hello there mine is beeping when i opened it this arm was in park position wasn't stuck i started it with open cover the arm goes into work position and start acting crazy ? how can i fix this

I just fixed one today by unscrewing the pcb on the bottom (using a T6 torx screwdriver, important to use the exact bit) and cleaned the main board contact of 3 wire contact ovals with a simple pencil eraser - it was green and corroded and worked fantastic after cleaning it back to shiny gold, also a little gentle eraser cleaning on the pins that meet these contacts. Always clean off the corrosion over the years and it might start working again. Maybe the humidity got to it over time?? Also used a rechargeable air duster to remove all dust.

What if the head is in the home position when you remove the lid, but there’s still a clicking and beeping sound with the lid on?!

Thank you for the clear and precise video. My Seagate drive has a round indent in the center of platter, so torx driver is not usable. The platter is secured with a group of torx screws around the center hole. How can I rotate the platter as I move the head away ? I have drive open and see what needs to be done, but I don't want to move the head without rotating the platter counterclockwise. I have researched this issue and see a couple of users with Seagate drives with the same situation, but I have not come up with a resolutions. Many thanks.

It's very useful tutorial but my one slim drive has an errors issues that drive size is 500Gb whenever I use Avast Premium Cleaner software to Chkdsk drive C then it shows that found errors need to fix it restart your system after restarting scan disk runs for a while later on system on windows normally no issue but when I just want to assure to myself that all errors must have been fixed As such I rescan disk Check errors by using Avast Premium Cleaner so again the same message shows like glaring errors needs to fix it on restart now or later so kindly tell me any solution to resolve that problem. My man! Out of the 20 or so videos I watched I think I kept referring to your one the most so thank you for putting your knowledge out there. Success for me but I don't know what was wrong in the end, unlike in your video the arm /needle of my drive was sort of parked, the heads were parked but part of the arm was still not clear of the platter, I tried to move it a bit, nothing really happened, I didn't want to fully damage it so I didn't dig around to much, so I put it back together, sprayed it all with compressed air and plugged it back in, and happy fkn days!! Q1. Is it OK to spray compressed air inside the drive? Q2. What is the best (reliable / robust) type of drive for storing files at home?? Thanks again brothaa

I hope this helps someone, I use a magnet from a speaker and put it on the hard drive pull it in the direction the head needs to go and the hard drive working ok now no beeping.

Hello, I have a WD my passport 1 TB HDD. About a month or so it stopped working. I opened it up as you taught us in the video (extremely carefully) and the drive itself is spotless but the needle goes left and right over and over. It's like the drive tries to read but is unsuccessful to do so. I haven't tried another USB cable and the laptop (although it recognizes there's a hdd connected) does not shows my HDD in my PC folder. Is it dead? Should I give up?

I have this issue and I have a similar Samsung Drive - it does not have a parking ramp and all the components look the same. One issue I am having is that I cannot figure out which screwdriver works for un-sticking the platter. I was wondering which screw driver you are using @2:00 to turn the screw counter-clockwise? Mine does not fit any screwdrivers from a kit that i have and frankly it doesn't even look like a screw. Thanks!

Wow interesting, I thought if you open up a disk you kill it, since they're full of inert gas and I thought even the tiniest amount of dust would stop the heads reading the platter.

Is there any possible way for me to send you my HDD and pay you to do this? I contacted Gillware and they told me it would probably be around $1,800. I don’t have that kind of money at the moment. This is the only video I’ve found so far that shows a HDD making a very similar sound that mine is making. I tried changing the pcb board and swapped the bios chip and that didn’t work so I’m thinking it’s either the head stuck on the platter or a bad spindle motor.

This head repair is still pretty risky, if your data is extremely crucial (7/10+ crucial) , pay the money for a clean-room professional service to assess if the platters are still ok and to repair the mechanical parts. By design and to be honest these drives can handle a very little bit of dust as they contain internal air filtration to remove it and the chances of the dust lodging between the platter and needle are pretty rare in such a brief time but DO NOT let the drive sit open for long periods of time. Even more honest, a "clean room" is also not 100% perfection dust free but it's pretty close. If you have a powerful air purifier, run that max with a decent clean/new filter for 24+ hours prior in the room. Absolutely best advice for data today - always have an automatic backup (another drive or cloud service) and verify the backup is running every so often maybe every few weeks once you can trust it. It's better to wait on a data restore if the mechanical parts indeed fail on a drive - this can be an HDD or SDD - solid states of any kind can also fail after 5-10 years, be aware.
