I have a porch glider which has been sitting outside for over 20 years and just last week the seat fabric finally gave out. I almost tossed it, in fact, I had emailed a metals removal guy to come to pick it up but he never replied so it sat for another few days while I looked for a solution. Finally, it dawned on me that somewhere in YT-land there must be someone who knows of or has done a seat repair and voila! your video popped up on my search. Perfect! Thank you so much. You're helping me save a glider from the recycle depot and I'll be able to sit outside and watch the sunsets again.
So good to see a real clip with all its frustrations like the rope getting tangled. You did a great job. I will use this weave for my chairs. A sit test at the end would have been good. 👍
I tried this on my patio chairs and I'm very pleased with the results! I actually wrapped the rope around both the upper and lower strands of the horizontal rope which have the appearance of old time bed springs. It is very sturdy and will probably last longer than the old seats that rotted in the sun and rain. Thanks for this ideal way to fix patio chairs!
Thank you for sharing. I like this weave, strong and sturdy. Looks good. Going to post on f/b for my friends to see so they don’t throw away their chairs. Thank you again for sharing.
Love it! Thank you! You have given me confidence to begin cutting away the plastic resin weave on these bangin’ chairs I saved from going to the dump! I’m so excited! ☺️ THANK YOU!!
Thanks a million for this. I bought a wonderful metal vintage metal table and chair set from a thrift store. The seats are trashed and I didn't know what to do to replace them. This is a wonderful idea. Thanks again.
Billie I’m with you, I hate when ppl put good stuff in the trash. My wife is like that and it pains me. We go back and forward all the time on this issue
The only thing I would do to make things a bit easier is maybe wrap the rope around a piece of cardboard or wood so that you don’t have to pull the whole lot of rope through on each pull through if that makes sense. Might just help speed the process but other than that I love the video
We are stripping down our chairs now. We LOVE the shape and height of them, but their straps (woven) are brittle and falling apart. We are going to attempt to redo all of them. Love this weave pattern and the nylon/polyester rope you used! Thank you for sharing this with all of us out here!!
Thank you so much for showing your actual work!!😁 You might benefit from wrapping the cord around a shuttle just like weavers do. I might try this sometime.
Thanks for this!!! I have the exact patio set you have and this year, after about 4 years, the seat ripped on 2 of my chairs. I was looking to find how to repair them.
Hi! We have almost identical chairs. Do you by chance remember where you got your rope/what the exact kind is? It’s the perfect color for our chairs! Thanks for the videos-this will be a fun diy!
This was just the idea/video I needed my dear old dad has some very similar metal framed garden chairs that are in need of repair and I’m all for a bit of DIY, just one question was that any kind of rope in particular or just ordinary cotton rope?
This looks great and it is on the kind of chairs I have that were purchased from Walmart but bottom of chairs tore loose after only one season, and they were keep inside during bad weather and during winter season, but fabric seemed to dry rot. This would work much batter. Where do you get the roping and how do you judge how much you need for each chair.
I stopped at the very back of the chair and tied it underneath so I wouldn't be seen. No special knot just a two knot, regular does fine in this case. The cushion with hid it when you put those on.
I like the look of it. Why didn't you wrap the bottom rope with the top one? I macrame chairs but am always looking for something different. Thank you.
Hello, thank you for stopping in. This was a new pattern I saw and wanted to try it. I am no expert thats for sure. Im always looking for different things to see if It turns out good.
@@JustLiving2018 you used rope? Any particular kind? I LOVE this idea! I have a swing that has needed 2 seats for a few years. I miss using it! I had a quote to fix for $200 ( just bottoms!) This gives me HOPE!
What is the name of the rope that you used? This is a very nice looking weave that you did! I have a love seat for out on my patio that I need to fix like this so please tell me what kind of rope did you use????? Thank you!!
Looks very good. How would I know how much yardage I would need for 4 seats and backs of wrought iron chairs that used to have vinyl wicker/rattan, which rotted? I've been looking for years to find out how I could fix them, since they don't have holes in the iron or clips. Do you think I should measure around the seats twice and same for the backs, which don't meet the seats?
On my other video I did a very tight weave with the blue polypropylene rope and that took half of 100 ft. So I would think if you wanted a tight weave with backs too then 100ft could do 1 chair.
@@JustLiving2018 Chair X and Y dimensions, are they 18" ? My chair is 22" x 22", with about 1" diameter tubing. I tried 50 ft (1/4" cord) and got about 6 loops in X.
I Love the look. I have two metal chair frames almost identical to yours that gave been sitting on my front porch without seats, for two years! I would love to do this, but I'm not able to follow. Would you consider making a short step by step video just for one row...as an add on to this video. Thank you! Also, what type or rope or cord are you using, and what is the thickness and the length? Thank you!.
You could use clothes line, it is a type of plastic and there are many kinds to choose from. I would match size with the tight space. There is flat plastic but you have to order it and it is very expensive. That's why I went with rope.
They are a whole set of furniture that is mainly for your garden area or outdoor space. However, you have to pay special attention to their maintenance. How to Protect your Patio Furniture click here - www.howtocrazy.com/use-alternative-ways-to-keep-your-outdoor-patio-furniture-dry/
I like your video but I would have liked to see how you ended the row and came back up to the front. Is it running in a straight line underneath or is it woven back to the front?
I believe I may have the same chairs and I inherited this problem. Do you know where these chairs were originally purchased? Thanks for any help. Amazing job! The new seat looks awesome!
How can you say in one clip that you saw it in a book, then later say you made it up? If you wrap your rope around something (called a shuttle), it's not as complicated to weave.
