Bro the reason you had to grind the bar off is because you fitted the swivel plate base side up. I've fitted the exact same unit to a Peugeot boxer and the instructions clearly direct you to fit it the plate other way around. You don't need to grind the bar off if its fitted correctly.

So, just to add a remark here, you installed the swivel base upside down. That's most likely why you couldn't properly fit and needed to cut that bar.
