I would try mild solvents first, such as rubbing alcohol (2 kinds), lighter/camping fuel (liquid, not butane or propane), paint thinner, etc. don't go straight to acetone, which is a common plastic solvent.

@pplo
@pplo 17 дней назад
@@AdamAdamHDL actually many products have a plastic “wall” with a thin coat of this rubber stuff. I cleaned some a while ago and they are fine. Surely some solvents will turn the plastic brittle, but they will last quite a while before breaking. Another solution is to use some corn starch, that will “absorb” the gooey stuff. I don’t in the long term what will happen though
@valeriofriuli3069

That stickiness is the elastomer leeching out, the component that makes the plastic soft and supple. Removing it may solve the stickiness problem in the short term, but ultimately the plastic, lacking this elastomer, becomes brittle and cracks.
@lonnieevans4127

Seems a variety of organic solvents are working. Lately orange cleaners are all the rage on the net to remove the sticky goo but I see no reason to buy one if you don't already have it. I've removed the stickiness successfully with brake cleaner. Why brake cleaner? Because I already had it. Brake cleaner is not ideal, it evaporates very quickly, maybe a bit too fast. Some formulations of brake cleaner contain harmful ingredients, so good ventilation is mandatory. Or a suitable gas mask, if you prefer. I'd be careful with paint thinner which may dissolve or discolour some types of plastic. If that's what you intend to use, test at an invisible location first. Some people have reported they had to repeat the procedure after a few months. I'm not sure what the science behind that is - in particular if there is any relation to the solvent used. All I can say is that so far I did not have to repeat the procedure.
