What to do if the switch can't be fixed?

I agree! Especially because most parts are made in China now. Everything we take off this truck has been Made in the USA, Canada or Mexico. I don't know how many people pay attention to that, but we do.

@@JohnCRV Yes that's true, most parts and most items in general are made in China. With so many supply chain issues these days, it's hard to get certain things. We need to manufacture more products here in North America again.

One thing I can think of is a pen spring. You may have to stretch it some to give it more power and then cut it to size. But try a junk yard first.

If you listen and watch very carefully it shows it real well...

You probably don't have the sunroof and garage door opener buttons but the maplight switch should be the same,

I never had to lookup that fuse but I know that if water gets in from the OnStar antenna seal it can get into the overhead console. That's all I can share on the possible cause. Let us know how you make out, it may help someone.

@@JohnCRV I could not repair the switches on my 2001 GMC SIERRA on the overhead console. I could not get to the switches, also one of the pieces of one switch was gone. I found a set of push button SPST switches that light up when you push them in or wired to be on all the time, not the way to go,on Amazon. The diameter of the switches is less than 1/2" it's 12MM, length of the switches are not very long as to the thin washers as I explain later, and theyre pre-wired with 6" leads other ones you have to solder the wires on. Afterwards I broke out the old ones I had to use a Dremel tool to open up recessed holes in the plastic housing where the switches go. The switches fit good but the recessed area is open on one side and the switch wanted to rock on an angle plus it was deep in the recess. So I found some washers that fit the recess but the switch would not fit in the hole of the washers. So I reamed and filed the holes of the washers. They started as 1/4" washers but when I was done there was not much left. The two washers on the top side have to be thin in thickness. The single one one the bottom where the threaded nut is has to be a little bit bigger in diameter but thin as well. So there's to washers on the top side of the recess and one on the bottom for the nut to tighten up against. Because of the recess and not a flat area made it into a project but with some patience and I mean patience it can be done. These switches come in four different colors and If you give me an email or something I can send you the info on the switches, pictures and a video.

​@@JohnCRV you were working on a small console and the switches looked accessible. But on the large consoles they are not. I did acquire a used console. But it's as old as mine even though the switches worked. My switches broke a long time ago and in the meantime I got the used one. I've neglected my truck but since I have retired I have been bringing it back to it's former self. That's when I started looking just to see if the switches could be repaired or replaced. But seeing that I couldn't access mine and the used console switches could break eventually thats why I wanted another way. I have to get my headliner redone so when they do it I'm going to have them cover both consoles like the factory did and at that point I'll make the decision to what one I'll use. Put the used one in and use it until the switches break then put my repaired updated one in with the cool light up switches. That makes me think I should order another set of switches and do the same thing on the old one and have it as a backup or sell it for some cash $$.
