FIXING 1986 MERCEDES 420SEL W126 AC JUMPING COMPRESSOR KLIMA RELAY SWITCH

One of the only major issues I had with my 1986 420sel was the AC not blowing cold. After a few hours of research I found that there was a known issue with the compressor relay switch otherwise known as the KLIMA switch. This is located under the hood and by jumping this directly you can test your compressor and also allow it to fill with freon. After getting this to work I decided to order a new switch and will be installing soon. Also my blower motor will work on and off so I will be doing a video on how to repair this as well. KEEP IN MIND THIS IS NOT A PERMANENT SOLUTION BUT JUST TO TEST COMPRESSOR AND FILL. I have already ordered a new switch and will update. Also I will be repairing the blower motor this week. Enjoy.

My '84 W126 still runs R-12. Unfortunately, the compressor just stated leaking mineral oil from the rear seal, so it needs to be replaced. My R-12 A/C blows 20 degrees at the vent. If you convert to R134a, you're at 38-42 degrees, so be prepared for that when you convert if you live in a hot climate.

Love that color I have an 89 420 SEL same problem with AC and I believe I need a new voltage regulator on the alternator my compressor kicks on though

On the 86 and older the button with the circle on it helps the air circulate better. I had the 560 w126, no, not the best AC, the w140 was not an improvement. The w126 also has other little issues, to look at, but even in perfect condition, the AC left much to be desired. The w126 is still a wonderful car, and wouldn't trade mine for anything. The refrigerant is a short term solution, though.

How many cans does it take? Mine got converted to 134a but the label is wiped out.

R12 was 1,3kg, but max. 1000g r134a for this car.

Now I try refresh my AC in 560sel. And I know why not so cold in car. It's because r134 more than 30% less efficient then r12 in r12 systems. I hope soon in my car ac will work again with r134.

USA The country where you can buy cans with R134a in a shop. here in germany you can end in jail if you try buying R134a.

Wow really? You can buy r134 at any place here. Even gas stations and grocery stores carry them.

@@petescarport yes, only workshops are allowed to buy it and do work on AC systems. and they need a bunch of certifications and approvals for doing so. EU has also hard import restrictions on this stuff which made it really expensive and somestimes not available at all. it's all because of "saving climate". in new cars it's forbidden since 2016. the new stuff (r1234yf) is even more expensive and very dangerous in case of a car accident because it transforms to a deadly acid if it comes in contact with oxygen.
