Some say that hard start kits can be detrimental to refrigerators because the forcefulness of the start can cause compressor parts to deteriorate faster. The large capacitance boost from the kit can also lead to compressor failure if the refrigerator runs for a long time without the motor-run capacitor. The high-boost over-capacitance starts can also repeatedly hammer the motor.

He backed his pickup to it and just flipped it on it's side and I asked him whether he gave a sh....t about it and asked him what he was going to do and he said he'd have a repairman look at it and if it can't be fixed part it out. I gave him the owner's manual and he threw it in the back in the bed with the fridge (didn't even bother to put it in the cab with him on the seat). The starter relay is way over priced via parts cataloge but the universal relay.. You don't need to plug in the old capacitor, there is one in the 3 in 1 unit. The original parts can last 20 or 30 years. In my experience, it is rare the 3in 1 lasts more than ten years. Keep a cheap thermometer in the fridge or freezer and check it often.

There is no mention of using the OEM capacitor. Is this typical to utilizing the OEM capacitor? I thought the 3in1 includes a built in cap to avoid using the OEM one. Thanks.

Hello first off thank you for the very concise description of the problem, no other video has done that. I had the exact same condition, the fridge would try to start every 3 minutes and it would run for 8 or 9 seconds before it clicked again and went off. I had a repair person come in and change the starter to a universal one ( he said that is the problem and that the Kitchen Aid starter could not be found). That started the fridge up. It cooled at the beginning for about 2 hours, but then it stopped. It would run for long time, which we should have known is not a great sign. The repair man came back and said that the compressor motor has seized and won't run. Could this be because the compressor was running hot? also could you tell me if this is something that the repair person should have known to begin with? or was there no way for him to know that the compressor had an issue. I ended up paying for the service call and the labor for replacing the starter.

Connect wires to compressor as I did. Then Im thinking one of your 3 wires is a ground wire. Then white wire should match up with new relay. And blue wire is probably the power or same as red wire was on mine. If 1 or your 3 wires is a grounding wire you will know because it will run to a point and will be bolted or screwed down

The relay link posted is Supco RCO410 Start Kit. It doesn't have the connector on the red and white lines as the one you used in the video. The correct one should be "Supco URCO410-0 Pre-wired Capacitor", which is what you used. Now, I have to return the wrong one.

You can pigtail a couple short wires into the wire nuts and connect those 2 to the capacitor via a couple crimp on female connectors. You dont need to buy a separate part. Do that and see if it works, hopefully thatll do the trick. If not will have to start troubleshooting.

@Nclght
@Nclght 4 года назад
Don't connect a 3n1 to your fridge! Many if not most modern Fridges of the last 10 years or so use variable speed inverter compressors and you can destroy your compressor by attempting to run it with a 3n1. Johnny DIY has done a great disservice by not mentioning this. Furthermore, if you do have a single speed compressor fridge, it's always best to go with the manufacturer's relay and only use a 3n1 temporarily until you get the actual replacement . Relays have different amp ratings and the possibility of shortening the life span of your compressor exists.
