But I was hoping for a 20 minute introduction about how he encountered discord frst while being on retreat in nepal, following the teachings of the dalai lama, where a vision gave him clarity about the discord in the world, to which he traveled to Tikitiki island to study the harmony of seahorses and their grasp of seaweed which is, of course, a metaphor of our struggle to grasp reality. etc etc...
Thank you for this guide! Although I went to do a different route by deleting the cache folder only and it worked, I didnt have to relogin my account and fix settings
That method worked for me too. In many circumstances with malfunctioning applications (including games), the cause of the error is usually a corrupted cache, and clearing it (in this case by deleting the cache folder) will usually fix the issue. This is usually the best method to try before deleting the entire user data folder as recommended in this video, which does usually work too but often results in the loss of saved user preferences unless said preferences are stored online.
Actually there is an even EASIER way to do it. Instead of deleting the whole discord folder folder just delete the data files in cache directory inside it. That way you don't even need to relog, just restart and you're good.
no funny business, this solved the grey screen issue. You do have to change your discord settings as he mention after. Short and sweet tutorial. THANK YOU!

I just deleted the cache folders inside the discord folder and that worked for me without reinstalling or having to log back in. So deleting the whole folder might be unnecessary.
Worth noting the reason this happened to me was simply because i opened discord on a browser and accidentally got a different account that wasn't claimed because i was downloading something for Minecraft shaders from the iris discord server, didn't then close out of that unclaimed account and remained logged into it, which gave me this error i noticed this was the issue when i did this fix and it immediately opened back up to that basically unofficial not real version of my account, and then i had to log out of it in the settings at the bottom and then just sign back in like normal after that things opened back like usual and it was fixed as far as i can tell
the easiest way for me is to close the process / kill it from the taskbar. consider turning off launch during startup. it's gonna happen again, it always does...
If you go into that discord file folder, and find "Cache", open that and delete all files within I was able to fix it without deleting the whole discord folder. Not sure if that would help anyone else.
