It's pretty amazing all of the lawn equipment people either throw away or give away for free when a lot of the time it's a simple fix or there might not even be anything wrong with it at all like the Echo trimmer you pulled out of the scrap bin, wasn't anything wrong with it and it runs great. Echo is a good brand and that trimmer is in excellent shape. I get lots of lawn equipment given to me that people just want to get rid of like in the spring someone gave me a Stihl FS66 trimmer/brushcutter which has the bicycle bar handle setup, it wasn't getting spark which was an easy fix as it just had a loose connection and it runs great.
I snagged two older Craftsman and one Homelite trimmers and a John Deere leaf blower for $40. One craftsman needs a trigger, the other vibrates. The homelite needed a head and muffler, the JD leaf blower needed a carb rebuild. Sold the leaf blower with backpack for $200. Keeping the trimmers, each with different heads for different purposes. I am currently working on a Toro S-200 snow blower that I got for free from the neighbor.
The thing that destroys most 2-cycle engines is improper fuel-oil mix ratio. The premix is great, and the fuel doesn't seem to evaporate from the mixture and leave just oil in the carb as bad as the stuff you mix yourself. Most people including myself just don't like the aggravation of messing with them. That's why you find them so easily lol
Just the inter day I found a 2014 toro recycler personal pace self propelled lawn mower with out the bag, I rolled it home and put a new plug in and clean the carb and sold it for $200!!! Just goes to show what rich people throw away!!
The Weed Wacker one I would've not bothered because those are made to be disposable. They are sub-$50 trimmers new. I haven't had any luck with those, ever.
You should do more videos like this. People throw away so much great stuff its actually amazing. I've found a Stihl FS-40C Trimmer, a Homelite Gas Blower, a Black and Decker mower, a Troy-Bilt backpack blower and much more. They all work fine too. I also own an ECHO SRM225 trimmer. That thing has never let me down
Congratulations on your first failure. I despise those small Walbro-type carbs. Once they stuff up they are nearly impossible to clean. Good job on the Echo though. I have a minor request: Try to minimize swinging your camera around when you aren't using a tripod. It gives us older folks a headache, lol. Thanks.
Believe it or not, I have that same weed eater brand weed eater and I just fired it up last week for its 20th mowing season, it’s like the weed eater that won’t die only thing I’ve done to it it put new fuel lines in it
I chuckled when you thought something might be wrong with the Echo trimmer head. Nope, nothing missing; you just push in pre-cut lengths of line. When they break or get too short, you use a needle nose to pull them through from the middle. Of course you have to make certain to push the cut line far enough to begin with.
Nice find. The Echo is definitely a better machine. I had a similar Weed Eater someone gave me years back, but I think mine had 2 strings. I think Weedeater was made by the same company that made a lot of the cheaper Craftsman stuff, I think Poulan. The carburetors are pretty cheap for most mall engines, you can get Chinese knockoffs on Amazon or ebay that work good.
My uncle just gave me an echo similar to that one, I was looking up carb clean video, may just run some fuel through, I think the previous owner said it might of got water in the gas.
You must use a richer oil mixture (25:1) in the older Weed Eaters. The reason it seized is improper lubrication in the cylinder. It actually ran until it quit as the fuel to oil mixture appeared incorrect.
25:1 is too oil heavy. 32:1 is the proper mix in those older machines if you’re using todays 2 cycle synthetic blend or even 40:1 is good enough. Back in the day you used regular engine oil to mix with the gas which is why it was heavier ratio. There wasn’t oils specifically designed for 2 strokes
the Echo sounds like it has a clogged spark aresstor screen in the muffler and as for the weed eater try putting a thick rich mixture and let it to soak and then carefully pull on the cord and another option you could try is seeing if the pull cord got caught on the flywheel from the pulley rotor
I like the echo alot and I thought you would get the weed eater running but good job doing your best and I have another white outdoor riding mower for sale
Not a cheap Echo. They sell it the way you had it for people who prefer that method (me) and they offer an optional spool head. I bought the head at a discount and have never even opened it.
Na it siezed because some moron either tuned it too lean or just put straight gas in it. 50:1 wouldn’t make a 2 stroke swell up due to the fact because it’s still got oil in the gas
The Tip where I come from Downunder you are not allowed to salvage stuff. Probably to do with OH&S stuff??. one time though someone was throwing out a mower and gave it to me, at that time it was still HIS property. all that was wrong was the recoil starter was broken and it wasnt even 2 years old.
That Echo looks like the nearly $200 (GT225 $191, May 2012) (21 CC) unit, I've got out in my shed. No, cut off strips of line about 10" long, poke them thru the holes in the round head, the jaws in the small holes sometimes (get rusty) need to be oiled to work properly to grab the line, use an ice pick to gently poke them open to work again. Beetle supervising? That Echo is probably worth to someone who knows prices, $100, just sayin. Nice score. You win some, some you lose.
First, glad you got one going Weedeater (Poulan) which is under AYP, which also makes husqvarna MTD makes Troybilt, some craftsman, Bolens , Remington, Murray, yardman, yard machine, hyper tough and many others I can say yes I have a Murray string m2510 trimmer so far so good 12 months later It’s been working great . I always use ethanol free gas with synthetic 2. Cycle oil at. 40:1 or 50:1 I did trash pick a Weedeater similar to that one recently and got it going with fuel lines , carb cleaning and carb adjustment to high and low jets screws. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S1RlmRvr1nc.html
Well DUH! The Echo one is better because it's a higher end product! Thats like saying an iphone 13 is better then a Stratus C5 "Elite". Like, no shit sherlock!
