Thank you for posting this video, Victor. I bought a 2015 RX in 2014 and am still driving it. A couple of months ago I heard the clunking noise. Initially I thought finally it is time for a new set of struts and absorbers, or at least sway bar links. Saw this video and gave it a try yesterday in my garage, took me 2 hours to replace both the front and rear bushings (most of the time spent on the front ones because of the tight space). Bam! Problem solved! My next project is to replace the struts and absorbers to bring the ride quality back to that of a new RX. Thanks to you and your detailed videos, I feel I am able to make it happen!

Great video! Are the wheels off the ground during the bushing replacement?
@Viktor_G_Automotive
@Viktor_G_Automotive Год назад
Yep, but you can do it with the wheels on the ground also if you can crawl under there

Thanks! Mine shakes when I hit any bumps. I hope this is the fix.

@@goonole if it shakes over bumps, I’d suspect weak shocks/struts

@@Viktor_G_Automotive Thanks.....I replaced the shocks. It still shakes a bit, but not as much. I do have 189k miles on it. The guy that helped me said the sway bars may need replacing. Does that sound right to you?
@Viktor_G_Automotive

@@goonole a sway bar is just a piece of metal, I’ve never seen one “wear out”, only seen them snap. If it is not physically broken/cracked, it’s probably fine.

Thanks for the great video! Should a bad sway bar bushing or bad end links result in clunk that is felt in the steering?
@Viktor_G_Automotive
@Viktor_G_Automotive 29 дней назад
@@Thighbolster you are welcome! I normally don’t feel worn sway bar components in the steering, to me it feels on the front end, but I guess it’s possible. 2010-2011 models also had an issue with a rattle inside the steering column caused by wear inside the column itself. Not sure if that’s what you are feeling/hearing or if it is suspension related.

@@Viktor_G_Automotive Thanks Victor. This clunk I feel is slightly noticeable and in the steering when riding over rough bumps and especially when pulling out of the driveway (declined) with the steering turned (left or right). It’s a 2015 RX350. I have replaced the steering intermediate shaft and I have replaced the small power steering plastic damper. The inner and outer tire rods seem fine (I pried them pretty hard), CAB’s look fine and the power steering system works pretty fine. Lexus dealership couldn’t figure it out from a test drive either. If you have any clues, would appreciate it. Thanks!

@@Thighbolster look at the sway bar links and bushings for play. If that all looks good, may need new front struts.

@@Viktor_G_Automotive Thanks, I agree with you. I have been suspected strut mounts. Struts were replaced 4-5 years ago, but not the strut mounts.

I think I found the problem. It looks like my right inner tie rod is bad. I got underneath the car gave it a good thud with my fist and I could hear and feel the same knocking sound that I felt in the steering when reversing out the drive way/ramp. The left side felt ok and all other suspension components seemed ok. Let’s see if that fixes it. Hope it’s not a partially damaged rack and pinioned. Thanks

Can This can be done with the weight of the vehicle still loaded on the suspension? I wanted to use ramps. Thank you.

Possibly, but I’ve never tried it that way, so don’t know for sure.

@@BigDipper79 I always work using a hoist with the wheels hanging down and the suspension unloaded, so you will just have to try and see, I personally never tried it that way.

Went to replace, struggled to get to the bolt.....found it tried loosening it, alrights its finally turning.....SNAP.....Welp i now have 3 bolts to worry about...scratch that its still in there (bolt) just with no head now. Ugghhh looks like a job for another day
@Viktor_G_Automotive
@Viktor_G_Automotive 8 месяцев назад
That sucks 😞 I always put penetrating fluid on the threads, and if it feels like the bolt is stuck, use a torch to heat it up. Depending on which bolt it is, you could drill it out either from the bottom or from the top (with a 90 degree drill), or see if there is a bit of broken bolt sticking out and use vise grips and heat. In either case, it will likely be somewhat challenging.

In the owners manual lexus lists a number of bolts to be checked and torqued on a regular basis. Could you show how to locate these bolts? The Front right tire on my 2011 rx 450H continues to wear much faster than the others and so I am looking to see if there is anything I need to torque or adjust to correct this.
@Viktor_G_Automotive
@Viktor_G_Automotive 9 месяцев назад
Will make that video if I get a chance. If your one tire is wearing faster, the two things to look at would be the front suspension (blown/weak strut etc) and wheel alignment.
