I have long hair myself. They give you a lot of confidence. Another reason is that long hair hide your face's imperfections and they give more symmetry to your face. You rock guys!
I'm 66 years old and have worn my salt and pepper hair long for about 20 years. I've had a pretty big (white) beard for over two years now. I've found that women will compliment me on my long hair while guys will compliment the beard. Yes, you do get noticed.
Great list.... I grew my hair out for 5 years while I lived in Hawaii. Sun kissed and natural highlights, all the ladies lived my golden locks. I cut it 5 years ago and now in quarantine I’ve decided to grow it all out again!!!!
Been waiting for this one. I have long hair and have no intentions of cutting it short. My reason for growing out my hair was to stand out. I'm a gym rat, and most gym rats have shaved heads. I've always wanted long hair draped over a solid set of shoulders and chest - ever since watching the movie Conan, seeing Arnold with his waist length hair pushing The Wheel of Pain. Through consistent hard work I have a mane, beard, and physique I've earned and proud of having.
So true! Our hair becomes a part of our identity and is a way of expressing ourselves. As a woman I’ve been told that once I reach a certain age I’ll have to cut it because older women don’t look good in long hair. Like, the day I turn 40 my beautiful, thick, healthy hair will just immediately become “tacky” 🙄. Welp, deal with it because I ain’t growing it for YOU! ☺️

Being Japanese, I have worn my hair long even before 'it became a thing', and the same for the manbun. Personally seeing it as a masculine thing, with Samurai having the knot, as well as a test of patience to properly grow it out. :)
rather interesting thing you said. Japan is rather particular about having everyone look the same. having longer hair does make one stand out a bit more.
I have been growing my hair out for around 5 years and I got used to the attention I get on the streets. In my case it is usually negative (people are often laughing at me or looking in a weird way) but honestly you get used to it.
If he had short spiky hair and he didn't have those head movements that you associate with women (people with long haird know) you wouldn't say that ^^
Actually Greg has quite feminine eyes as well. However, since the rest of his features are quite masculine looking, it counter balances that. The same goes for long hair and a beard, which are yin and yang. It's these extremes of yin and yang that make a look interesting to look at , as one can see these forces play out against eachother.
I've been growing mine for almost a year now and the fact that barbers as well as salons are closed is making continuing all the easier. May of last year I had gotten something of a crew cut and just let it go since with some trims every so often. I'd say currently my hair is similar in length to John Wick in the first movie. I definitely like the ease of maintaining point you mentioned. Since I'm not going to the office I work at right now I either throw on a ball hat or just hit it with some texture spray and call it. Takes a bit more time to get ready when I do have to actually go to the office though. My goal is to get long enough to tie it back in a pony tail so that I can drastically cut down my ready time on the morning.
I'm a man with long hair too. Or well, I've had long hair most of my life, but right now it's kinda medium length that I'm growing out, along with growing my beard out. I agree with all 5 points in your list! Here's another one: it serves as a warming scarf in the winter, and protecting my neck from the sun in the summer. I’m starting to bald at the crown only. I can’t wait to go bald. I use to shave my head in high school and love my hair buzzed but the wife likes it a little longer. When I go bald she can’t complain that I buzz my head haha. She don’t really complain that bad but I hate having hair. I got too many cow licks and hate dealing with it
I still have a lot of hair, but my hair is getting thin, specially at the hairline. I am letting it grow because it sill looks good, specially because I have wavy/curly hair, but I'm doing it just to enjoy it while I can, because I will be bald too. I went back to college, and I'm graduating in May at 38. I told my wife I would keep growing the top until I did well over a year ago. I only cut it underneath, and it's still almost to my chin.
Woah this is freaky... I woke up this morning and I was really down about my current situation.. Due to Covid-19 I've been furloughed. I am 30 and I only finished high school before Covid-19 I held the same job for 11 years and moved up the ranks but I never got to finish post secondary and I am always afraid that it's getting away from me.. because of my age ( I am also very unsure about what to study for..) anyways reading your comment today gave me an aspiration that it's still possible.. Long hair is the equalizer. By that I mean that modern shorter male hairstyles are done to address certain face shapes, to heighten or conceal facial structures. When long hair is pulled back from the face in a ponytail, for instance, the facial structure is revealed, good or bad---you can't hide anything, even recession. Short hair is artifice, long hair is the truth. When hair is pulled back, even if one grows it for years, the face will look the same. With short hair, even one months growth will change one's look facially. And actually pulling one's hair in a ponytail in hot weather is cooler for the head since it pulls the hair off the neck--not the case with short hair.

Long hair doesn’t work for everyone in the same way that it works for u guys. (You’re already good looking with or without the long hair, that makes the difference)

I have not haircut since before shutdown. It’s been real difficult to pomade it, so my wife told me to just it go natural last month. Actually, she has been trying to get me to grow long hair for years, but I wouldn’t do it. I afraid to let it loose because it would look bad, but she said that I would just get more attention than usual. I didn’t believe it, but oh man it’s too much attention now and a lot of compliments. The best compliments are from the guys because they are always more genuine. It helps that it matches my thick beard. It is new territory for me on handling all this hair, but I’m probably going to let grow long now.

Yeah with growing longer hair I'm spending a lot time trying to style my hair, putting product in it etc. And I don't have to worry about my hair getting messy if people touch it or if I have a hat on or when sticking a jersey on etc
Back in late 2018 early 2019 I saw Greg and Jimmy Q with there long hair it got me thinking and wanting to start my growing process. Then I watched this show on TNT called Animal Kingdom and two of the main characters had long hair and that’s really what made me decide to grow it out. My last hair cut was November 2019 and I’ve been growing every since. Haven’t had a cut or trim since then. Now it’s shoulder length and my fringe or bangs area is below my chin. But I’m thinking and considering going to get a little trim and some layers added in for some texture. Just nervous and skeptical to do it. Don’t want the stylist to take off any length or mess it up lol. But I have hit a spot where it doesn’t feel like or seem to be getting any longer just fuller and wider. Not sure what’s going on with it. Do you think if I got a little trim or layers or a little thinning done would help or make it start growing a little more again?
My local bar that I go to is called The Common room. If you're a male with long hair...you're not going to stand out. You've got straight male bar staff with beards and long hair wearing dresses for crying out loud! Lol. Every type of person goes there. If you're a reserved middle aged male...it may not be you're cup of tea 😉 🙂

I used to go to the barber shop each 3 weeks, now thats about 15 times a year at 25$. Its been 2 years now that I haven’t set foot in the barber shop, plus all the styling paste I don’t buy anymore, saved a bunch of cash.

Well I had thick long hair in my teens and 20s then bald on top but still have super thick hair on sides and back so I am letting what I got grow long I always have had big beard . my wife of 21 years have never seen me without a beard 😊
You guys have great long hair and beards. Mine is more like the guy with gray hair but I don't have a beard. It has been great growing out my hair for nine months now. I save money when but not getting my hair cut. That is a good reason to have long hair. I also enjoy the compliments. My hair isn't as long as either one of you guys but looking forward to when it is.
I'm going long now for the first time in my life (hair and beard). Last haircut in December, last beard trim in January. Both are kind of a mess right now. I'm not sure I would have made it this long if the barbershops were open. LOL

Just grow it out man. People make the same mistakes with beards....they KEEP TRIMMING them. Set the foundation by growing it out first, I'm going on 8 months or so with NO trim but I'm lucky to have wavy hair so it doesn't look half bad when I style it.

I had a civilian instructor in my naval intelligence school that had long silver hair that he kept in a low pony tail with a Thos. Jefferson style black bow at the base of his neck. It looked awesome. I promised myself that I would do that someday. The day I retired from the Navy my barber (who I had been using for a decade) asked me what I was going to do with my hair now that I was not beholden to regulations. I told her I was going to grow it down to my ass. She laughed and asked me if I wanted to know what I was actually going to do. Well, of course I did. She had seen generations of military men retire out and still manage their hair. She told me that in about 7 weeks I would be back and tell her to 'cut this sh!t off! because it would be touching my ears and neck. Or...if I toughed it out to 12 weeks I actually grow it out long. Guess where I was 7 weeks later... Having not had hair touch my neck or ears for 20+ years made it unbearable. Fast forward to 2020 (almost 15 years later), I had my last haircut the day before I got married on March 14th. I have not had a haircut since and it's growing nicely. MaryAnn was absolutely right. I have made a commitment to go for 2 years without a cut. It's already down to my chin when I flip it down in front. It does drive me crazy when I'm trying to work outside in the heat and it flips down in my face. So I have taken to wearing and Arab shemagh when I do and it works great. I'm looking forward to rocking my 58 year old salt and pepper long hair in style!
Now your contradicting what you said about products on your things you hate about long hair... You said its "way more products" now you say " less product" Make up your mind..
#5 is a big one, women constantly want to touch play with the hair. I have women just sit and play with all night. I think it actually boosts how they view you, especially as it brings them in close and now your cologne and extra hygiene work pays off.

When you guys talk about the history of long hair, you seem to always stop at hippys and completely leave out us metal heads. Heavy metal and long hair have gone hand in hand since the 70s. Surely that deserves recognition. Or are you purposely leaving it out because you hate the music? 🤨🤣🤘🏻
