I love this tips. I think you should warn the beginners that even if jumping seems easy its a highly technical workout. I injured my lowerback for not doing it properly. ITS normal for beginners to check their foot but its vert bad for the neck and the cervical spine.

Thanks so much for the tips. Been skipping for about 2-3 months now. I’m doing a 30 min session: 15 with a heavy rope and 15 with the money rope. Thanks for all the tips and tricks. I’m getting better and better. Now working on fluidity of the moves.

Nice video and all good points/tips but, understanding ‘why’ is really important too. So, for the benefit of anyone who’s interested: If you look at a cross section of your spine from the side, the bony bits (vertebra) are not square in cross section, they are taller at the front or back so that, stacked on top of each other they form the natural (neutral) curves in your spine. The squishy bits between each vertebra (discs) ARE near as dammit square in cross section. The reason this is important because, with your spine in as neutral a position as possible, each disc can act like a bumper/buffer between the vertebra either side of it and absorb impact. If you rotate your hips forwards in relation to you lumbar spine you exaggerate the neutral lumbar curve and take away its structural integrity, result being that you are effectively putting the front surface of the disc in torsion and in danger of tearing whilst comprising the rear face which - potentially - compresses the nerves that pass through that gap. You also have to engage more muscles to hold your back up because in that position, mechanically, your bones can’t. With your hips in rearward rotation the same thing happens, just the other way round back/front. That rearward rotation also turns your whole spine into a ‘C’ shape which loads up your glutes and pre-emptively blocks the hamstrings so you can’t use them effectively to jump or absorb impact. Keeping knees/ankles/hips as soft as possible allows them to absorb any impact that would other wise be transferred up into the next structure . . . the lumbar spine. The trick is to learn how to move with all the appropriate muscles being fully active whilst also being as soft as possible. TIP, strap a big brick to the top of your head, jump with all your muscles/joints stiff and see how much that hurts, then do it with all your muscles/joints soft and see the difference! FFS DON’T do that, but you get the point. That same aggressive jarring impact is what goes through joints if they’re stiff and through your lumbar spine every time you land if it’s not neutral. You’re welcome! (23-yrs a physical therapist and flexibility/movement teacher - if there’s a prize for the longest comment a neon green ‘Nova’ would give me the full set!)

I have been learning from you for 4 years now so...thanks a lot. Just one question: you (both) suggest not to bent forward and that's intuitive but How can someone avoid this (and posterior tilt) while making space for arms etc. during cross-over and similars? Because one of the tip is to bent the body while in the air.

Struggle with calf strain, is this due to too long a jump session? Also if using a jump mat would you recommend wearing trainers or trying socks only?

My first year of the skipping/weight loss journey I had flat feet and jumped on concrete 🤦🏻‍♂. Resulted in months of shin splints. And of course premature breakage of ropes 😩

I have been jumping rope for years but my form is terrible. The biggest thing that I struggle with is how to stay light on my feet and make jumping rope effortless.

If you want to make this sport accessible, then offer the option to buy the ropes without handles. I have 100 ropes and 400 handles. Your profit harms the environment.
