my 2 yr old male lab, is being a lot harder to train, than my last lab who died 3yrs ago at 12 due to ill health, Alfie was a dream dog and he didnt need a lead in any enviroment after 1 yrs of age, young lab still pulls on the lead, but is 50% better than he was with your advice, i check him and he turns, looks me in the eye, then he is ok for a min, then pulls again..he is getting a lot better and every day is getting less of a chore..only need him over his anxiety when we see another dog, he wants to run/pulls as hard as he can, to them, heckles up but tail wagging? he is not an aggressive dog and doesnt show snarling teeth, bark or growl when he is wanting to get to the other dog..any advice?

I found using a longer slip lead which enables me to "do" the figure of eight over his muzzle stops this. I find a lot of Labrador owners do this.

What would it take to get you to Melbourne Victoria? I’m so heavily disabled and trying to walk my 11m lab is the worst experience of my life. My back is not coping and she doesn’t correct with treats.

I have a choc lab and she pulls like she’s taking me on a walk! You say to redirect her, but how?? She needs to be walked and I can barely hold on to her! What do you think of the gentle lead? She hates it too! You make it look easy! Please help!!

Is there a reason to bring your dog to heel on your left side.? Does it matter or is it just preference.

my best ever Labrador son died 3 years ago due to old age and health problems (12), he just automatically switched sides while you were walking and what direction of road traffic, if i was walking on a pavement he would walk to my left, if i was walking down a country lane where you walk on the right, facing on coming traffic (highway code, to see on coming traffic), he moved to the right side..but that is what i taught him over time..keeps your dog away from traffic and safe 😊

Is any1 elses' lab a total thief? Mine niks anything u find useful&i have to fully sweep his gob coz he'll hide the object somewhere in his mouth to make u think he's either swallowed or dropped it! Have avoided many trips to the vet by first checking under his tongue! Much love.

Absolutely! Our lab’s obsession includes dryer sheets and socks!

Oh Jesus YES, not so much stealing useful stuff but she picks up little things she finds and I'm worried about her choking or swallowing something dangerous, so I try to get it out but her out seems empty but then as soon as I give up she started moving it around her mouth again 🤣

Yes, Simon steals keys and locks. The first time, I had to replace the padlock on my gate. I had no idea where it was. I had recently adopted him. A week later he put it on the steps. He also stole my other dogs collar and hid it. He returned it after he chewed it and broke it in pieces. He freaked me out when I first adopted him at 9 months…I would go to put his lead on him and he would gobble a mouthful of rocks!😮 I was afraid that he swallowed them. After looking on the internet, I quickly taught him ‘drop it’ with some yummy treats to substitute for the rocks, socks, tissues…. I let him chew the tissues now. It’s just annoying that he’ll pull the tissues out of the box. I realized that gobbling the rocks was a reaction to his being excited about his walk. It was nervous energy - he didn’t know what to do with himself. 😂 He’s a lab, So he did what comes naturally…he put something in his mouth. Grabbing socks and tissues are a game for him. He’ll walk past me so I see him. He wants me to chase him. I chase him around the house, closing all the doors behind us, so he has no where to go. Once he sees that he has to get past me to go downstairs, he drops it, and I praise him for being a good boy!🙄 After a month of anxiety and worrying that I made a bad decision, I accepted that he’s like a toddler and only wants attention and to play. So I exercise and hug him a lot, give him lots of toys and treats to keep him active, occupied, calm, and happy. Fortunately, I have an Amstaff that Simon plays with most of the day!🥰

THANK YOU for this! Just adopted a highly reactive 1 year old lab who is like a vacuum.

Are slip leads actually helpful for training? Kinda seems a bit too much like a choke chain which I find disgusting (the fact its a metal chain makes it seem a million times worse than just a slip leash) The assistance dog charity I train my dogs with doesn't allow such things when training with them or when out wearing the charities gear, although apparently that's the only times they can say no, jf someone's just taking their dog for a walk, not working not training then they can do what they want basically
