Less than a week to go until travel restrictions are lifted here in the UK and the long wait has ended allowing us to get out fishing. This video is squarely aimed at those that may be thinking of venturing from their local fisheries to some bigger venues. There can be no doubt that fishing from a boat can be very productive as well as a lot of fun. Before you pack the car for a long trip make sure you check out this video, I am sure it will help you be prepared for the journey ahead.

Hi Lindsay Regarding taking waterproofs in the boat,I would echo what you are saying and add that you should also take extra warm layers as well. Here is a true story:- a few years ago one of my friends went on a club outing to a very famous Scottish Loch ( Loch Leven). The few weeks prior had been a heatwave with temperatures in the 25-30C degree range so he had set off with only a short sleeve shirt with a very light pullover and nothing else. After fishing for an hour or so, the Loch became enveloped in an East Coast haar and the temperature dropped by about 15 degrees with the result he rapidly became very chilled. As the club had car shared on the journey to the Loch he had no option to go home early so was forced to stick it out. At some point he decided a nice hot cup of tea would do wonders for his moral, only to find that out of consideration for the weather at home his wife had filled his flask with chilled orange juice. Since that day I have never gone fishing without warm clothes and waterproofs. All the best and tight lines when you get back on the water. Up here we’ve a few more weeks to go.

A few more vital additional bits. Eye protection preferably polarised. Sunscreen. Mossie repellent. A drawstring bag for rubbish Everything from food packaging to discarded leader material. You find it take home. Wet wipes, hand gel, micro fibre cloth and hand towel ideally one with a clip like a golf type towel. For wiping kit down and hands after handling fish. Basic first aid kit. To cover minor injuries. Small cuts. Hooks from fingers. Splinter removal. Stings and bites.

Nice one Lindsay. If you get a chance later in the year a video on controlling the boat and steering with a drogue to hold the line of a boat on a drift would be really helpful for us bunch of amateurs. Thanks for the tips. 🎣👏👍

I've been using the same boat net for 12 years and it's not even got a rip in it, Diawa boat net with a screw on head and it's absolutely solid I will be sad to see it go in 20 years as they don't make it anymore.

I hate that when something you have loved using is no longer made. The Wychwood one is decent though.

@@lindsayiflyfish I think all my gear is discontinued, used everything to fish for Scotland internationally and I had no plans on replacing anything, but now my rod is cracking and reels are rusty. Sad times.
