Thats crazy that just fixing the jaw made her look more like the orginal picture. The drawing was super good tho and could be easily fixed with some of the praportions.
Very helpful information...the student pulled of a good resemblance; 1 more suggestion in this case: the nose is not quite long enough; which put the mouth too high. Overall, though, a good job and solid resemblance!
in short: 1- center line of the face 2- angle of the jaw 3- value shift and forms 4- tilt of the features 5 where is the white going but don't call me a hero to have saved your time
This one tip... I am crying right now.... I used to cry before too..... After putting so many hours.... My drawings looked nothing like the reference...... Now once after watching this..... I tried with a Ellen Pompeo smiling face (pretty tough reference )... I am now crying again...... O my god o my god o my god..... It looks exactly like her..... I wish i could show you...... My first time ever where my perspective are correct.... Such a huge huge huge eureka moment in my like.... This is phenomenal.... I drew it on a cardbord box as thats what i got hold in a hurry...... Now my momentus art in on back of a cardboard box.... I really wosh i could show you...... I cant even describe the happiness and inspiration it brings to my art journey...... Now i feel its a huge huge milestone...... I wonnnnnn.........
I’ve been watching you’re channel throughout the past several years. I’m very glad to see you still make content. You’re channel has helped me grow so much as an artist ever since high school. Thanks!
Hi Matt. Thanks for these wonderfully clear and informative videos. I'm loving the challenge of portrait drawing and I know these tips will be super-helpful in creating a likeness. Awesome.
What you've said is correct. What I still see problems with are the overall proportions. How can someone be careful to capture the spacing of the features quickly and accurately? I'm personally very good at capturing likenesses but it takes a short eternity.
This is the only Tutorial, wich actually taught me to draw faces. The method I always used, like draw the head proportions first and then the face turned out, to be completely wrong for me. This method to first draw the face and then measure the other things made my art much better than before.
I Thankyou for your video, I am an oldy trying to learn to draw well (and properly)🤔 your video is a great tool and has valuable and is well presented👍 I am going to give those tips a go, Thankyou
So usefull... because even if you know this things happens to neglect or forget one or another chasing all those details instead of a healthy block in... so such a list could help me a lot, as beginner. Many thanks!
I'm doing 31 ink portraits for Inktober and they look nice, but not much like the subjects, so I came looking for some help. These tips are great, and I will be putting them into practice from now on. Thank you!
This was terrific. Honestly, it's a pretty good likeness. I can tell who she is and it's just a little bit off but your tips are super helpful in figuring out why it's a little bit off and explaining how to make it better. I'm constantly frustrated when my likeness is almost but not quite there and now I know exactly where to look to figure it out. You grabbed a sub.
I started to watch this and was shocked when he said my name and that I'm a member. I immediately thought how RU-vid is now introducing customized videos. Well surprise surprise. It's a different Arjun. For real, Good video. I learned a lot.
I will have to draw my portrait after many years without practice, for a school project, and I have to thank you really much caus' this will help alot 😊 I didn't know alot of these tips, I used to draw portraits differently and I'll try yours which looks quite good ☺️ Big thumbs up, thank you again ! 🙏🏻
Great tips! One incidence of the center line being off on the sketch is that the distance from here right eye to the edge of her face has become larger than the one of her other side. Said otherwise, the sketch has been done mostly as if the model was facing us completely whereas the original photo shows her face is slightly turned away to the left (her right).
Good video. Many can draw . But many drawings lack accuracy and balance. All the elements in the first drawing are well drawn, but angle and placement are inaccurate which is obvious to the experiences eye on first viewing . One tip that the artist might want to use is a mirror behind him to view both the image and the drawing simultaneously. This would have shown him the differences. Good video.
@Becca B hey ,if anyone else is searching for how to draw amazing pencil portraits try Loctavan Amazing Drawing Strategy (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cousin got cool success with it.
1, centre line of the model’s face measuring tool, tip of the nose to the left and right centre of the forehead to the tip of the hair 2. the three angles that make up the jaw. 1, ear to jaw - 2, jaw to chin - 3 chin to chin 3. avoid stark contrast for the skin tone, use similar values. less information is best. 4. pay attention to the tilt of the head. (draw a straight line, go to pupil to pupil/corner of the mouth) 5. White of the eyes are import. think of them as abstract shapes.
