charge 4 that I had 2 years. Battery on charge 5 lasts one day. Trying to find out why. They say GPS. Why is my GPS running after I finish my workout. How do I stop this. Charge 4 has GPS but it wouldn't run after I finished workout. I'm so confused. Charge 5 screen is great. Still getting used to features. I'm not seeing the upgrade. My charge 4 started falling apart a little withbthe connectors to the band. I've been using crazy glue to keep it together last 4 months. But it worked and the charge 4 still worked great. When I first started charge 4 went 6-7 days on a charge. After 2 years that got reduced to 3 full days on a charge. Charge 5 gives me 1.5 days max. So disappointing and there is no info on how to fix this
Great video! A late question, but you kept talking about the charge 4’s haptic button, i was wondering if the charge 5 has any haptics at all? And that means no back button 5?
You are going to lose it on accuracy on your fitness tracking and sleep tracking and the app is a tad bit more cluttered. If none of that bothers you it's a good deal
@@FitnessWithFrost, hey, I apologize for the late reply. My Charge 3 seems dimmer than it was 3 years ago when I bought it and, up until a couple weeks ago, the notifications weren’t coming up on it properly. I actually toggled the notifications on and off in the app a couple weeks ago and so far I’ve been getting them on my Charge 3 every time ever since. I’m fine with not having the GPS on the 3, but it would be nice in some situations. I love the floor counter, and also keeping a close watch of my steps throughout the day. Also, I don’t really need the new premium features included with the Charge 5. So, the biggest knock with my 3 is the brightness at this point. Is the brightness any better with the 4 than it is with the 3? I did buy a Charge 4 just recently, but it’s still unopened as I’m trying to decide which route to go.
The Charge 4 has a very similar screen to the 3 so I don't think you will see a big difference in brightness. The Charge 5 is brighter, but it will not count floors(it seems like a lot of manufacturers are moving away from it). So it's really up to you. If the brightness is a big factor I would go with the Charge 5
I actually wasn't the biggest fan of the implementation of that back button. It would even think I was holding the button down sometimes when I was in a plank. The way to get around the Charge 5 takes a little bit to get used to, but you get used to it. Hopefully that helps
problem of charge 5 is the colorful screen, don't like that at all. I have a charge 3 now, with dimmed screen issues and out of warranty, need another one
It's a pretty big difference. You get a much brighter and easier to read display of the Charge 5. One of the problems with the 4 is in direct sunlight it was a bit hard to read
@@FitnessWithFrost It was actually impossible to read in sunlight. The reason why I gave up on my 4. Are you saying that you are able to read the 5 outside..?
I checked out the Charge 5 and didn't like the way it looked; much prefer the Charge 4 looks which are more masculine and give me an old Movado watch vibe while the Charge 5 looks like a larger Luxe and seems to be aimed more towards girls.
I can see what you mean by that. The Charge 4 is a little bit harder with angles where the Charge 5 is more rounded. The only time I noticed a difference is during sleep. The Charge 5 was much less noticeable
Since the last past month I been working out hitting the gym hoping to lose weight at the end of it all I really need a fitness tracker 👣 to help me accurately track the amount of calories I burn throughout the day during my workouts so having a fitness tracker would really take my fitness journey to the next level So I'm aiming to buy myself the charge 4 since the charge 5 is way out of my price range so I'm currently saving up for the charge 4 and with black Friday coming up soon Hopefully there would be amazing deal on it fingers crossed 🤞
I’m here because in only 4 months, my Charge 4 has worn thin around the buckle on the strap and is about to snap. The band is so stiff! I upgraded to the Charge 4 from a Versa 2 (swam once, it stopped working) and whilst I love the slim design, the hard, plastic case and rigid silicone strap of the C4 has not been a nice experience to wear. Having GPS on for hikes takes battery life from 5 days down to 1 and I haven’t tried it for swimming as too worried it too would break. The Spotify feature is a waste, Fitbit Pay is good but a bit fiddly to unlock. Getting a replacement strap to match is now proving problematic so I may just buy the C5, however, this will be three Fitbits in under 18 months… bad luck or bad designs? 🤷🏻♀️
I have heard about some buckles breaking in the Charge 4. Couldn't agree much more that the design leaves you wanting more. They definitely improved by a good amount with the 5
So... for someone who just wants to keep an eye on their health (sleep, heart rate, ECG, possibly blood pressure if that is even a thing?) and would like GPS for her walks, the Fitbit Charge 5 seems a great option? Would I need Premium for these things?
You would not need premium for any of those things unless you were looking for a longer look at trends. You can see the data from the last 7 days without premium. Hopefully that is helpful
I just got my new Fitbit Charge 5 and I am charging it up right now. Also Fitbit app is installed on my Motorola android phone. Nobody seems to explain in the Charge 5 videos, To anybody, How does the free 6 month premium get setup or installed for the Charge 5? thank you for the info.
@@FitnessWithFrost Ah, so I setup the premium account and then before the 6 months is over, I can then cancel before I get charged, correct? I got to that point asking me for my password and VERIFY. thanks and take care.
Agh! You said nothing about the shockingly bad screen brightness on the 4! That’s the whole reason I clicked on this vid, wanted to see a brightness difference in the sunlight. Dang blast it sonny jim. Also just a heads up, might wanna check the double up at 5:30 in the vid
It's really if you will have FOMO with the screen. 69$ is an amazing price and 129$ is great for the Charge 5 too. I would still go with the Charge 5 if it was me because I know I would like the screen a whole bunch more
@@FitnessWithFrost is the screen more durable and easier to read outside on the 5? GPS isnt a big deal for me but the stress tool seems like a big help. Do i need continued prem subscription for that? I do alot of martial arts and inside workouts. So i want something thatll last, and help me the best with or without membership. At 69$ i wouldnt want to miss out but $119at costco and 6 months prem seems real good
You do not need the premium subscription to use it. I actually have a video about Premium coming out later today. The screen is both more durable and easier to read even tho it is slightly smaller. Also since you do martial arts it would be more comfortable with the rounded sides. The Charge 4 is more angled
I am going to buy Charge 4. Charge 4's display is unique and more nerdy, whereas even though charge 5 has better display, it reminds me of those Chinese watches. Charge 4 looks more like G-Shock with grey scale display and perfect sharp shape like latest iPhone. plus, all the best features. There are a lot of cheap watches out there with color display, but not many with such grey scale display, but not many with such clutter free grey scale, clear to read, text only display. If not fitbit charge 4, then only G-Shock has such display.
I do believe you're in the minority when it comes to your preference, but I'm glad you found the one the best suits you. Enjoy your new band and good luck on your fitness journey
The GPS is more accurate due to there not being any problems with it. I do think the Charge 5 does have the better heart rate monitor. The Charge 4 only has a pressure sensitive button with a squeeze and not a physical one. But I do prefer that over not having any type of button.
@@FitnessWithFrost there are several reviews stating the charge 5 has GPS or hr issues. That's probably why the charge 4 coat more than the charge 5 on Amazon
The issue there arises from the GPS. It has had some issues with some people that if it's too tight it doesn't read. I didn't have that problem. The people that ended with that problem had to loosen up their band and the heart rate became less effective. It definitely is a fault in their design
Hello Frost, great work. Guidance for 'Fitbit', considering: Daily usage, compliment traditional watch, current premium trials, at least 2 yrs usage. Regards from India, Happy New Year- Avi
I would say the Charge 5. It has the most features. There should be a new Sense this year and Versa that might switch it up because of Googles acquisition of Fitbit
One thing I hate about the Charge 4 and previous models is the band. They would break easily. I bought a cloth band with velcro enclosure. It's small but stretches over my wrist.
I can't believe none of the reviews are talking about the battery dropping to 15% in 24 hours. This thing won't even go one full day without being charged. Fit bit needs to do a software patch to fix this. I have everything turned off. Brightness on low, heart rate off, heart zone off. Everything is OFF. It still can't go 2 days even though it advertises 7 days.
Yes and no. It doesn't have the ECG or the EDA sensors or the 2xs brighter display that has always on. It does have Spotify, a haptic side button, and does floor detection
@@FitnessWithFrost I’m buying for my misses only reason I think better is 4 has altimeter unlike 5 which I see as important. I bought her charge two about 3 years ago and it’s still going. It’s silly they take away a feature for 5 that most people want. Altimeter is a dealbreaker for me.
I know what you mean by that. I'm not sure why, but it seems like a lot of bands have been taking the altimeter away for some reason. I hope your misses enjoys her new band
@@FitnessWithFrost I have fond memories when I first bought her c2 she said “look babe I’ve got this achievement for climbing stairs” she was so proud of herself I’ll never forget it.
Not worth it, I have the 4 in burgundy and with a belt clip that I keep in my pants pocket so it won't easily come out, I dislike anything on my wrist by the way I miss The One lasts 2 weeks between charges and had all the functions that I needed, I wish they would bring it back, it was plain and simple
That's cool you found a good use case that fit yours. I don't think fitbit will bring back anything like that anytime soon because the majority of people see looking for something on their wrists.
@@FitnessWithFrost Walmart had a Black Friday sale where Walmart’s remaining stock was sold. Unfortunately, the sale ended and only 3rd parties sell it now on Walmart for normal price :(
I HAVE RETURNED (March 2022) FOR A FULL REFUND MY NEW CHARGE 5 after Fitbit support acknowledged FITBIT has been working on a software fix to issues affecting battery life. NO ETA is know for the fix to the software. DO NOT BUY THIS watch until FITBIT comes clear about the fix to the batteries issues which can reduce the expected life from 5 days to 1 1/2 day. BTW, I went back to using my old Charge 2.
I have heard people talking about this battery issue. I didn't have any problems with my unit, but good to know that Fitbit is aware of it. Sad to hear they don't have a ETA on a fix though
No mention of the Charge 4 massive problem with band holder breaking off, a very poor design, just happened to mine, went to website and nothing but me too's. Do not buy this product.
I personally disliked the charge 4 band as well as the uncomfortable boxy shape.. it took so long to get use to sleeping in for REM scores. Great review though, I’m ready for the charge 5 new shape, feel & simply everything!
You're so wrong the charge 5 has better GPS then the charge 4. put the Crack pipe down mate. and so who cares if the charge .4 has Spotify you can't do anything with it just flip through songs
No reason to get so hostile. The GPS is great when it works, but sadly there are a lot of people that had problems with the GPS. I need to let people know about that in the review. To say I'm so wrong about the Charge 5 is a bit of a stretch
all the crap your saying does don't tell me a thing does it start auto and of the things on auto so you dont need to start them is there a sleep /stress auto test and so on be good if you youtubers had a brain i know you work out so its hard to find i smart person that goes to the gym
