Hi there, I love Omlet as well the houses are so easy to clean & keep my ladies snug at night and somewhere restful for them to lay their eggs in the day. The deep bedding worked great in our run, no more soggy wood chips or wet feet for the ladies. Thank you so much 😁

Guess we gotta do what we gotta do to keep our chickens healthy...but I'd never use the bigger chips such as that, but each has to do what they feel is right...

Doesn’t make any difference, it all still breaks down just like a compost it’s not hard on their feet it’s soft. I’ve just removed last year’s and it’s all beautiful compost which I’ve put into our raised beds. The chickens now have fresh bedding in their run and as soon as bird flu is over they are allowed out into the garden every day with us. The main thing is that the chickens are happy and that’s all that matters to me as they are rescues and they have a better life than they did before. As you say each to their own and thank you for your comment.

I'm having this problem I've had to cut off some of their run because it's so bad ...I worry they will get ill...

Hi, yes it’s not nice for them & they can get foot rot as well. Try and raise the run with slabs or something similar and then fill with the bark chippings. Hopefully that will greatly improve it. Thank you for your comment 🙂

Yes I saw you did that. We have some spare slabs so I'm going to do it over the weekend as there's more rain on its way

Eventually it will build up and you will have a bigger mess to clean

No it doesn’t turn into a bigger mess! it turns into a lovely compost and I know because I’ve literally just removed the old bedding a week ago. I dug it in into my raised borders where we grow our veg. There was nothing nasty in there, just all broken down into a heathy compost. The chickens have fresh bedding in there run, which I will top up as needed and then remove it in a years time again.

@@SuzannesSimpleLiving Hi,.. Is it really ok to leave that bark bedding down for about a year without detrimental health issues to the chickens? I mean, they poop constantly, and you have to walk in there. I know nothing about how to look after chickens so I'm not criticising, just learning. Thanks.

@@Stringbean421 hi there,..we've had no issues from it. In the summertime because of the warm weather it does actually dry out. Once a week I do turn the bedding over and move it all about so it's not staying in one place. Any fresh food or weeds that we give them does also break down as well of course they are constantly eating all the bits that are in there so as I say I just find it turns into a compost. See how you go if you're not happy you could change more often. It definitely made beautiful compost that we put into our raised beds and our strawberries were very tasty this year 😁 I hope that helps you x
