Thank you, this was so very helpful. FYI, I found out through experimenting that the process for the 1st gen iPad is slightly different. With the iPad in bootloop, PRESS AND HOLD THE "SLEEP" AND "HOME" BUTTONS TOGETHER until after the iPad resets AND the "Plug iPad into your computer" screen comes up. Then after connecting to your Mac/PC be sure to choose "Update." I had to do the process twice. The first time, I selected "Restore->Update and Restore" but it didn't work. The second time, I selected "Update" and it worked perfectly. 😁👍

Help. After I did all of this, I set up my device and did a quick start with my old device. I did everything and then after that the Apple logo with a progress bar app read and it stopped just before it could finish, basically freezing my iPad. Is there a fix for this plz?

saved my life, but didn't save my data

Didn't work. It was an ipad 3. It was interrupted during a factory reset. Now it won't load iTunes to it. Keeps giving different error messages every time. Was cleaning out the garage on the weekend and found it. Thought I'd give it 1 last try. At least I got that satisfaction of smashing an Apple product. Worst devices ever.
