Thanks. Thought I was goin crazy. Will try to report back on my 2 dozen male ends with a new female milton.

I haven't had an issue after I found the problem fittings and changed them out. They had worn down sufficiently that they just weren't holding well, new fittings and I've been problem free for a number of years now!

I'm converting to v style couplers in my shop this week. I was planning on keeping m style on a lot of my low flow air tools. Now I'll be checking the m style male ends to see if they're gonna pop out. Thanks for this video.

The one coupler I showed in the video that tended to pop out is the only one I've ever had any issue with, I'm using all my other m fittings without any blowouts regularly. I took that one out of service and as long as the measurements are within reason of the good couplers they don't seem to have any issue popping out

Good idea to use a leader hose on impact tools, basically a 6" - 12" hose threaded into your tool with a male end on the other end. It will reduce wear on your fitting attached to your tool.

That's a phenomenal idea. Certainly can't hurt and would save strain on the longer hoses as well!

I bought a box of 20 pcs.(male fittings) from amazon.com the purple V style, they measure .468 and will not go in (Primefit UC1414FB6-B10-P 1/4-Inch 6-Ball Brass Female Universal Coupler) so I am thankful you put your measurements on your video as I was not sure, witch was wrong as I bought couplers female and male fittings at the same time , now I am sure I returned the wright ones

I use these fitting to avoid being hit with air hose with immense air pressure or even when im switching a tool.

FYI, Milton makes the V high flow fittings in both brass and steel. I think it's odd that the first kit I bought has brass couplers mixed with steel coupler connectors. I am putting all brass fittings on my primary connections.

You are absolutely correct. They also have aluminum in the colorfit line of fittings. I believe the female side of the couplers are steel but the male are all aluminum. I do prefer the brass fittings, they seem to hold up better but for a few rarely used tools I have some aluminum fittings and they seem to be holding up ok

I for the most part am convinced not to mix styles (keep M-style couplers with M-style plugs, G-style couplers with G-style plugs,V-style, V-style etc.). I'm even leary of the "U"- style "universal" couplers although I have some. As a side note,Milton makes a brass coupler that accepts M-style,V-style and A-style that I really like since most of my stuff is M and V-style.

This is why you need to get a high flow Prevost connector because this connector cannot whip around like those Milton connectors.

I've had this happen with universal style fittings.

The HF fittings are not built to be universal it's a smaller than standard proprietary size for their ends only.

Mmmmm, good to know. There is so much fragmentation between companies when it comes to little details like that.

Best to use only all the same style fittings to be safe,,,it's not that expensive to change them all out.

Very true. I like to use the high flow ends on things where power is needed and reuse old ends on blowguns and tire chucks, etc. In all reality I got a box of highflo colorfit ends for around $10, they're aluminum because of being colorfit vs the standard brass Milton ends, but I could easily put highflo on everything, and probably should.

I'm having this problem with a brand new brass coupler and fitting (universal). After a few uses my pneumatic hammer keeps shooting out of the coupler. Only working at 90 PSI......
@alisonjeancole
@alisonjeancole 4 года назад
upon inspection i noticed that the bearings in the coupler were wearing down the lip on the brass fitting!
@trythistv
@trythistv 4 года назад
Well that's no good. I've not had issues with the ball bearings in the coupler wearing down the plug, but I have loaned tools out and gotten them back and the plug looked like it went through a wood chipper, so whatever coupler they were using was not working well, it's possible the tolerances are off enough that it can't fully lock in and the balls arent engaging 100% or maybe the plug can rock around enough to cause wear? Another viewer suggested using short leader hoses that are attached directly to the tool and then the coupler/plug combo is moved a foot or so away from the tool so any jarring motion on the tool is absorbed by the leader hose. Worth a shot perhaps!

Basically which air compressor fitting should I purchase.....Please help me decided...TIA
@trythistv
@trythistv 4 года назад
Grab a set of these as a starter set: amzn.to/34AzUsw One coupler goes on your compressor, one at the end of your air hose, use the silver colored plugs on your tools, if you need more of the brass couplers for more hoses, its cheap to buy another set since you get extra plugs too. If you need a bunch more fittings because you've gotten more tools grab a box of these: amzn.to/2Z1Z4z8 You'll be all set with those!

@@trythistv just the info I needed. Thanks for the info! I think I will just switch out all fittings to the V style so I won't have to worry about the M style popping out. All my HF fittings are leaking and it's driving me nuts. So I have been looking to get good quality fittings that will last for years to come.

The T style does have a much more pronounced ridge to keep the fitting locked in place.

Get Prevost fittings. They are of high quality. Milton used to be good, now they are Chinese Junk.
@trythistv
@trythistv 3 года назад
I've looked at prevost before, and they look like nice fittings but good golly miss molly are they expensive, 20 bucks a fitting at least. I got a 10 pack of the brass milton couplers and a 10 pack of steel plugs (both the non colorfit, so 5 ball couplers and not aluminum plugs) for somewhere around 30-40 bucks. I plumbed my entire shop with Milton for what one hose would have cost with prevost. Sure, maybe I'll try prevost couplers at some point and be totally converted but man it's hard to justify spending so much more especially when the only problems I've had are from using worn out non-milton brand plugs in Milton couplers.

I bring no solutions only my grief.It happens all the time at my work ,causes a lot of down time,it drives me NUTS.Must be a huge money earner for the manufactures ,make em last for a short period of time and get repeat orders.

Man thats a real bummer. Any chance you could take measurements of the ridge I did in the video and see if there is any correlation to my findings?

There’s no such thing as universal. You can’t be all things to all people. Standardise on a name brand like RYCO or PEM and don’t mix thing up. Stay away from aluminium. Stavros

I've got brass couplers and steel plugs throughout my shop, The aluminum ones don't hold up good to shop style abuse, the steel plugs are great. I use V, M and one other kind randomly, most of my tools have all gotten switched over to the V plugs though. V couplers do OK with M and some others, so certain tools like blowguns and tire chucks haven't gotten switched to the V plugs. Works good for me, but its just me in the shop, if I had employees I would standardize everything, because some folks aren't bright enough to work in the sun without needing a flashlight.
