Bill prayed over Bentley saying he would be greater than Moses. So for Bill to act as if he just found out about the NAR shows that he is a liar and conman. Bill says the bible does not state that prophets and apostles are foundational to the church and are not in operation today. Just curious about Ephesians 2:19-2 speaking about the church being built upon Apostles foundation with Christ as cornerstone: "So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord." To me, it looks like Paul is defining these offices are particular to church foundation. The foundation has already been laid.
@Bldgrn034
@Bldgrn034 9 дней назад
Show me the scripture that shows the foundation has been laid forever? Because Paul states in 1 Corinthians 3:10,11 that he laid A foundation and that no other foundation can be laid besides that which is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the foundation and the only foundation that can be laid upon. He never said that he laid the only foundation and that it was done being laid. He only said that he laid A foundation. An Apostle is one who is sent by God. Apostles today I believe are sent by God to establish the church and build the foundation of a local church. It’s not about a title but about serving and bringing the glory of God to earth through Jesus as the foundation. To ensure that the church is built upon Jesus and Jesus alone. He also doesn’t state in Ephesians 2:19-20 that it has ceased operating. He just simply states that that is what the foundation is built upon. If you don’t have apostles and prophets in your church then you don’t have a foundation because apostles establish the foundation of Jesus, as well as prophets according to this scripture. No where does it say that they are no longer present… I also believe there is a distinction between the original Apostles who saw the resurrected Christ and Apostles in todays church. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t still present.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. There are specific qualifications for being an Apostle, i.e. personally interacting with the risen Lord and Bill fits none of them. “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain hopes. They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, ‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who stubbornly follows his own heart, they say, ‘No disaster shall come upon you.’” Jeremiah‬ ‭23:16-17‬ ‭(ESV)‬‬

There are no big “A”, apostles alive today. In other words Apostles that can write scripture. Not happening. There are small “a” apostles who are sent ones who have a calling to plant churches. They always use scripture to do this and build and plant churches. They build on the foundation. The gifts have not ceased, they are in God’s sovereign control. So God will make prophecy or tongues rare as He wills. We should be ok if we don’t see a particular gift because it’s not up to us. We don’t have to worry about that. We cannot teach them, they are given as God wills. All we have to do is keep Christ the center & submit to the sufficiency & authority of scripture. The Bible is the foundation laid by the Apostles & Prophets. We are not laying new foundations today. We go wrong when we idolize miracles and insist that there must be miracles. What we must insist on is that Jesus is the center & that scripture is how we discern and build. The Holy Spirit wrote the Bible and will never contradict the Bible. It’s always Holy Spirit & word, never the one against the other, or the one in favor of the other.

I personally believe continuing to refer to people by the title “apostle” given the current climate of the church (at least in America), will prove to be more hurtful than helpful. Not that I am denying the gifting of an apostle, but using the title without clear distinction - within the English language, that is - from the original Apostles of Jesus only will continue to leave people confused and either rejecting people who go by that title (with or without humility), or will by default elevate them to a status and a place of positional honor up alongside that of or close to the Apostles, though they ought not be revered in a such a way. I appreciated this video, but I would love to see more conversation about the language we use and how it affects our brothers and sisters, not to mention the lost. Saying someone, who is likely a pastor, has an “apostolic gifting” on their life, and then explaining what that means in practicality, rather than using the title outright just seems to prove more helpful. Also, I respect Bill’s sentiment in there not being a hierarchy, but as long as we use these titles, people will inevitably see it as such. All love and respect to my brothers and the leadership at Bethel. As well I’m open to discussion here.
@dandugo2020
@dandugo2020 Год назад
Honestly, I think that people now days idolize the original apostles to be something more than they were. I mean, look at the letters of Paul. There is no level 2 Christian and the very same Holy Spirit that lives in Peter, Paul, and the others lives in the believer that just confessed their life to the Lord 32 seconds ago. It isn't the man because God isn't a respecter of persons and the original apostles had no inherent special gift and the only reason they could do what they did is Christ living through them, it was God doing these things in mere men not super men.

Please speak to us more as newbies (because many of us are) -- there is too much insider nuance to this discussion. @Bornstella
@Bornstella 3 года назад
It would be good to actually address biblically exposited views that the office of the Apostle has ceased, or at least appear to be aware of it, from the authority of scripture. This series hasn't really cleared up misconceptions from what I can tell, but seems to just restate your views with no real rebutle. It makes you appear as if you're not really interested in the authority of scripture if you fail to engage with the tougher questions put forth by other leaders in the wider body of Christ. Yet this is exactly what the actual Apostles spent a lot of their time doing - correcting bad teachings from the scriptures (even each other!). Have on brothers in Christ whom disagree with you from a scriptural basis, someone like Costi Hinn, Justin Peters or even John Macarthur. This would seem to me to be following in the Apostles footsteps for a series addressing "common questions and misconceptions".
@paulkeniston5699
@paulkeniston5699 3 года назад
It would be good to present a scripture in support of your "biblically exposited view". Bill was very clear in decalring the Truth revealed in Epesians 4:13 that these gifts (among which are apostles) are given UNTIL " we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measuer of the fulness of the stature of Christ" This is quite clear and easy to comprehend. If the office of the Apostle "has ceased" then it can only mean "we all" have arrived unto the stature of the fulness of Christ. The fact that you are calling for a debate with your "other leaders" indicates our need in this present time for the ministry of Apostles, Pastors, Prophets , Evangelists and Teachers. Please....Bronson Bradley...provide a scripture to suport your claim that the office of the Apostle has ceased.
@Bornstella
@Bornstella 3 года назад
@@paulkeniston5699 It's like you're intentionally misunderstanding my post? "Support your claim that the office of the Apostle has ceased" is a fallacious statement, I haven't made that claim at all. I don't even believe that claim. The fact that you seem unaware and dismissive of biblically exposited views that state the office of the Apostle has ceased is exactly my point. You've only reiterated what the speakers in this video might claim. I haven't even begun to attempt to relay the view I mentioned, so don't try to come at me as though I am failing to support my apparent view. This video series is intended to clear up misconseptions about Bethel, in this case the office of Apostle, yet isn't addressing what those misconseptions are according to the authority of scripture and so fails to really clear anything up, just restate already held beliefs.

The scripture has "cleared it up" but your comprehension of this truth has 'failed' . I am no expert...so I will help you chase your tail on this around and around argument...a true apostle gives "no Place" to such vain babbelings.

@@paulkeniston5699 Oh gosh, my man, read the description of this video buddy. You keep saying and implying I have claimed to believe that the office of Apostle has ceased. I have not, specifically and intentionally. You fail to understand my post and even my response, and now venture to claim a holy-than-thou stance with your final comment. Such a shame. I can only encourage you to venture outside of your bubble to hear such opposing views. And so, although my original intent was not to present the opposing view, but speak to the effectiveness of this video series I still will leave you with these introductory snippets from said opposing view: Requirements to be an Apostle: 1. First person eye-witness of JC (Acts 1:22; 10:39-41; 1 Cor. 9:1; 1 John 1:1) 2. Directly appointed by Christ (Mark 3:14; Luke 6:13; Acts 1:2; 10:41; Gal. 1:1) 3. Ability to work miracles (signs) of the Apostles (Matt. 10:1-2; Acts 1:5-8; 2:43; 4:33; 5:12; 2 Cor. 12:12)
@Inharmonics
@Inharmonics 3 года назад
The likelihood of people like Justin Peters or John Macarthur interacting with anyone like these Bethel folk is close to zero. John Macarthur refused to even interact with Dr. Micahel Brown, let alone anyone like Bill Johnson. He does not regard charismatic believers as genuine Christians and thinks they have all blasphemed the Holy Spirit. Either way, I'm glad I've put the days of endlessly going through cessationist arguments long behind me. The Bible seems not to indicate the gifts have ceased, nor that the "gifts" of pastors, teachers...and yes, prophets and apostles - have ceased. Nothing in Scripture indicates a ceasing in the way I've seen it argued. By God's grace, I've also seen these realities for myself (not that everything claiming such is real, or that "subjective experience" counts for anything for certain branches of Christianity), and don't see any edification in looking for new complicated arguments as to why all of this is a deception. These RU-vid answers may not be enough for a certain intellectual, reformed dialectic, but that doesn't mean they're not good answers.
