Today I'm putting new knives on my McCormick Deering #9 horse drawn mowing machine. Also from a few days ago, I am putting new sweat pads on the horse's collars and talking about how I like them to fit on my horses.
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horses farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

If I wanted to watch professional actors or speakers I'd watch TV, but I'd rather watch videos like these. You and your wife do a great job narrating your videos.

Thanks for taking the time to explain what you're doing, and more importantly - why. The mark of a good teacher. Thanks.

You're doing just fine with your explanations Jim, I can relate to that. sometimes my mouth doesn't say what my brain thinks. But so far I've understood all that you meant. so you're dong great in that dept. But the thing I keep taking away from all your video's is the relationship you have with your horse's. I've seen a lot of horses around their caretakers./ owners. and you can see the way they react to them. and you show a lot of love and respect for them and they in turn show it in the way they act when you are around them. They give back what they get. NIce!. and thank you so much for sharing that with us.

Sir, you have such great old time farm knowledge with animals that has mostly gone away and so nice to see someone with so much experience with farming with horses is not what we see

Hello Jim, My Grandpa had a team of Belgium whites and a team of Jack Mules. I get great joy out of remembering back to the horse's , the mules not so much. We didn't use them much, they were just kind of a hobby tor Grandpa. The horses were so big and gentle , they didn't kick.bite, nor would they step on us. On the other hand one didn't dare turn your back on the mules. My Grandpa died in 1952, that would have made me 12. I remember them like it was yesterday. 73 Ed

Very complicated making the correct fit. Easy to see how important the correct fit is. The better the fit the more comfortable for the horse. Explanation was easy to understand. Thank you for information.🐴🐴

Hi Jim i just watched your new idea of a draging logs and we once logged with horses and in the winter we used a bobsled and Dad had a special way of binding down loads which seem to work well . He used a bit longer chain and would loop it over the center log in front of the bunk and put the ends under the bunk bring up and to bind the load with a chain binder. We also had a angle iron on the bunk to cut down on slipage. Wish i lived closer hope this helps a bit.

Nice video. I'm sure it informed many viewers about how important the various pieces of harness/gear are AND that they need to be fitted to each horse. Thanks

Christmas in July!!!.....Your horses getting new Sweat Pads for their Collars. We had a couple of sickle bar mowers when I was growing up on the farm. We had a 7 foot New Idea mower that we pulled with an Allis Chalmers WC tractor, and then later on, we got a 9 foot John Deere mower that we pulled with an Allis Chalmers WD tractor. We would always carry an extra sickle, pitman arm stick, sickle guard, and special tools when we mowed. We had several backup sickle bars that were repaired and ready to go. We used the older not so sharp sickle blades for mowing roadsides and pastures. We would use the newer sharper sickle blades for mowing alfalfa. Good job explaining things Jim. You are a great teacher.
