Just tried this on a 1993 Ford Ranger. Worked perfect. I had already bought a new fuel pump but had'nt installed it yet. I only hooked up the connector in order to test the gauge to see if the new sending unit would fix the problem but it didn't. found your video & gave it a try. AWESOME. I'm taking my fuel pump back right now. thanks a bunch.
for those that cant get their gauge fixed. start with a full tank of gas and your trip gauge set to 000 then drive 50-100 miles and refill the tank. take the miles on your trip gauge and divide by the amount of gallons used. that will be your average mpg. find out how large your fuel tank is. say 13.7 gal tank and 21.846 mpg. multiply those and in this instance the total average miles per tank would be 299.2902. so about every 250 miles in this example would be safe to refill without getting stranded. hope this helps someone
Hunter White how did u fix ur Ranger?? I have a 2000 manual Ranger, gas gauge reads more than full but I.t never is lol. When i bought I.t i thought i got I.t with a full tank, i was happy
Eskeetit Gang welp I bypassed the slosh detector... my slosh detector actually had a burnt and melted spot on it tho. I made a resistance substitution switch. Found the wire under the hood that comes from sending unit to the cluster and that's how I figured out the slosh detector was bad but it was my sending unit As well. the only thing is I try'd to get out of it cheap and rebuilt my sending unit with parts from a newer truck that I had just stripped and junked and it worked for a couple days but I did somthing wrong it died so I'm back to putting 5 6 gallons in and going 70 miles lol. But ur's being stuck on full all the time..... hmmm when I was experimenting with mine the only way I could get mine on full was by grounding out the wire that sends the fuel level message to the gauge so your getting grounded out somewhere I would say. but I think the slosh detector could cause that aswell if it not working properly so try bypassing that taking the bed off to get to the sending unit sucks hope that helps!!
Thanks so much for making this video, the fuel gauge on my 1990 Mustang GT has been reading E for the past year. Followed your steps and worked perfectly. Thanks again.
Cheers on the bypass I bought a SN95 GT 5.0 V8 bout 2 months ago with the Gas Gauge Not working, Till this morning tried out your instructions step by step, turned on the car and we got lift off, got a good half tank in right now, thank god I didn’t have to drop the tank, thanks so much!
One more thanks for this video. You saved me a lot of money by posting this! Your fix worked great on my 1994 Mustang GT. The gauge was stuck at ¾...sometimes it would go to ¼.. I was planning to replace the sending unit until I saw you video. Thank you!!
Thank you, just picked up an older mustang and this did the trick. I used a staple as a jumper pin and doubled up the electric tape then boom I could read the gas levels again. Saved me tons on money and time.
How has it held up? Have you left the staple in there the whole time? Thinking about doing this for my 2000 mustang gt that just suddenly got stuck on E.
@@xkristoI ran it like that for a few months, but I eventually just fixed my gauge. I needed a new fuel pump and replaced the level sensor while I was in there.
my fuel guage would slowly drop to empty for a couple of days and then just didn't work....tried this on my 97 mustang gt and now it works...thank for the video
Maaan this tip was so helpful! It worked on my 1990 5.0 LX Mustang which saved me $166 from the dealer or having to go to a junk yard and guessing if I got a good one... THANK YOU!!!
hi, this is my story: 10 mins ago, a dissasembled my cluster, remove the module, and do the same job. But, when i turn the key on, the gauge fall the way down (low fuel doesnt came on) AND, i remove the bypass wire and let the piece of tape on the 3 terminals. When i turn the key on this time, the gas gauge works!!!!! I have 1996 Taurus, i believe on all 3 gen Tauruses gas gauge could be fixed with this procedure. Thanks
This vehicle and other Fords in this era doesn't use a voltage regulator for the gauges. He is correct although the factory service manual calls it a slosh module.
@@solflores9649 no not yet. I might just go aftermarket. It's been a while but I put a jumper on those 2 spots and no dice. The circuit is pretty flimsy. I'm happy to be able to drive ir
Hey guys, don't need to bypass this. I modified one to work fory boat fuel gauge. Anti slosh works wonders. All you need to do is replace the 100uF 25-35 volt electrolytic capacitor. Replace the LM2902 which often goes bad with the improved version LM324. Both parts are at Radio Shack.

My covering the module will it affect anything else on the cluster? I have a 1988 mustang gt and I already changed the pump and sending unit and it still doesn't work
Sadly, does not work for for 2001 4.6 power train. It's the exact same module but it's tied to the CPU. Is that the difference ? Don't know without a wiring diagram.
Hey man, thank you for the video, i have a 91 mustang and it has a brand new tank, new sending unit and pump that i installed like 2 years ago and i have this same problem, im gonna take my cluster out and try this,i have suspected for a while that its the slosh module thats causing me grief cause it always reads empty.
hey i had a ford range doing the same fuel problem, repaire it by removing the bed , r/r fuel pump and replaced the brass float, the old one was half full of fuel problem fixed.
Thanks for the video. Mine is a 1990 E-150 Luxury Van and the Anti Slosh Unit is different than yours, it's a little rectangular shaped can that sorta looks like a mini metal capacitor with rivets on top that make contact with the plastic circuit board, Not sure how you're supposed to replace that unit since it's riveted (I tried to unscrew the rivet looking discs thinking that they may be threaded but they didn't budge), I soldered a piece of wire across those two rivets and now my gas gauge works again. The gauge doesn't move fast anyway so it seems like that anti slosh unit was pretty much useless anyway. And what a pain in the butt it is to replace burned out bulbs in the dash since I have to crawl under the van after jacking it up to give the speedometer cable some slack before I can remove the cluster, no way to get my hand under the dash either. Poor design on that one eh?! Thanks again. :-)
Uh......not sure why I didn't check the other gauges after doing this fix but the temp gauge and the oil pressure gauges are now pegging out. It turns out that the can looking thing I soldered is actually the instrument voltage regulator. Also, the circuit board that you taped over is a newer style of instrument voltage regulator as well. It's not an Anti Slosh Circuit. The gas gauge has an internal Anti Slosh circuit in it and that's a Ford part (can't be purchased After Market, at least I haven't been able to find one). So, if your other gauges are not indicating properly, it's the voltage regulator being disabled. That regulator pulses a 5 volt signal to the temp sensor and the oil pressure sensor and maybe the gas sending units but I'm sure sure yet about the gas gauge sending unit yet.
Didn't work for me. Do you have to go for a drive? My 96 mustang is always showing empty, but occasionally when I first start it it'll move to about half. Can anyone help?
My 1990 F150 has this problem, pulled the cluster out and my slosh Gauge looks different. Has 5 prongs but not sure which ones to cover. Looking at the board from left to right the prongs touch GND, IGN, SIG, ENG and IGN so not sure which to block and which to jumper. Any help would be appreciated as it is all tore apart and I want to get it fixed and back together. Thank You!
I tried it on my 97 ford ranger 2.3 and had the same problem as the 96 taurus guy . Except in my case it ether went passed full ( with tape over 3 prong and the jumper wire installed ) and stayed. if i take the jumper wire out with tape on the 3 prong it stays at half tank. i know it is not anything in the tank because it was all replaced before i bought it and the fuel gauge just started to read on empty all the time . any idea were i can get a wiring diag. for this anti. slosh .
Do you know if this would work on a 96 Ford Courier (AKA MAZDA BRAVO) 2.6? It has similar problems. When i take the fuel pump out and manually move the float it reads, But when i put it in the tank where it's suppose to be it doesn't. I Have almost a full tank of gas and it started working, I turned the key off and let it sit for awhile came back and turned the key and it dropped to empty and now sits there. I've double checked that it's not catching on anything and that all the wires are connected properly but no luck.
I have the same problem on my 1065 ford f100,, new unit works just fine on the outside but not when installed,,, reads 0,,, any help greatly appreciated,, ole fart Jimmy (jimhaley42@wcc.net)
Anyone know if a 1998 Ford Mustang has this Anti Splash? I'm having the same problem but I can't seem to find out if it has the Anti Splash. I would really appreciate it.
Hi thanks for the vid! i have a 2000 ford cougar same problem, do you know if this car runs the same type system, and can it be fixed this way? again thanks for all your help
i have a 1999 ford mustang and everytime i fill it up it stops so i think its full but when i turn on the car it reads only up to the quarter before full so its off by a quarter of a tank any way i can fix that? the most its gone was 133 idk if that actually how far it can go someone help me
lol i wish i saw this video the other day.... the anti slosh module in my 1994 ford ranger i found it was toast using a "resistance substitution switch" i made earlyer and bypassd it the same way. but if i had seen this video the other day i wouldnt have been chasing wires for half the day.
I have a 1986 ford bronco and my fuel gauge reads full when the tank is full but when it gets to 3/8 it drops to empty. Do you thinks I need a new sending unit or is it the gauge?
Would it be the same thing for a 04 ford freestar? It's my mom's van and the stupid gauge reads empty all the time also and I wanna give her a hand with it so she doesn't have to take it to the shop.
Well mine seemed to just start working all. Of sudden for the past week its been moving while i do not trust it fully it goes to full when fill up tank and was moving all week it got down to a lil below quarter tank ingot gas today went about 220 miles think i could went more but it was pounding rain didn't want to run out. Sorry no clue why it wasnt working and now it is
Vehicles NEED that "slosh module" so gas needle doesn't move when you accelerate, decelerate, turn corners when driving!!!! REPLACE, by BUYING NEW ONE, IT IS ONLY CORRECT SOLUTION. BETTER THAN HAVING GAS GAUGE READ EMPTY ALL THE TIME!!!!
Will try this on my 92 Ford Ranger tomorrow cause switch off it reads a quarter tank but soon as u turn the key it drops below empty. I also have first morning start issues, the pump doesn't ever shut off an I have to crank an crank it while pumping the pedal b4 it starts, runs rough but after about 15 minutes it pukes an runs like a new truck an fires right up rest of the day,any suggestions??
my 95 Lexus always reads empty. it doesn't go up or down. the light doesn't come on until its actually low on fuel but I gotta break down to find out when it's out of gas... I learned the hard way lol. had to push the car for half a mile before I reached a gas station. any advice???
+yg grind haha pushing is no fun. I don't know anything about lexus specifically, but if the light comes on, that suggests that the sending unit and wiring is good, so my best guess would be trouble with the gauge.
@yggrind5050, Yeah, my advice is if you're able to buy a "Lexus" you should have enough dough to replace the part & have it fixed the right way at an auto repair shop, don't ya think? IDK maybe it's me, but... C'mon Man! WTF 🤔 I mean it's not an Escort it's a f%$king Lexus. 😁
@@216Numbskulllol, you're replying to a 8 year old comment,he probably doesn't have that car any longer, ha ha ha, hell he might not be alive anymore, on the other hand you can buy a beater Lexus anyday, they are all over the cheap car lots, that might have been his case.
I have a 93 Ford ranger and I did this and thought it was working it was reading past full but as soon as I plugged up the other plug to the left side of the dash the gauged went back to E... no clue whats wrong with mine
epoweredrc Ever find out the issue? I bought a '90 F-150 a few months ago and the needle reads 1/4 tank when off, but I turn it on, it reads E regardless of amount of gas. I bought it for $900, it's my daily driver, and I'm not really looking to spend half of what I paid for it, to just fix the needle.
comicbookprodigy995 You and epoweredrc both probably need a float for the fuel tank. My local Dealership sells just the float for around $14.00. They are made of a thin metal, or plastic, and will crack. This allows gas to enter them, and show a constant empty as the float sinks. Hope that helps.
These modules are famous for having burnt traces or traces that are missing parts of them going to a critical spot so circuit board cleaner is not gonna do much in those cases.
I have a small truck- 94, Ford Ranger, with its gas gauge always reading empty. But I noticed that the needle went up to a quarter tank when I had to get a jump start form another car. Would you know if that indicate anything specific before diving in?
Ant Bibik worst case scenario it ruins the wire that's connecting the two terminals on the right, the electrical tape just blocks an electrical connection. I don't imagine there's very much power going through those terminals anyways, just be sure to use a good wire and you'll be okay
does it matter what color/kind of wire to sue for bypassing the anti slosh module? also, very important question,by doing this quick procedure of yours shown in this vid, will this AT ALL cause any kind of back fire with a spark??? i want to try this neat swifty trick, but also i want to be safe.plz answer me,my gauge is messed up.
ty for responding back so quick! problem: the nob i oull that turns the headlights on is blokcing me taking the dashboard out.how'd you make it past that? last yr i had to pull fuel pump,it was gone.in the process taking it,i knocked off the floater, placed it back on cpl diff times.ever since then, gauge doesn't work.is the issue coming from the fuel pump area or the front dash board area? I'm so sick guessing how much gas i have all the time.i want this thing fixed.
Ben Sherman try what?? is yours not working? mine was an 87 ranger and it was the floater. It had a hole so the gas would keep it down it wouldn't float to the top.
i fix mine.. the Ballon in the tank that goes up and down.. is need replace.. to much off road and car bouncing... hahah i fix my problem.. stupid ford
@@travisorth9933lol, to some people that are not mechanically inclined like us something like this module repair or a jumper wire equals brain surgery to us, be patient, lol
