In this episode we remove the Jaguar XK8's rear springs, shock absorbers and spring mounts, the EASY WAY!. Then we rebuilt the rear struts dampers and Shockmounts using Adamesh lowering springs, Bilstein Dampers and new top strut mounts supplied by British parts.
Springs. Then we re-fit them to the car.
This episode does not show the way recommended by Jaguar, So please remember it is a 'how I did it' rather than a 'how to do it' video.

Hi John just finished four days replacing a rear lower suspension bush on my early XKR. Looked at all the sites including yours, but watching and doing are two different things… The bolt came out easily so l got a false sense of progress but the bush just would not move. WD40, three foot extension on my long bar, and snapped three threaded bars. Take. It out try it the other way and then back to original,, leave it over night and try again and eventually it moved. Only just and then the other way again, no joy, lots of heat, burnt out all the seals and grease, more WD40 and leave overnight again. Finally and grudgingly it came out, but fought me all the way… Getting the new bush was just about as difficult. Took all day but finally got there. Since of satisfaction once job done but what a b/stard of a job. NICK

I need to add a really strong Prybar to the list of important tools for this job. I would have really struggled without it

Hi John. I did this and the front suspension outside on my drive with axle stands. I actually removed the whole diff carrier and both the support brackets, which gave me much more room. I would agree with turning the drive shafts so they will lower further. Good job mate.

I Hope it helps Andrew. Quite physical but technically not too difficult.

I've tried to fathom out this task from the workshop manual in the past and it has always appeared to be difficult and fiddly. You video has again demystified the work on our cars. When needed, I will now have no hesitation in taking it on. It was interesting to see the remarkable condition of those foam pieces. Thanks once again John!

Great job John. You deserve great credit for doing this job, live on camera when you knew there would have to be a bit of fettling and joggling around and thinking on your feet to get the damper out. This is what youtube is great for, but most content is nowhere near as good or honest as yours.

My husband did this on our X300 only because the top isolators had disintergrated. He did not compress the springs as he completely removed the botton plate. It took him a day to do the first side but only 1/2 a day to do the other side as he picked up a few tricks doing the first side. He found that by rotating the axles so the universal joints were in a certain position gave him extra clearance. As he did not want to have to do the job again when the shocks needed replacing, he fitted new Bilstein shocks that unfortunately were softer than the Boge shocks he removed. Our X300 is a Sport model that has Koni front shocks fitted resulting in a very firm front end & a wallowly rear end. He hopes he does not have to do this job on our XKR but at least he is prepared & experienced should the XKR's shocks/isolators need attention.

The larger wheels would really benefit from this kit i guess? Interesting to see and hear about the difference noting it’s new v old obvs.

Great job John and thanks. I've noticed the spring red coat got seriously dented due to the prying. Any alternative or advice to avoid that?

When installing lowering springs, how do you adjust the alignment? Would have been great if they would have given us some adjustable suspension.
