Charlie, you are to hard on yourself. You are doing an amazing job at this. Very few people can do the on camera videos and then you the fact that you are learning this for the first time! Remarkable person and never forget it!
Loved the video, although a bit long. I like that you left all the setbacks and head scratching in the video, like real life (or my life). Keep it up! 👋👋👋
Brilliant, looked at one of these a while back but couldn't see anything to explain the fitting or how they worked, I was a bit skeptical of getting one but it seems to do the trick. Nice camera work.
Good fun! 😀You *could* also use a shred of an old bicycle tube, wrap it between the grip and its adjacent piece on the handlebars, and tie it just as hard as it takes to keep the twist grip from returning. Or, even return slowly, if you prefer that. No need to switch it on or off. It just works. I've used that simple system for many years, and it's quite safe, simple - and cheap. ;-) Has helped me a lot on my longer trips.
@@TheAncientBiker Yes, it does. And it works very well too. As I mentioned, I've not had any problems with that solution for over 30 years and many, many thousands of miles. It just works. ;-)
@@PeterPan-iz1kk My late husband used to do the same! He used to use old motorcycle inner tubes; he would use sections cut from these for almost everything. If it moved and it shouldn't, it got the band-cut-from-an-inner-tube treatment. I've never had the nerve to try them on the throttle though, although now I've got an arthritic right thumb, it's starting to appeal more....
@@sheilabiker1169 Cool! OK, you should try it! BTW, if you need company to ride with, I'd be there. Planning on going to the Isle of Man next autumn to see the Classic TT races there. All the best! 🙂 Mort
@@restdayrider your welcome and thank you 🙏 just watched you practicing your tyre repair… brilliant…. Brilliant I’m hooked lol so may have to get comfy to watch some more… you are a a natural… big thumbs up 👍
Have been ridding from the age of 16 and now 78, would never recommend a throttle lock, dangerous. Do enjoy your videos. Keep it up and your channel will grow.
Thank you, I found the throttle lock very good to be honest, you wouldn't rely on it but it was helpful to stretch hands. Worst case, dip the clutch! 😊
I'm curious how useful it is. Electronic cruise control adjusts the throttle as the road goes up and down. This would just hold the throttle at a set point. Seems like it would only work on very flat roads
Tried looking thru the comments for any updates and didn’t see any. Wanted to ask after having it for a few months how did you like it? Did it ever become annoying? Was reaching for the starter\kill switch any more difficult? I plan to get one for my classic 350 this summer before I go on a 2 hour trip one way.
Hi, I still think it's a great addition, and have had no issues with it and have used it lots on long journeys. It hasn't interfered with the start / kill at all. It's pricey, but really saves on hand ache. 😊
Bel esempio di una donna molto pratica. Personalmente penso che il dispositivo sia tecnicamente pericoloso perche' si basa sull'attrito che puo' variare con il caldo o l'umidita'. Io non lo userei. Complimenti per i tuoi video!!!
I totally get that, it's an experiment to see how much I use it on my tour. If I don't use it, it'll either stay there and not be used or get taken off and sold. It's all about finding my best set up.
Good job, this thing is definitely a bit fiddly to install. Love the video. How has it been working out for you and have you used it on a long trip? I put one on today but it’s chilly here near Boston MA so no test run yet.
Flippin' heck!!! £125!!! I could've made you one of these from a jubilee clip and a couple of self tapping screws. You'd probably end up in a hedge right enough, but you'd have saved some money and given us all a good laugh in the process 🤣
Hay guys if it works it works for a reason money has been spent in testing and developing it so it’s safe to use. You should know the old adage, ‘Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it’. It’s the best one that I’ve seen. Keep going with the videos really enjoy watching them, mistakes too😁👍
Great video! Just got my meteor same as yours until i saw this video hadn't thought about a throttle lock, did get a helmet lock you'd be surprised at what people will seal hope to get my crash bars and paniers installed tomorrow. whish the fenders and tank were chromed like the clastic oh well i need the forward controls my old knees don't bend like they used to. MLR
I love the making the tea bit, when it said " only two minutes to install". Once installed I think it is brilliant, it saves my hands gripping the throttle all the time. Great video, thank you.
Without doubt electronic cruise control is great for long boring highway rides. I had it on my Tiger 800 and it worked as well as any car system. I have been using a simple throttle rocker attachment on my DRZ400, but it requires that I always have my palm placing press on it. This unit looks to be a viable alternative.
@Rest Day Rider Cheers, Charlie, your channel is great. I really enjoy your adventures. Keep it going, young lady 👌 and thank you for your great work in the ambulance service.
Just fitted the Aliexpress version after seeing you use yours, what a faff lol! Fiddling in the garage for over an hour 🙂 Hope it works I ride an older Ducati and get a tingling after a while so hoping it will allow me to cruise while flexing my right hand.
"Well, that's off." :) I was thinking about getting such a thing after a review of it in another video. Now that you showed me how it is done, it is going to be this one. Thx, ride safely.
I always found these types of throttle lock devices are difficult to set, the bike is always accelerating slightly or decelerating slightly. Hard to find a happy medium..
Will it AT SPEED for periods of time with vibration loosen? I had one on a Honda 550Four years ago much simpler than yours that made a 2500 Mile Trip Bearable! RIDE SAFE!
I'm not sure, but the Allen key will be close at hand and if it does loosen, I guess it will just lose friction and decelerate, better than the alternative!
Top work there Charlie. On the actual fitment, could it be that the friction pad ought to have gone on the opposite side, i.e. the side nearest to the throttle? It looked to me like the way you assembled it you have it on the opposite side, where there wouldn't be any friction assuming the body stayed still on the bar, as you might assume it should?
Hey Bert, how can I make my metal disk with friction pad and clamp seem more high tech? Well Bob, I like to insert the word "flange"..... yeah that'll do nicely.
Glad you did this video, initially not because I wanted to be shown how to fit it! Me man, no need instruction!!!! I saw you mention this in one of your videos and missed what it was called, now I know, also, pmsl that you said you also like to work out how things fit. Also some good tips, especially about the friction pad. P.s. you can never have too many flanges. Lol.
Excellent and very understandable. Seen these very briefly mentioned before, but watching you get your head around it and fit it made the whole system very easy to understand. Hope there are some updates on how it's working out for you. As a Brit living overseas, I love the endless tea drinking.
