I am renovating my lawn. There was too much poa trivialis in the lawn for me. I was not able to take it any longer.
The first step is to kill the existing lawn using a non-selective weed killer. This needs to be done several times in order to get all the bad grasses killed off.

“I see it, & that’s what matters to me.” Reminds me of a few years ago before my dad passed, remodeling his living room, 12 foot high 2 ft wall insert ledge where a statue sits, wasn’t level from before. Everyone said, nobody can see it, they’ll never know. I’ll never forget him saying “But I’ll know.” So he spent a whole day fixing a 1/2 inch drop over 2 ft ledge. Thanks Connor for being like that.

Not very likely to work as I'm in South Florida, but idk. I have a few spots of rye that I missed spraying and it looks awesome. It's crazy dark and it was cheap Scotts seed. I will try that in the back. And maybe sprig Bermuda in the front. My poor men's zoysia can't handle the drought. And I can't handle the water bill lol.

The only way to deal with poa is by using pre-emergent. He'll end up with poa again because killing the plant doesn't kill the seeds still in the soil. Getting rid of poa is a 2-3 season problem where you treat the area with pre-emergent in late summer or early fall. Then in the spring, you apply pre-emergent again. Follow that up with another treatment in the fall, and then again the next spring. Since the lawn he just killed was replanted after killing the previous lawn, if a glyphosate treatment was going to work, he wouldn't have poa in the current lawn - but he does because he had carry-over poa seeds - just like he'll have again.
@evank2035
@evank2035 Год назад
@@buckhorncortez he'll have POA annua again and again unless he does what you suggest but what he's doing will get rid of the triv at least, which is arguably a bigger problem. Hopefully he starts using fall pre-emergent over the next few years.

I’m battling Poa as well. The problem is the seeds that the plant drops. I did a test and kept a section dead all year and was blow away at how much poa kept returning after completely nuking it. I’m continually killing whatever geminates hoping all the poa will eventually germinate and die before it produces more seed. I’m starting to think a sod cutter would be more affective to remove seeds and the plant. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Good lord. I just sprayed Gly (41% concentrate) and used the recommended 44oz/acre. You used 1.5x that on 1/5th the area. You're lucky you weren't spraying anything with a residual. You'll be fighting Poa as long as the birds fly and wind blows - if your neighbor has some, you'll get it, not to mention the seed bank in your yard already. Why not look into pre-emerge solutions or plant a grass variety that out competes it? Creeping bent grass seems to stay pretty clean for most golf course greens, as long as they don't over fertilize.
