Fascinating to watch! Five good men bringing their knowledge, life experience and common sense together to accomplish a wonderful thing. Thank you for sharing this.
I'm so happy you've repaired Adam and Elizabeth's headstone. Elizabeth has been my hero, protecting the brothers from Union troops during the war. The tripod worked so well, as did you, Robert, and your crew.
Standing tall n straight he is. This is wonderful what all of you have done. I’m sure Mr. Adam Byrd is looking down from Heaven n saying thank you boys for caring. Many thanks to Mr. Dan n to Scott also inhelping Robert make this possible. Oh, you too Walt n Aaron. Not enough words to say thank you. So proud of all of you. ♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍👍👍
Phenomenal work, gentlemen. Ever since I started watching your vlogs, I do not look at grave markers so casually anymore. Thank you for the ongoing education.
You all did a beautiful job and Mr and Mrs Byrd are looking down saying thank you boys for doing this for us. Robert you know how to show your love and respect for the home you now own and respect for the Byrd family your a great man and so are those men that helped you today .
Robert, surrounded by great friends, men with great ideas, and all willing to help in getting the stones level and reset🙂. Thank you for all your ideas, work in helping Robert preserve the headstone, and history to all those at rest there. Thank you to Robert, Dan, Scott, Aaron, and Brian for your work, in resetting the stones, recording and documenting all the work. God bless you all.
Gentlemen! While I have watched the Sidestep Adventures,The old Byrd Farm and any of y'alls' videos. This one I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process and the fine example of teamwork! Respectfully Ray!
This is really interesting and I learned a lot about how monuments are assembled. You guys did a beautiful job on this one. It was really bothering me, when you showed it in the first video, how it was tilting. Keep up the good work! 👍
God bless you. Just wish everyone would take time to care for a grave. There are so many forgotten. I've adopted several around my family's graves. Wish there were more people like you in the world. It would be such a nicer place.
Great volunteer job! 👍🏻Library in CT had a presentation on our Colonial cemetery. The Old Cemetery Board person said they got a quote from a restorer of $10,000 to fix 10 headstones! 😲 He wouldn't do 1 or 2, said it would not be worth it. We are a suburban "working class" town with no relatives resting there. I thought if I hit the lottery (big) maybe, but otherwise I can't see it happening. The town cuts the grass and rakes up the leaves and that's about it. This was pre covid, economic collapse.
None of us are related to the Byrds, we just thought it was the right thing to do. If we waited on the city to do something it would be laying on the ground. So we took it on ourselves and did it, no quotes, very little money (sometimes people just have to do it). When it comes to the local government, they need to go and let's find the "Self Starters" in our communities and vote them into office. Can I get an Amen! (Scott)
That’s terrible! I have been working in my local cemetery raising and repairing headstones for about 3 years now… many times the job only takes about $50 worth of materials to complete… alot of times the time and effort it takes is a lot! But every monument saved is absolutely 100% worth it!!! I have people that call and hire me to do simple cleaning jobs… the money I make from those is what I use to do the repair work…. And like Scott said… if you wait for someone else to do it it will never get done.
Now when that putty dry out, just come back with D2 and wet that headstone with it thurally, to be damp, and leave it over winter when there's more moisture to work, it should be white until spring. Great job! Old cemeteries are my passion, that's how I found your channel, so glad to see after lot of cleanups you also did restoration.
There are so so many beautiful historical gravestones here in UK that have been allowed to fall into disrepair.. How i wish there were people like you doing this over here. Husband and I are both too old for such heavy work now but we would definitely financially support any such groups here in Bonnie Scotland. Well done what a fantastic job you alldid.
Great work! I have used setting compound on marble before but lately have decided I like using hydraulic lime mortar better… you guys did a great job! Keep up the good work!
God bless you guy's!! When I see some of the grave site's you show I want to cry. People who go in and trash a grave site's have no morals. That is a person's loved one grave that you just trashed. Be respectful.
Great job all of you. Preservation of peoples ajd memories of the past is always important as well as preservation of historical markers. You all should do this on this channel often and restore broken markers properly for preservation so families can find their ancestors. These should also be documented in pictures and posted on your channel Mr Robert. P. S. There are some BYRD FAMILY MEMBERS UP HERE IN KENTUCKY
It looks nice now there are some head stones there that need to be cared for. And a little grass seed and The Byrd Garden will be beautiful. My grandmother would say we have to take care of the family garden twice a month. It was a big Memorial Gardens
That was a Pileated Woodpecker! We have them here in Oregon also. Their sound is like something from the tropics! They are beautiful; red, whits and black and one of the largest woodpeckers! K.
Really professional job, it looks as if it were just erected. This reset should last for decades. It was fun seeing everyone together too! Question: Is the putty specifically for masonry? I had to use an epoxy on my grandparent's headstone to set and keep the urns in place. 👍👍❣
Yea! Aaron to the rescue. Great video idea Robert. 4 great guys to watch and learn from. Good work. Oh my, didn't see Roberts other friend Brian from Side Step Adventures handling his camera.
That was wonderful! I know that 3 old ladies could not do this, but with the help of a strong young son or two, we should be able to fix falling and downed stones. Thanks so much!
It looks beautiful! I’m sure your ancestors are great full. And it’s good to know your little set up works so well, but I think you will need a bigger one for a headstone any taller than that.🐝🤗❤️
As far as I can make out its not a relative buried there but rather it's the man who built one of their homes. While we in Europe may not truly consider a house built in this time period historically important remember how young the country of America is. To Americans this is in fact considered to be an old building indeed.
Each and every one of you video vlogs I watch All are great. Thank you very much for giving up your time in documenting each grave and the restoration work you do Cheers 👍 Brendan
Obelisks can be quite problematic! Mortar as opposed to concrete is the better idea. Often the mortar and slag stone under the base is the better idea. Good Job!!
Thank you Guys for doing this. I know it not an easy job to do but You all care enough to do your best. God Bless you Robert, Dan an Scott for taking time from other things to come together ❤️ to do this. ❤️ ❤️
I was there and I didn't get it at the time. That is hilarious! Good one Dan, I get it now. I now he didn't mean it that way, but now that you think about it... (Scott)
What wonderful work you are going. How sad it would be if nobody remember the past and those who walked before us. Everyone should leave a good mark on this world as you are doing. I am very touched by your dedication to history. Thanks!
