There are different types of Hernia and the umbilical Hernia is common during pregnancy and sometimes even after. If the umbilical Hernia opening is not that big and could still be fixable without surgery, then try my exercises. However, if it is getting worse and see a doctor and see if there is a recommendation for surgery. Umbilical hernia is found in males and females both. but the percentage in males is just 20% and in females it is 80%. in males it occurs due to lifting weight with wrong posture or in those people who have poor abdominal muscles due to their overweight. apart from this if somebody has suffered from prolonged cough for a long time he may also suffer from umbilical hernia because of the jerk put on abdominal wall while coughing. in females It is seen during pregnancy or after pregnancy both. friends the most important reason for umbilical hernia occurring after pregnancy whether it is a normal delivery or cesarean delivery is not wearing of abdominal support. and sometimes it is also not advised by doctors also. but this abdominal support should be worn. Due to the split of these muscles in females sometimes a hole is generated between these two muscles and the intestinal content protrudes from this hole.
If you haven't met me my name is Annie, I am a physical therapist and certified Pilate’s instructor and I love to incorporate Pilates for my patients with neck and back pain. Evidence based proven to help strengthen and improve the flexibility /mobility of the spine. The exercises are safe to perform at home, with your mat or on your bed to help strengthen your core and relieve some back pain discomfort. One of the basic rule of Pilates is to make sure to have the Fundamentals . engage core muscles by performing deep breathing exercise .
Here are the gentle exercises to start that will not hurt your back.
1. Vacuuming, or core engagement:
2. Butterfly - with knees bent gently separate knees apart
3 bridging-
4. hamstring stretch
5 leg lifts
6. knee opener
7. side to side hip stretch
8. bird dog
9. Cat and camel
10 piriformis stretch
11. Butterfly stretch
12. heel slides

Thank you so much for this video. I'm 52 yo male, and I have just been diagnosed with a 3,5 cm diastasis and a small umbilical hernia, due to heavy lifting at gym. Although I did find some videos about healing the diastasis problem, you're the first one that gives me hope regarding the hernia issue. I do need to be healed, because I have a 7 yo boy and a 5yo girl, full of energy, and I don't think it would be fair to them to prevent any kind of interaction with them because I did something wrong at the gym. So excited I found this video I found a web site that had the steps in detail but I felt I wasn't doing it right seeing it and doing it with the video is so much better. I have a hernia in my belly button from being pregnant with my son and it's not that bad I keep kinesio tape on it with a cotton ball to keep in from protruding out at all bc I have to lift my children and other stuff and it does wonders I have no pain or discomfort but my belly fat is still there like as of I was 4 months pregnant and the hernia is just staying the same. Hoping doing this long term I can fix my hernia. Or atleast get by long enough when life slows down a lil and I can have surgery. I breast feed to .

I did these exercises and I have umbilical hernia and diastasis recti. I was in pain for 2-3 days after I’ve been doing it for 3-4 days daily. The first time I did the exercises it didn’t bother me. After 3-4 days of doing it, it didn’t feel too well on my tummy. I’m so sad because I wanted it to work but I guess surgery it is..

Hi. I am 21 years old and I have a umbilical hernia, born with. It is not painful, it has actually reduced over the years though it is still slightly visible. Can these exercises help?

I have a 14mm umbilical hernia (0.55 inches). Can I do these exercises to build core strength ?? And, will this fix my hernia ???

Rolita Sequeira yes start with this and what you have is still not as separated as mischief , I have patients who recovered with 1 inch hernia . So you will be fine as long as you be careful on lifting anything too heavy more 10 pounds without abdominal brace . Try do these exercises at last 3 times a week to see results in a month .

Do I need to do this exercise rest of my life to make sure that the umbilical hernia will stay inside? If I stop do this exercise what happen? In Sweden saying that the only way to get rid off it is to go under surgery.

rememberoncemore it is like maintenance program and I have a gentle progression 30 days Pilates you can slowly build your core strength , to fix it for good . It is also a lifestyle change . Hernias don't happen normally, they happen when the muscles become weak. I never had a hernia issue before I started sitting around all day.

Does this exercise work for male cuz I just had hernia from sneezing alot yesterday. When i cough or laugh it hurt my belly so bad. When i did some exercise, my belly hurt even more

I have a huge Umbilical hernia and im afraid to do these workouts. My doctor can not get my hernia to go back in when he pushes on it. I didn’t want surgery but i don't know what else to do

Hi Annie, these should be done daily, yes? How many weeks in total do you think is sufficient. I have a supra-umbilical hernia the size of a small coin. It is causing me pain and possibly digestion problems...

I know this video is a little bit older but, I have had 3 umbilical hernia repair surgeries before (was born with one.) Always had super weak muscles, sickly child and working on reduction of being overweight. I found that I have a very hard time doing regular exercise. I am not sure if it's a reopening of the hernia area or previous scar tissue irritating the other areas, or poor healing from the previous surgeries. Will these help? Should there be any alterations? I unfortunately am coming from a severe out of shape body fitness right now, and just trying to find the best starting place that won't cause any damage to the umbilical area.

Zanuvar try the frost 4 exercises o this video with proper vacuum and core engagement demo it daily then a week later add additional 4 more until you could finish the whole video and feel your core and hernia area making sure it is not exacerbating during and after the exercises . Small defect seen in umbilical region measuring 1cms with omentum tend to herniate on cough. In my scan this has been mentioned. I felt pain in my belly button 4-5 time in these two years. Can I do these exercises to cure umbilical herenia

I have an umbilical hernia pretty much right behind my bellybutton, I assume from straining. My GI doctor told me that it's too small to operate on right now, but it's starting to slowly become more prominent. It is also painful at times, feels almost like a sore bruise. I am not overweight. I'm actually underweight due to gastroparesis prohibiting me from eating enough, so losing weight is not an option for me. Will these exercises help me? Also, has anyone begun to do these exercises daily & discovered that it helps their hernia go back in? I'd really like to take care of this before it gets worse. Any advice or shared experiences are appreciated.

You can do walking first daily from 10 to30 minutes, progress to 60 minutes of daily gentle walks for the first 2 weeks, then slowly progress to fast walk. Running is a little bit more aggressive so once your hernia is healed then you can run. You can wear your abdominal binder for support on your run after 2 months of walk and if you can see the the hernia is healing the slowly let go of the binder but make sure the run is less than 15 minutes. Diet is also key for fat loss, so calorie deficit is key, less salt and sweets as well.

Hello I just found your channel I was told I have a small hernia from giving birth. I also have Diastasis recti I have almost closed that gap that. The hernia is my issue.. i dont want to do surgery. Depends on how much is your hernia and make sure you try to eat less salty food and to eat in small portions multiple times a day or try intermittent fasting for soft tissue healing . Whenever try to lift something heavy then use abdominal binder as well. Hi saw in the comment sections that its a must to do binder if you have umbilical hernia. How long should I keep my binder on in a day? How can I self measure suspected umbilical hernia? Too afraid to go to the dr. bec. of the pandemic. It's going to be my 6mo postpartum on June 20th. The yoga mat came rolled up in a plastic wrap, which was fairly easy to remove.Contents: I got the green yoga mat and it came with an adjustable velcro carrying strap already secured to the mat. There was also a warranty card. There was a bit of a plastic smell coming form the yoga mat but it quickly dissipated after using it once.I've only used the yoga mat twice so far but I am loving it. It's such a game changer to my work outs, especially compared to my bed and floor, haha! I can confirm that it very thick, slip resistant, and comfortable. i didn't look at the dimensions prior to buying the mat, but it is so much longer than I expected! Width is normal size in my opinion. I don't know if it really is tear resistant yet... only time will tell!

Syeda Tehniyat you Will slowly see tesult after a month of At least Daily exercise program and great results in 3 months . Then slowly progress by adding elastic band around the thighs for progression then you could slowly challenge yourself with a Little bit more dynamic beginners Pilates that is in my program a 5 minute addition weekly challenge .. there is also a lot of factors which is lifestyle , so if uou sit all day at work then it is a Little hit challenging so make sure you walk every 30 minutes sitting for at least 5 minutes to stretch your legs . If you lift and Carry heavy objects as your Job, then Try to pace yourself and wear an abdominal binder while lifting to protect your hernia. If you have uncontrollable strong coughs , Try to protect the hernia with a roller towel or soft pillow and the technique is called splinting. Best of health my friend 🙏❤️

Hi Annie thank you for this video ! I am a yoga teacher of 5 years and during a class, my hernia popped out I was born with a protruding belly button. It went in after the birth of my two children. When I started to teach more vinyasas and power yoga I wanted to ramp up core training in my yoga classes I remember that I rolled up into boat pose and pop went my hernia. I have a tiny (umbilical) hernia from lifting my dumbbells. I’m 39 and have never had this happen before! And I work our all the time! (I do weights maybe once every 2 months.... I usually do running. 6 miles a day.) Am I getting this because I’m older or most likely improper form? It’s been 21 years since I’ve had a baby so it’s not that! Lol Thanks for the video. Okay… I was skeptical. I accidentally made my postpartum umbilical hernia worse last night because I tried doing an ab roller push up. BAD mistake. I cried my eyes out. I had a small hernia and it was still small after last night, just worse. But I did this one time. ONE TIME. And it already looks better. I could feel it kind of suck back into my stomach. I’m going to keep doing it and maybe my whole hernia will resolve, or at least the extra damage I just did can be resolved. Thankful to have found this video!
