I just read Once Upon a Broken Heart and I seriously thought I'd regret reading it. I'm currently on Legendary and I'm kind of glad I introduced myself into Stephanies world by reading it before Caraval. I swear it helps me understand Caraval in a perspective that people who read Caraval first cannot experience. I also find that I preferred OUABH over Caraval so I think that helped spur me along to read Caraval after so many years of putting it off.
Once Upon a Broken Heart was soo good! It had been so long since I stayed up to ungoldly hours to read a book in one sitting. I know people say that Evangeline is really naive, but I kinda find that endearing?? Like she gives me Rapunzel vibes.
exactly!! and she's YOUNG so it makes sense?? i sort of liked that the main character wasnt randomly amazing at strategy or suddenly has unparalleled political prowess even tho they've never left their home lol
Plus that’s her point! It’s not that she’s naive it’s that she wants to be optimistic like I personally love to see a character actively reach for her happy ending bc of this world full of fairytales. My only complaint is the pink hair lol idk that played too much into the “red hair” = protagonist trope, I think it’s perfectly fine if she were to be a brunette but I still love the book. Where’s the ya fantasy brunette protagonist representation 🙄
@@jimena6194 I don’t think her hair colour matters that much, and I personally love it because it seperates her appearance from so many other fantasy protags with natural hair colours. Also, there are so many ya fantasy protags who have brown hair, so the fact that you said that is honestly appalling because it’s far from true
I couldn’t tell Once Upon ABH was related to Caraval a first judging by the book cover design but I’m a huge fan of the trilogy so I guess I have to get this one!

IALSO HATED THE HATING GAME!!! I actually couldn’t get through it and tried to pick it up again, but I still couldn’t finish it :( There were moments when I chuckled, but stuff kept happening and I was like ? What is the motive? Why? Who? How? ??????
I went through it so quick and the AMOUNT OF TIMES THIS WOMAN WAS DESCRIBED AS PETITE OR HE WAS DESCRIBED AS GINORMOUS is insane I hated it. Like she’s what 5’2? That’s REALLY not that short the avg is 5’4 and while it’s fine a couple times to mention at first they mention it in every smut scene 💀

The Haunting of Hill House book- never read it, but when you were describing how the house was haunted, it reminded me of a series I read called Dream House Kings (book one is House of shadows..., I think?). Great series, the house has that odd, spooky nuance that you described for the haunting of hill house.

i linked the book but it’s disappointing in comparison to the series imo. mike flanagan and team did an incredible job in expanding shirley jackson’s original work! the hauting (1963) is a film which is great and also the most faithful adaptation. i’d still recommend reading the book for sure though, i hope you like it!!

I loooooooved The Anthropocene Reviewed. I really recommend the audiobook. John himself reads it, and you can hear his feelings about everything in his voice. I'm not usually a John Green fan, but my friend wanted to buddy read it, and I'm so glad I agreed to it! One of my favorites of the year.
I would also recommend the audio book. How many times did you cry? Because I think I must have cried at every second or third essay. If someone wants a free sample, John also made a podcast with the same name and some of the essays are similar.
@@ninamarie177 So many times! The ones that really got me were Auld Lang Syne and the endangered birdsong, though. Those two and a couple others have really stuck with me.
I'm currently reading #3 in the Amber in the Ashes series and oh my god, I'm deep in it! I read through the first 2 books SO quickly, I am well hooked on it. I'm so glad to see the last one came out in August, so I don't have to wait when I finish this one xD

i love kurt’s artwork, the colours in that one are my favourites! also you should definitely watch the netflix series of the haunting of hill house. it’s the best adaptation i’ve ever seen - different to the book, but much richer. also i finished if i had your face last month and i loved it so much!!
If you’d like a good who-done-it type of book, I recently finished the first and second books in the A Good Girls Guide to Murder series and am very eagerly awaiting the third book.

i read once upon a broken heart in the middle of a reading slump. I finished it in ONE SITTING, and the next day i read the second book in one day. Truly my favorite series of this year
People we meet on vacation took me out of my reading slump, it was a great way to mentally escape from day to day routines. Made me felt like I was on vacation!
I clicked on this video because I saw the cover of If I Had Your Face! And imagine my happiness when you made all these kdrama references 😍 have you seen Hello My Twenties ? It’s a 2-season kdrama and If I Had your Face reminds me so much of that drama! I can’t wait for Cha to write another book 💯

I understand the stress of reading stories based on places you’ve spent a lot of time. I tried to read a book that was set in San Diego and it was hard to get through the book because I’m like that’s not even how it is.
Oh my god, I also felt so dehydrated while reading People we Meet on Vacation! Even in the flashbacks the drink so much sugary alcohol in the sun that I got a headache.
Just got History of Wild Places and can't wait to start!! (Thank you btw., for discovering Shea to me through Winterwood) And People We Meet On Vacation was my summer read and it had me giggling every time it mentioned Croatia because that's where I'm from, but I agree with you that it was cute, just one too many flashbacks. I'm currently binging Christmas books but have yet to find THE one.

Thanks for the reminder to read The Love Hypothesis! I just finished it last night and I’m a little overwhelmed with feelings still! I really enjoyed it. And I loved hearing from the author in the back of the book. I recommend reading the Red Winter trilogy by Annette Marie. It’s one of those series I go back to and wish I could read for the first time again.

I love that part of manga when manga authors add those cute interviews, little bios, behind the scenes etc at the end of the chapters. I'm also reading a manga, Jujutsu Kaisen, something I was avoiding but I'm so enamored I can't wait for the next season of anime I need more. Tbh this month I've mostly read manga, at the same time watching a Lot of anime again for the first time since I was a teen. I'm also very excited to read Shea Earnshaw and it's raining here too, global warming.. depression (weather kind).
I just read the first book of this series - The Bone Witch Rin Chupeco and I was in tears with the standalone Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet - Charlie N. Holmberg. The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg is a sweet romance. All of them are worlds with magic.

Since the first time you talked about Leaksedge, I was excited to read it. And I actually did it during the spooky season, but unfortunately, it did not do it for me. But I can't pinpoint what throw me off, because I really liked the setting, the gothic vibes, and the creepy god. However, during the actual reading, I notice myself slowly losing interest in the story/characters. I think I would like it more if the characters were adults? Idk, it is stupid because I was very aware that this was a young adult :(
I love that painting that Kurt hates. I'm going to pretend his aversion to it is due to post-wisdom tooth removal. I had mine out many, many years ago and I didn't swell, there wasn't any pain. I just wanted to sleep for days and lost my appetite for three months. I love the way you hold the books your talking about. It helps a person imagine themselves holding the books too (if that helps in deciding whether or not to get a tangible or digital copy).
I always forget The Hating Game has smut...even though I've read it THREE TIMES. I think it's because my favourite parts are the humor and silliness, and a lot of that takes place before the smutty scenes. Having forgotten about the smut, I almost recommended the book to my mom and was like - wait...never mind lol.

A tip with maybe finding some romance that fits your taste more - look up “Closed Door Romance Books”, I feel like you might find more titles if those scenes make you uncomfortable! 💖
**spoiler. I liked people we met on vacation but I was annoyed that it took 10years to admit to their feelings. Guess it was super slow burn. I loved the hating game and am so excited it’s going to be a movie! Enemies to lovers at its finest!
