Glad to see that you are giving Kisun some love, not like he needs it much anymore. I have had the honor of trailing with him and language barrier or not we had some great runs. I'll tell you, he puts in the work to get the angles and it has done him well.. like 55k subscribers since my days with him, in just 4 years.
Anytime a transmission or portal gear sits on a pin inserted through a shaft, the pin seat in gear is only rounded on one side of the gear. If u look closely on ALL transmission or portal gears the gear "SHOULD" only go on one way but it can be installed either way because it appears as if it doesn't matter which side the pin sit's on, that's why we're seeing/hearing random videos of clicking SCX10III Jeeps & SCX10II UMG10's with various degrees of clicking depending how many transmission or portal gears are sitting on pins incorrectly! The transmission or portal gear shaft pin seats are only rounded on one side of every gear that sits on a pin inserted through a shaft, if it's the wrong side it's like adding 2 or 3 shims & will create binding &/or make gears hit covers causing the clicking. Some have just been lucky cuz it's a 50/50 chance of getting each gear seated on their pins correctly! Axial should make this clear in the instructions, luckily I saw a few other videos before I built my SCX10III Jeep. Now I need to go tear apart my UMG10 transmission cuz I didn't know this when I built that & even following the "revision" & using proper revised gear case in the UMG10 manual, it still was clicking & felt bound up.
Really like your approach to videos. Regular guy talking with regular people about common hobby interests. I’ll “click” on the links to find out more about this issue 😊
I did it on mine and it definitely helped, mine was really loud at the beginning, after i flipped the gears the loud clicking stopped. It still have a slight click under heavy load. Great video. Stay safe out there. One of this i would like to visit u in Jacksonville and run my trucks there.
Sounds like an exhaust leak to me! Lol thanks for the tip. Soon as the mailman drops off my box I'll be paying close attention to the transmission to avoid some clicking
I have just bought the scx10 iii Gladiator, it also has the clicking, Tbh it doesn't bother me , the car is outstanding in performance, it out performs my TRX4 , it may get better seated over time I think , as long as it doesn't break the car I'll leave it alone but thanks very much for your honest video , too many are giving bias videos , these cars are very dear and some people haven't got the money to waste.
There must be a special aftermarket gear kit to fix this issue I'm glad you did this video man I'm goin to really test my scx10 ii build with 2 speed transmission I might post a video of what I'm doin on it
We can all recall all the recent new releases from various manufacturers that have had issues that they should of never left the factory with. They just design, build and ship, without any testing it seems. Sad. :-(
@@_carefulcole_4517 they are designed by a different company to Axial, their products are made by the same company - Horizon Hobbies - though. If you watch Arrma's 'Behind the Innovation' videos, you'll see why I said that.
I had the cklicky gears in my 10.3 too. Flipping one gear was not all. There is another gear which connects the rear drive shaft. In this one fits a 10mm pin. Included is a 8mm pin which is shaking around. You can get a 10x2.5mm pin which is used in the capra (AXI236171). But then I found another noisy part. The dig plate and the output shaft for the rear axle. The shaft is squared and has rounded edges in the area of the dig plate. But it is to tight. So the shaft scrapres the dig plate all the time. Make one test. Remove only the housing of the dig unit. And leave the ball bearing and the dig plate in the housing. Remove the gear from the shaft. And now try to rotate the shaft in the housing without a clicking noise. It was simply not possible. So i took my file and removed the 4 edges of the dig plate which touched the shaft. Now it's much quieter. Give it a try. Hope that helps!
even the gladiator has this issue. but after u flipped and shimmed and nothing changed. ill pass! 😂 but yeah i noticed theres a bit of noise after doing so. great job sir! 🤜🏼🤛🏼🔥
The clicking sounds almost like an old diesel engine. I'm glad I bought the gmade buffalo instead. The worst noise on my gmade is by far the savox servo. Scx10.3 chassis details looks great.
Ive been watching all your videos and how your trying to find the clicking noise along with some other RU-vid channels and just saw a video from eighty83s rc builds and more channel and it seems that the portal gears also have the same round side and square side to them so you might want to look into i cant wait to get my kit and build it and ill be sure to pay very close attention to this as im assembling
Hey, so idk if you'll see this but, i tore mine apart and regreased it. Checked all the gears in my 10.3 trans none of them have a round hole square hole. They're all round hole round hole in the pin bore. They all seamed fine, put the 2 speed in "neutral, and the click wen away, looked at the t case and everything seemed fine i looked at the dig, the output that they machined to fit the square shaft through the dig was hitting on the dig plate. I shaved it with my dremel, then looked at the axles i had to put a traxxas 1985 shim on the pinion for the front axle and now its smooth as i would expect.
I was just watching a build video. The portals have the same gear pin thing. One side is round and the other side is square. Maybe that is what is causing your clicking. Just another thought.
Perhaps one of the gears are contacting the inside of the transmission case slightly. The tolerances of the shafts might be loose enough to allow the gears under load to move to a side and make contact with the inside of the case. The sound to me sounds like the gear teeth are grinding on plastic. But not bad enough to show obvious damage
So much for counting on mechanical writers whom English is a second language. If I'm correct, Axial also screwed the pooch in the Capra's original transmission build instructions causing much frustration for countless 'kit' enthusiasts.
It's not actually how it works... understandably we get frustrated with manufacturers, but have you checked out Harley's live stream with Rich from Horizon/Axial ? Really good insight on how a new kit gets developed and the hurdles these guys go through to bring a kit to market. Was a good watch. Cheers 👍
@Exocaged Rc hey man, I just got my scx10.3 today. On the big gear on each portal axle has the same thing. One side has the half moon cut, one side has the square cut. Hope this solves your problem!!!!!
This click is way too fast. I’m working on a new video where I’m pretty sure I legit found it. Sloppy gears, as in the bore of the gears are loose on the shaft, allowing them to move around
Hi It sounds like to me because those 2 small metal gears slip on the shafts and wiggle around with play is what's causing that clicking sound. They should have been tighter tolerances so they fit on the shafts tighter without play.
@@ExocagedRC You can try coating the shaft and all the insides of the gears with that tacky tamiya antiwear grease that may deaden the slapping sound if it is a loose fit gear.
OK great informative video and I have watched your other videos about the clicking on the kit but I have the RTR and have only run it 2 or 3 times and I have the clicking whenever I run it at all!!! I'm really disappointed at this point with the Axial and really wish I wouldve bought the Traxxas TXR4. I just dont have the money to keep buying different rigs.
Just curious i bought a RTR SCX10.3 and its making that clicking noise as well do you think the factory could have put them in backwards as well. Any suggestions would be great
I don't have an SCX10, but those gears look mighty close to the gearbox case. I wonder if there is enough slop between the gear and shaft, or in the bearings, that a tooth gently rubs the case periodically. I would try shimming between the shaft and the ID of the gear with some tape.
My problem is not the clicking sound. Mine doesn't have it perhaps improvements in newer production batch. My problem is the noise of Savox digital servo I recycled from my 1/8 nitro buggy.
Correct. Another guy mentioned inside the trans there are more gears with the double cut pin groove. I may dig into that and see if there is possibly something else I missed.
I noticed a clicking when I was in my trans changing the gear to the 20/34 gears. It was from the dig being in between both positions. Longshot but who knows. No clicky in mine, I would look until I found the click, that kind of thing would drive me to drinking....More.
I just got the SCX gladiator and I have a faint ticking sound coming from trans, could it be gear mesh making it tick.only when going very slow can I hear it or going down hill with throttle on alittle bit you can hear this almost like a rattle but can tell it's in tranny, this is my only second year in RC not sure how comfy I am tearing trans apart.any ideas brother,I do have videos of the sounds it's making.hope someone can help
Exocaged RC too bad man! If I’m to be perfectly honest though, I feel it kind of makes it sound like engine knock from a V8 or something lol. Loving your channel, I’m now an Exo Gold member 😊
Would you say it's in rotation with input or motor speed? The click seemed to be in time with motor fan rotation when you had it in bench. Spur and pinion mesh? I have faith in you mate, you'll fix it.. Or not ! Lol..as I continue to watch footage while typing. Cheers mate 👍
Seems to be at spur speed. I’ve looked over the gears very carefully and cleaned them and nothing has really changed. I have new gears on the way so I’m hoping for the best.
@@ExocagedRC must be frustrating mate.. I'm sure you'll let us know when you get it sorted. Are you leaving this truck kind of as is now.. and waiting to see what other model come from Axial? Or you going to put the scx10iii on a diet and strip it down like a sport style?
@@ExocagedRC I definitely agree that a brand new truck shouldn't be making clicking or squeaky noises though, I hope you can figure out the issue because I really want to build one of these myself one day.
Have a look on RCCrawler forum, post #150 of this thread, the noise comes from dig plate too: www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial-scx10-iii/616553-scx10-iii-things-know-before-you-build-yours-tips-8.html#post6013233 In my case, grinding of the dig plate corners toward the shaft completely solved the clicking noise.
