Five Hours In, Slipways is Everything I Ever Wanted 

I love how personal this video feels (and how personally _excited_ *you* sound). Never was one for 4x strategies, but this looks like a great generalization of the concept, without a huge barrier of entry. It also looks very thouthfully crafted and balanced, which is always amazing to see in a game (means there's no one clear way of succeding, thus breeding creativity).

Have you tried Polytopia before? Full name is "The Battle of Polytopia". Basically a similar type of game. Where it's a mini 4x game that you can complete each game in one sitting. That game focuses a lot more on the last "Exterminate" part, but you should try to review it in your series.

I never knew an official Steam version of this game existed. I always came back to the Pixel version on Cool Math Games, and seeing it come to life as a 3D game is unbelievable and amazing!!

Oh neat! I remember this game's original Pico-8 release. It took me a second to recognize. I'm glad it got a full remake like this and that it turned out so well!

I was wondering how substantial this game was. I am actually kind of glad it's set up to be a bite-size score chaser kind of situation because it looked a little flat for something that was supposed to be longer. It almost reminds me of Dorfromantik in the nature of connecting things. I'm definitely feeling more inclined to check it out now. Also, you're about to hit 10k so that's awesome.

Hey, also Alex here :D And im sort of glad i found your channel. Im in that situation, ignoring covid i have 12h workdays due to my commute and quiet often signing up for a game like Pathfinder Kingmaker is a... nearly year long "Engagement". (Litteraly, finishing PFKM took me 3/4 of a year and that was with a mod that reduced kingdom events to 1d) . I now finally started playing witcher 3, in my style very slowly. Im enjoying it but its a slog... i just cant dedicate like 8h a day to a game, im lucky if i find 2.. Home office made that even more clear to me that i need to set aside free weekends where i finally can play a game WITHOUT having to constantly watch the clock. I heard a lot "you need to play game X" and such but.... quiet often those games just dont respect my time, and i simply dont play them anymore.

I hope this game further expands and bring more combat based gameplay. It would be fun to see how it will developed. They managed to make economy building a fun game in itself can't wait they put other factors into play.

Tbh i think its more of a ressource sim or civ builder sim than a 4x. 4x needs imo an opponent as counterpart as a mid to longterm goal. No enemy = city/econ sim Enemy = 4x/rts depending on playstyle Even the most pacifist/capitalist empires live from the interactions with other empires (except if you go isolationist). And the latest point you have to interact with other empires is during the mid/lategame crisis 4 x is a struggle for supremacy and can imo be simplified hard on the cost of roleplayability (which is the selling point of 4x imo, i want to play murderbots and turning every planet into a machine world etc.) Seems to be an interesting game tbh, will have a look at it. Reminds me a little bit about Islanders, a great city builder imo.

Have you play Northgard? I really liked it. It takes the basics of 4X and puts it into the interface etc. of an RTS game like Age of Empires II or Settlers III. To date it's the only 4X I've been able to remain focused on. It's really good. A map there will take around 1-1,5 hours.
