I was looking at dent in box when you were looking a screw down as clamps! I fit plate real well to bike! p.s. your going to enjoy all the new bike storage but we'll see how the boxes deal with dings over time? Let us know! Thanks, Tim
Thanks for this video. I recently purchased this same box, but I still need to install it. My pannier key is 320, but my top box key is 340, so I'll have to carry two keys … 😕
My RE pannier keys are numbered 350 and I also live in San Diego so I won't be able to unlock your boxes if I ever come across your bike haha. You got lucky you have matching keys. Btw, RE pannier boxes are also made in China. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same exact manufacturer.
I did wonder if they were all made in China...I have not seen another Himalayan riding around San Diego yet it have you? Yeah i got lucky with the keys....
Jolly Peanut I have seen a black one with silver panniers. I have a black one as well but with matching black panniers. Btw, just ordered a black top box from Orion, hoping I’d get matching keys like you.
The rear rack is not weak, it is rated for a max load of 3kgs as stated in the bike's manual. It's probably a good design decision by RE. I wouldn't load it without reinforcement.. see @7:30 .. IMO offroad with a heavy top box on a light motorcycle is dangerous. On heavier ADVs it's not such a big issue cause the bikes weight can counter any force generated by any weight way up.
I believe RE should look in to beefing up the rack on future bikes as the Himalayan is marketed as a dual sport/adventure bike & we all know people who ride adventure bikes do tend to load them up & yes maybe over load them and Himalayan racks are known to fail. I just want to fix a future problem before it happens to me in the middle of no where. Also i am 260 lb in weight i do not think a loaded top box will have any adverse balance effect for me or at least i have never had a problem with counter force in my 35 years of riding, but your right people should consider this.
Thanks for the tip on the topbox. I was looking for one that would match the RE factory panniers. Price is great as well. You should get a commission because I think a number of these boxes will be sold because of your YT video. Regarding the locks, my pannier key is 350, so it appears the lock numbering is in the 300's and by 10's. Hope my box comes with a matching lock! Oh, I have just jinxed myself....
Thanks buddy...Ref keys i don't think there is many combinations with these locks so you maybe OK, it makes it easier having just the one key but no big deal either way
You.have to reinforce this rear OEM rack! It will break soon with the weight and vibration. The box + aluminum baseplate are already too much weight for the rack even with nothing inside. Take care with that. Cheers!!
Yes i know your right i do need to reinforce the rack, i plan on making some sort of reinforcement myself when i have some time to do it but i have to think about how i will do it first..the base plate for the top box is steel not aluminium so that is heavier than you may think....The rack is far from ideal on an adventure dual sport bike RE really need to address this issue it's a weak crappy rack...Thanks buddy...
@@JollyPeanut I believe there are aftermarket racks already on the market... maybe SWMotech or some like that. There will be many people facing problems with this OEM rack. Cheers buddy!! Nice ride for you!
Yes it is....Returning it is not worth the hassle to me, i expect i will ding it even more at some point in the future just through use, still if it was a new car or motorcycle with a ding like that then it would be a different story..
Fit the brace bars straight away as the rack will crack and you will have more than a little dent! Givi manufacture the best support kit and are readily available thru any of their dealers. Good luck
@@silktvPDR1 Thanks for looking but thats not what i need that is the givi plate for the givi top box , i already have a plate & top box. If i were to use these the rack will still break. I need support struts two of them they fit to the pannier frame to the rack supporting it, its a simple fix but those things are hard to find....Itchy boots found some but i have no idea where she got them...
@@JollyPeanut I think you are miss reading the adds, look at this on eBay it clearly shows the break down of parts and the bars are item 1. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F193064194442 You can buy with or without the plate you need to read the breakdown very carefully.
No ...I am not sure where these are available right now as where i got mine no longer sells them ,i guess its a stocking issue as these sell quick they are pretty good quality worth getting if you can find one.
If it is round & black with grey circle on top then that is a device i adapted & fitted i attach a selfie stick to that so i can get video footage from unusual angles. If that is something of interest to you then check out this video i show it in more detail. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5gaKQN1igRA.html
well i want to reinforce my rack with support bars as the racks are prone to crack although i have been unable to find any but they are out there...I keep heaviest stuff down low in my panniers & i use the top box for my cameras tripod & stuff that is not to heavy......For an adventure bike a 5kg max load on the rack "i have not checked the manual but i am sure your right" is not great so i do expect my rack to fail at some point & i will deal with that if or when that time comes...
@@eavyluca1 Check out "Itchy boots" her rack is reinforced the same way that i plan to do mine once i find out where i can buy the reinforcing bars...when i find some i will make a video on installing them.
Thanks for this video, I actually just ordered the black one (all that's left) to match my black Himalayan. Also just saw this reinforcement of the rear rack video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nMkXRse-jT4.html
